Guestbook comments from the owner

Our mountain weekend was just perfect. We really enjoyed your lovely home and it was laid out just great for our family. It was our grand daughter's first Easter and we were able to get some great photos in the rocking chair downstairs. We enjoyed the hikes to the creek, the views, the swing – just everything. Thanks so much.

Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

The ultimate in vacations. Since my family is scattered from California to Pennsylvania to Florida, this was a perfect geographical choice.

My main concern was that my grandchildren, age nine and eleven would be "bored!" They were most impressed from the hot tub to the Pacman game and so much more.

There is so much to do in the area, Biltmore Estate which we rode bicycles along the farm trails and enjoyed very much. We went to the Piscah National Forest and tried rock climbing as well as white water rafting within driving distance for a unique days outing.

The shops in Black Moutain were very charming as well as the southern charm of merchants. I could have spent a whole day perusing the book collection at Jean & Carl Franklin's Cherry Street bookstore. We found a quaint little vegetable stand on the way to Ashville and explored the creek and truly huge rocks behind the vegie stand. Some of our best photos came from there. The kids had to be threatened with bodily injury to tear themselves away (not really). It was refreshing to observe children enjoying God's landscape and interacting with humans instead of an electronic gadget.

We gathered to celebrate my youngest child's licensure to practice psychology in the state of California. What we came away with was a renewal of spirit and the knowledge of this fact. If more families vacationed in this heaven on earth, my daughter might not be so busy in her practice.

Blessings to you for sharing such a lovely piece of this earth with me and mine.Ranging in age from 58 to 9 y/o.

Wonderful relaxing visit to Black Mountain

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful and relaxing time at High Rock Haven over our spring break. The location is perfectly centrally located so we could hit all the things we wanted to do (Chimney Rock/Hickory Nut Falls, Biltmore House, Asheville, Dupont State Park, Hendersonville main street). We traveled with our 3 children who were very happy with the creek on the grounds, the games in the basement and the hot tub. Normally we stay in higher-end appointed homes, but this home had it all.

Truly unique home

  • 3 of 5

Wonderful location to explore Asheville and the Blue RIdge Parkway. Can see this being a better get away at other times of the year. We actually left a day early due to winter storm and concerns about getting from the house to the main highway. Few things to be aware of: If you plan to eat in you might want to pack serving bowls and pyrex to cook in. There were over a dozen skillets but other areas were lacking. Second, upon arrival read the exit instructions. Since a cleaning fee was included in our charge we did not imagine that we would be expected to wash, dry, and return to original location all towels, wash all dishes and empty the dishwasher, etc. These tasks are not difficult, just time consuming so begin your exit chores the day before if you plan an early departure. The house was beautifully decorated with a massive Christmas tree. This however created some difficulty getting around furniture. In the process one of our residents tripped on a lamp chord causing it to fall from the table. A glass decorative piece approximately 3X5" was broken. For that we were charged $60.

Owner's Response: Highrock Haven is in the mountains and during the winter months, especially in January, you will experience winter weather at times which is part of the appeal of this home at 3,300 feet in elevation. The home has a whole house generator that runs the entire home and turns on automatically if real power is lost. This is a rare feature in most vacation homes...The kitchen is supplied with plenty of serving bowls and and pots and pans, utensils, to cook from and are stored in the many kitchen cabinets. Most of them are brand new.....Yes, we do ask our guests to wash and dry the towels ( if they have time ) as this is typical in many vacation rental homes and has never been a problem in over 10 years of renting......Also, we do decorate the home for Christmas for a month ( as this is unexpected in the business ) and we do ask our guests to help keep the live Christmas tree watered during their stay. Too large of a Christmas tree has never been a problem for the high vaulted ceilings or the furniture! We also know accidents do happen occasionally, and the refundable damage security deposit is there for a reason, to cover any expensive items that are broken such as the table lamp, which could not be fixed and had to be replaced....This was probably the only reason that the home received its first 3 star reviewing in10 years!

Breathtaking!

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautifully decorated with the Christmas lights and tree. Lots of space for everyone. The game room was the hit. We were close to all the shopping and the Biltmore Estate. The hiking trails were nice. To top the vacation off we had a few flurries. It was the best vacation that my family has had!!

Best rental experience EVER!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancée and I saved time and money for years to have the perfect vacation, and THIS WAS IT!!! We went at peak foliage season and every morning was more beautiful than the first! The home was immaculate, the beds are beyond this world, and Mike was extremely helpful. We are planning to return next year and perhaps move to the area. Black Mountain is a very special and friendly town. Every appliance is up to date, and the fireplace made it even more cozy and warm. I have already asked who will join us next year! There is so much room! I have used homeaway 3 times before from France to Hawaii, and this was the best home with the most accurate descriptions of them all! If you don't go, you are missing out on something very special! Thank you, Mike Roseman, again!

We had an amazing trip to Asheville and this property as a large part of that reason! It was cozy, warm and the views were beyond incredible. The walking trails around the cabins were an added bonus!
