Ryan or Barbara purchased this house in 2004
While on a weekend ski trip over President’s Day 2004, we fell in love with Massanutten Resort and purchased our first second home, The Retreat at Massanutten. We have now vacationed at Massanutten for more than ten years and used the resort for many years to get away from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, for winter skiing and summer outdoor fun. We now live in Idaho but return often to The Retreat and Massanutten as one of our favorite vacation destinations. No other resort near Washington, DC offers as wide a variety of activities as Massanutten, and at such a great value for the family to get away together. Since 2004, we have added three additional Massanutten homes to our inventory and rented to more than 700 families. We hope you will enjoy The Retreat at Massanutten as much as our family and our guests have.
During the summer, we purchase the 'pool pass' that allows our guests to use the private outdoor pool. This is much more private and avoids the hustle and bustle of the crowded indoor pools.
We had a wonderful stay at your Masanutten/Shennandoah property. All of us enjoyed the couple nights. We will come back again.
We really enjoyed staying at the Retreat for a weekend in October. 12 adults had plenty of room to spread out. Guys loved the game room. Nicely stocked kitchen and very clean overall. Owner was very helpful in suggesting local restaurants/sites as well and very responsive in answering any questions. A little wear and tear around the edges, but overall great place and would stay here again.
I along with 17 other young women stayed at this rental for a retreat. This rental was so perfect for the occasion. There is SO much space & it's easy to be very comfortable in there. One of the great things at the rental was the HUGE TV in the living room. It was perfect for watching group films. There was just enough sitting space for everyone. In addition, the kitchen is fully stocked. Coming in, we weren't sure what the kitchen would have so we had brought our own pots/pans/spoons/griddles... We actually did not even need to bring all of that. The kitchen had all the appliances needed. Departure was easy- just follow the contract and do a few things like start a load of laundry and take the garbage out. The on site manager was great. We needed something fixed and he came right over, minded his business, & fixed what we needed. I would definitely recommend this property to future vacationers.
We stayed in the home this past weekend and had a wonderful time. We love October in the Shenandoah Valley and this weekend was particularly good weather and a great time to be in the mountains. The home itself is plenty large and had more than enough room for our entire family. The home is also well stocked with lots of little things, like spices in the kitchen and the like. That was nice to be able to rely on some of the items that were already in the home, even though we did bring plenty of our own items for cooking. And the owner stopped by to check on our rental. He was great to work with. We had no problems and a great weekend. Can't ask for more.
We had 4 families here this weekend. The house has a good amount space, large kitchen and dining area. However, it was dirty and just generally in need of updates. The floors were filthy, many light bulbs out or missing, the carpets in desperate need of cleaning (or replacing) and I can't tell you how many spider webs and bugs we cleaned up in the lower level. We did call Friday evening and a nice woman came out at 11 on Saturday to sweep the floors and did what she could. Massnutten in general is a great place to visit and we've stayed in a number of other very nice houses. This one just needs a good dose of attention. We had a good time with a great group of friends, but will definitely look elsewhere when planning our next trip!
Great house with plenty of activities to keep you busy, both at the resort and the home. Overlooks the ski slopes so should be a great home during ski season (maybe we will get a chance to come back), towels and linens provided, fully equipped kitchen, media options are great with two large screen TVs, great atmosphere. Owner was accommodating and manager was available onsite to help with checkin and the like. Good trip with no surprises.
We have stayed at other homes at Massanutten and enjoyed this home and vacation better than any other. It had plenty of room and was kept up well. The manager was great to work with, even on what we know was a busy holiday weekend for rentals. The HDTV large screen TVs, both upstairs and downstairs provided plenty of entertainment for the entire family in the evenings. It was nice to be able to have the adults upstairs and even be able to shut the door to the kids downstairs, but be able to check on them easily. The kids probably enjoyed that just as much. We all had a great time. The home is located within easy access to all of the outdoor activities at the resort and in the Shenandoah Valley as well. This home is right in the heart of it all and we would definitely look to return again.
