Overview

Seal Cove House Rental Photos and Description

Fully equipped 3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths, Sleeps 6, Washer & Dryer

This fully furnished home is in a peaceful field and forest setting and is charming, private, and quiet. Located amidst Acadia National Park, there are endless recreational possibilities. The quiet side of Mount Desert Island is a nature lover's paradise. A five minute walk puts you on some of the park's roads and trails, giving you access to nearby mountains and three different ponds. An ocean boat launch is only 2 miles away. Bass Harbor Lighthouse, (one of the most photographed in Maine), seafood restaurants, Bar Harbor, and the Swan's Island ferry are just a short drive. After a full day of activity, you can return for a relaxing whirlpool bath, enjoy a movie, or have a glass of wine on the deck. Fully equipped with everything you need to relax in comfort. It is a common sight to see deer, fox, and other wildlife right from the living room window or back deck while enjoying your morning coffee.

Our Guestbook: We will be grateful for our guests that take the time and trouble to make an entry in our guest book on line. Here is the really fun part though! We plan to keep a guest book on the kitchen table. I came up with the idea of having everyone add a recipe along with their comment. Since they will have been written from memory, these recipes will be family treasures that have been used a lot! It is wonderful idea. You will be able to try things from different cultures, (Chinese tea eggs for example). I hope it will make your vacation even more memorable. I am excited about our new guest book and hope it fills up quickly! Come join in the fun.

hidden treasure

My wife and I do a lot of traveling and I will have to say that this was a great find on my part. This place was clean, spacious, quiet and in an absolute gorgeous area! We did a lot of hiking, some kayaking, relaxing, shopping and site seeing. Maine and Acadia are beautiful. Consider renting this place. Our hosts Dawn and Larry were great!

Great place, great adventure and great hospitality

  • 5 of 5
Seal Cove is an wonderful gateway to Mount Desert Island and this vacation home is ground zero! The home is spacious, open, modern, comfortable, in fact, we are returning for a second time. There is privacy, a field of flowers in the back, a vase of flowers on the table greeted us and because the owners called us we knew they were nearby and accessible if we had any questions or needs. We can not wait to return for more hiking, biking, kayaking and relaxation. There is just so much opportunity on Acadia to enjoy nature at it's best. Than having a great place to stay, to settle into, to return to at the end of the days adventures is priceless. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place and we look forward to our return this summer. Did I mention the blueberrys this area has in abundance?

July 2011 vacation was perfect!

  • 5 of 5
The house was everything the ad said it would be and more. The place was spotless and better than the pictures showed. The kitchen was well equiped, the beds comfy and the location perfect for us. We enjoyed being on the quiet side of the island, close to the lakes for canoeing and kayaking. One of our favorite places is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, just down the road from the house. (The gas station on the corner, where you turn right to get to the lighthouse, has fabulous fresh baked cinnamon rolls.) It only took about 15 minutes to get to Bar Harbor from the house. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a quiet "home" base in which to rest up in between activities. Here is a list of things that we did:
-Visited the Bas Harbor Lighthouse - climbed the rocks in front of it (use the stairs that descend on the left side of the parking lot, as you are looking at the light.) We painted the lighthouse while sitting on the rocks there one day as well.
-Walked the Ship Harbor trail and climbed the rocky shore there too.
-Rented a canoe, had a picnic and swam from the rocky shores at Long Pond.
-Hiked to the top of Beech Mountain and picnicked in the shade of the fire tower. Watching the birds fly below you over the water is a site not to be missed!
-Bicycled the carraige road around Eagle Lake, including a picnic.
-Fire works at Bar Harbor. The sea mist came in mixed with the smoke and obscured the view. If we had it to do again, we would go to the top of Cadillac Mountain to view the fireworks.
-Park road loop. We got a late start at around 6:00 so we didn't have to pay. The museum was closed though. We saw Thunderhole and my crazy 10 year old grandson swam at the beach! BURRRRRR
-Spent time taking in the view at the summit of Cadillac Mountain. There is not another place on earth like it. So beautiful.
-Lobster dinners at Thurston's, Lunt'z and Ables (watch out for the pricey $12.00) drink specials at Ables!. All good places to eat. Lunt's being 1/2 the price, but the scenery at Thurston's and Able's is unbeatable!
-Shopping at Bar Harbor, For a good change from seafood, eat at the Side Street Cafe in Bar Harbor.
-Swimming at Echo Lake beach.

We had a perfect vacation and the "Field and Forest" house was a perfect rental home.

What a great place to call home, while visiting Mt Desert Island. Close to everything and very private and cozy. Good place to come home to after spending the day sight seeing.

Perfect for a celebration

  • 5 of 5
I wanted to celebrate my and my friend's 65th birthday in grand style. And both of us knew we wanted to see everything on Acadia Island and search for lighthouses in the area.

Four very old friends came together for a week. Two from the West Coast and two from Nashville. We all live in cities.

This vacation rental was perfect. The house is in a quiet location but close to everything. We all preferred the serenity of the property and the peaceful deck and view.

Everything we needed was stocked and the house was exceptionally clean and organized.

Larry and Dawn left a book with suggestions of places to see.

One recommendation was Campobello in New Brunswick. It's 97 miles from the house and well worth the drive. FDR spent many summers there and it is easy to see why he loved it.
Lubec is the eastermost area of Maine and quite charming.

We all have very fond memories and hundreds of photos from our trip to Acadia.

Come share a piece of Mount Desert Island. Acadia National Park is always one of the most visited parks in the country. The views are nothing short of spectacular. You will find tall pines seemingly growing out of rocks, mountains with granite cliffs, hiking trails, ponds, lakes and salt-water beaches, and ocean waves crashing in fantastic displays on our rock-bound coast. Lighthouses? You can see as many as five from Cadillac Mountain.

Take in historic Bar Harbor. You can eat a pizza while watching a movie or listen to live music in the village square. There are bike rentals, sightseeing boats, whale-watching cruises, kayaking and rock climbing excursions just to mention a few of the adventures awaiting you. Lobster pounds and seafood restaurants are everywhere just in case you are interested. Not interested? How about gliding in a plane with no engine or seeing a lumberjack show with Tina from 'Survivor', or looking through the old Chicken Barn full of antiques or....

Other Activities: golf, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoing, boat rentals, berry picking
