Cozy, beautifully furnished, converted 18th Century barn, surrounded by one of the most beautiful gardens in the Berkshires. The 20x30 foot great room with cathedral ceiling opens into a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, lots of cupboards and plenty of counter space. The house is situated on 16 acres of fields and woods, abutting East Mountain State Forest.

The Berkshires, in addition to being beautiful, have the greatest concentration of music, theatre, dance and other cultural events in the United States. And Great Barrington is the center of it all. Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Shakespeare and Company are all less than 1/2 hour away, and there are restaurants, antique emporiums and lakes to swim and fish in everywhere. Winters are also special, with lots of ski slopes, and if it's too cold, the Community Center has weight rooms, a pool and cultural activities for children and adults.

We arrived from England and found Maya's Garden House cold, dirty, run-down and in need of much repair. After one uncomfortable night we left and found another property. I think the owner agreed with us when we told him we were leaving and it seemed that he and his wife had not even thought of checking things before our visit. I note that the property is unavailable until late March 2010 and hope that in that time the owner will completely refurbish the house. We lost our deposit and had to find somewhere else the next day which was not a good start to our holiday.
