'Casetta di Santi' (Italian for 'little home of the saints') is a 1926 beach bungalow in lovely South Redondo Beach in Southern California, five short blocks from the ocean. Walking directly west from the property, you arrive at the coastal area that encompasses the Redondo Pier (a tourist destination) and a small yacht harbor - King Harbor. This area is flanked by beautiful beaches to the north and south. From the house, you are walking distance to Starbucks, Whole Foods market, Rite Aid, McDonalds and numerous excellent restaurants, and cafes. The property is located in a quiet, friendly neighborhood close enough to drive within an hour to all the LA tourist destinations like Disneyland and Universal Studios, but far enough away to make you feel that you're in another world. Around the corner from the house is a small park with play equipment for children.
Although we have retained its wonderful cottage character and warmth, the Casetta has recently been remodeled to create an open kitchen with views to the beautiful backyard from the living room. New hardwood floors have been added throughout. French doors open out from the kitchen to the first patio which provides outdoor dining for eight people. The kitchen area includes a breakfast table for four, as well as a bar for two. The house is furnished thoughtfully with guests in mind. One of the cottage's two bathrooms can be accessed from a back door that opens onto the garden, making for an easy beach wash-off. The garden is one of the property's nicest features, arranged around three separate patios, each lined with plants and trees that bloom year-round
'Casetta di Santi' gets its name from the statues of Saints Francis, Anthony and Mary, all of which were gifts to the owner over a 20 year period, and are nestled in the leafy grottoes of the garden. These saints have faithfully showered continuous blessings on all those who dwell in the Casetta for a generation, a decade, or even a few days.

'Casetta di Santi will stay in my memory forever. The beds were very comfy - easy to get to sleep after a long day at Disneyland.' -guests from New Zealand
'Thanks for all your attention to detail. Felt as if we were really at our home away from home. Weather was so pleasant (warm for us since it's much colder in Connecticut.' - guests from Connecticut
'Twelve days that went too fast - wished we could stay another week. The house is beautiful, beds are wonderful. The beach in Redondo was the best. Friendly neighborhood. The children loved it here and want to come back.' - guests from Sweden
My husband and I have lived in the South bay since the late 1960's. We converted the cottage to a vacation rental in 2008 when we moved to another house on our beautiful and historic El Redondo Street. We wanted a place where our children and grandchildren could stay comfortably when they visit from out-of-state. When the family is not using the cottage it's available for our VRBO guests. Since 2008, we've rented the cottage to hundreds of guests, many of whom have become annual visitors. We take pride in preparing the property personally for each new guest. We want people to be comfortable in their home-away-from-home and know that we are available to respond to their needs during their visit. We have really enjoyed meeting and serving wonderful people from all over the world.
Olivia LaBouff purchased this cottage in 1975
I grew up in Los Angeles and always wanted to live in Redondo Beach. I bought the property in the 1970's and have been in love with it ever since. It's cozy. It's perched on a high lot that offers a tree-top view from the living room. It has a tiered backyard that looks and feels like a magical garden where something is always blooming. Humming birds and butterflies are seen and heard in the garden every day. We can walk to the beach or drive to the LA sights. We especially enjoy the lifestyle of the beach cities and the luxury of always having access to sunset over the Pacific.
We're 20 minutes from LAX, walking distance to Redondo Beach ocean front and King Harbor. We have a garden with 3 patios that can comfortably support a large gathering to celebrate a big birthday, a graduation or a wedding.
We stayed almost six weeks at Cassetti di Santi and Olivia and Dave did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The house is an old typical California beach house that has been renovated to modern times. When you walk in the door, you'll feel at home and when you check out the spacious backyard you'll know it. You're five minutes from the lovely beach trail that you can walk or bike for miles. The house was well equipped and Olivia updated some of the pots and pans to my wife's culinary requirements. There is a wide variety of places to eat, drink and people watch in Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, from fine dining to neighborhood bistros and beach bars. The house fit our expectations for low-key 'local' feel and we'd love to come back again anytime!
My wife and two young children stayed at this beautiful cottage for 5 days, and the instant we walked in the door could do nothing but relax. Despite a long flight from New Zealand we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Olivia met us at the cottage.....and what an absolutely lovely lady. She made us all feel so welcome, even with our two year old running around the place!
Her beautiful home had everything we could have hoped for to make our stay as relaxing as possible. The garden was our favourite location though. Lazing on the sun loungers watching the squirrels and hummingbirds was simply amazing. Add to that the close proximity to Redondo's beach and pier as well as the children's playground around the corner, and we can only describe this setting and location as perfect.
Thank you Olivia for making our stay so memorable. We will be back!

My son, daughter & husband, their one year old child, & myself spent a week at this cottage. When we walked in the front door it seemed all we had to do was relax and enjoy our vacation. The kitchen was fully equipped making cooking a breeze. This cozy cottage was clean & comfortable with enough space for all of us. We started our morning drinking coffee with breakfast in the beautiful back yard. Then using the gas grill we made some fabulous suppers with the fresh fish purchased at the Redondo Pier. The evenings were perfect with the outside heater. The neighborhood was very nice and had a great park only one block away. The people we were visiting lived close by so they were able to check out this home for us. They only had nice things to say about Olivia and the cottage. We can't wait to come back and stay here, we won't even look anywhere else! Rae, Andy, Carmen, Luke, & RaeLynn from Iowa:)
We just returned from a wonderful week at Olivia's cottage. Spent a week there with husband, two sisters and brother-in law while in town for my stepdaughter's wedding. Though the week was filled with many activities it was so nice to come home to the cottage, relax and unwind. The hummingbirds in the beautiful terraced back gardens greeted us each morning. The house was perfect for the 5 of us with everything we needed. Close to the beach, the wedding at Pt. Vincente, LA and great fish at Captain Kidds down at the pier. Though the house had been remodeled it still retains the charm of a beach cottage. Only issue we had was the driveway which was a little treacherous to back out of it. By the end of the week we did master it. Hope to have the chance to stay there again as it was delightful and Olivia was a great host.
This was our third year of staying at Olivia and Dave's oasis in Redondo Beach, and we have booked for next year already. We now live in Arizona, and during the hot summer months, we really look forward to our time at the beach, and sleeping with the windows open! We enjoy long walks by the beach, and boogie boarding.
The house is fully equipped, and we bring fewer things each year. Despite the great local restaurants, we find we most enjoy having happy hour and dinner in the garden.
Looking forward to our next visit!
We brought our two grandkids (ages 10 and 14) for a 10 day "retreat" in Southern California. This wonderful house accommodated beautifully and we had a blast. The description is very accurate. Boy is it clean and neat and the back yard is an oasis all by itself!
You can enjoy access to LA sights and activities without the stress of being in an urban setting. Here you're 'at the beach' and life is more laid back. People gather along the Esplanade just to watch the sun set over the Pacific.
