Hi Maria,

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you so much! You have a beautiful place, and the grounds are incredibly peaceful. My family truly enjoyed being together over the long holiday weekend, and my husband and I both said we hope to be back soon and hope to make your place a regular get-a-way!

Thank you again for your wonderful accomodations!

MID-WEEK FAMILY GET AWAY

  • 3 of 5
My husband and I enjoyed relaxing for 3 days; it was a very much needed break from our work schedules. Our 3 pitbulls THOROUGHLY enjoyed the short excursion from home and the enclosed porch. Surprisingly, the bellowing elk in the yard at 530-6a didn't bother them one bit!

We'll definitely plan more trips with our 3 dogs and continue to use the BringFido.com website to do so.

REST AND RELAXATION

  • 5 of 5
We have nothing but positive things to say about Maria and her cabin. She was a delight to work with--prompt and clear. The cabin has all the amenities you could need and is very cozy and invites you to stay longer. It was such a nice retreat from the frantic pace and heat in Phoenix. So close to the quaint town of Pine--you can walk to get your fill of fudge and ice cream, yet far enough away to know you are in the mountains. This was actually a vacation for our dogs (!) and they loved the enclosed wrap around deck--it allowed them to be outside yet safe. So many trails and paths to walk along as well as a short drive to another quaint town (Strawberry) and if all else fails, you are only 15 miles from the booming metropolis of Payson. We look forward to visiting again and can strongly recommend renting to all who review this site.

NYE STAY IN PINE, AZ - THE GOOD, BAD, & UGLY...

NYE Stay in Pine, AZ - the good, bad, & ugly...
  • 2 of 5
As a physician & pharmacist, I pride myself on my objectivity, so hopefully you will find this review to be trustworthy. The backstory - 5 friends & I (a kindergarten teacher, a highschool PE teacher, a banker, a marketing/tourism manager, a film maker, & a doctor) rented this cabin to celebrate NYE away from the hustle & bustle of Phoenix.

Here is what I immediately was disappointed by: (1) There was white dog hair EVERYWHERE upon check-in; I understand that dogs shed - we ourselves had a Golden in our party, but what I can't understand for the life of me is how a rental owner would rent out a property without 1st looking over the place to make sure it looked presentable. Huge minus having to clean up after a previous tenant's (or the owner's) dog. (2) The water control handle on the only bathtub/shower was in disrepair & incredibly fragile - it fell off & needed to be replaced numerous times during our 2-day stay. (3) The rental description advertised a pantry full of sundries, but there was only one roll of paper towels for 6 people who were preparing 3 meals a day for 2.5 days. (4) The blinds covering the kitchen window were cracked & @ one point in our stay, collapsed on someone as we were cleaning up breakfast that morning. Not cool.

Now all of these things combined were really not a problem @ all - I've travelled all over the world & can find comfort nearly anywhere. The biggest issue is that we had to sweep most of the house to remove the white dog hair - which came up in clumps.

The rest of the stay was enjoyable - the outdoor patio was particularly charming & comfortable - there was plenty of wood for the indoor & outdoor fireplaces, both of which worked wonderfully. The beds were comfortable & the living areas were sufficient for entertaining a group of 6 people.

The REAL problem occurred after we left. In a telephone conversation with the owner regarding the reimbursement of our rental deposit, she SCREAMED @ one of my friends for 15 minutes regarding the absolutely horrible nature in which we treated her place - she rambled, inaccurately, about how haphazardly we replaced all the kitchen utensils, how we left toilet paper all over the house (huh?), how we intentionally broke her quarter-century-old blinds, & how we had a fraternity-style party @ her place, given how many beer & wine bottles she found in the trash outside. That's right, folks - SHE WENT THROUGH OUR TRASH.

My advice? Rent with caution & tread lightly!

Owner's Response: My husband and I have been renting our second home as a member of the Home Away website since 2007. We both have professional backgrounds in the hospitality industry, my husband an Executive Chef for a top resort and I have worked all aspects of golf resorts and restaurants. We welcome all comments and feedback to create a more enjoyable stay for our guest and to continue to improve on every level. We have never received a negative review ever, in the five years of doing business with Home Away. As shown in the pics, the entire kitchen was newly remodled in Sept 2012 from the travertine flooring, top of the line stainless appliances down to the brand new "century old blinds". We utilize this property as our second home throughout each month when working in the Payson area, and continually keep up on maintainace projects, cleanliness, and upgrades. My husband or I always contact the guest upon arrival to make sure all is comfortable and all of their needs are being met and if any problem should arise to contact us immediatly as stated in the rental contract so it may be addressed. This was also the case for the registered guest over The New Year Holiday. They informed me that they were happy with the property and their needs were being met. We were never once contacted in regards to anything being in disrepair during their stay. An inspection of the property was performed and as stated in the contract the criteria for a refundable deposit was not met. All guest signed the visitors book with the following; " thank you for allowing us to stay in your amazing cabin! We had a blast and can't wait to come back. This cozy place made our New Year's Eve we wish you well."

SUPER COZY!

  • 5 of 5
I surprised my boyfriend with this cabin for his Birthday. We fell in love with Maria's Place! We brought our dog and started the first night grilling some steak. And getting the fireplace going. Our friends came up shortly after.

The next morning we cooked a big breakfast and got ready for the day. We did a little bit of walking around and had a nice little snowball fight on the property. There is an area where you can go sledding as well. We drove up near Fossil Creek and looked at the scenery and did some more snowball fighting - haha! The scenery was beautiful no matter which part of town you were in.

Later that evening, we went to the Pub and Brewery which is only 2 mins away. They had some pretty good food and some good beer as well! The staff was super friendly and very accommodating. After dinner, we went back to the cabin and relaxed by the patio fireplace. We had our laptop on and watched a scary movie. The ambiance was perfect for just that!

The last morning, my boyfriend and I sneaked away for a early breakfast date in Payson. We went to Beeline Cafe and the staff was also extremely nice! They made you feel at home! The food was also very good.

We stayed until it was time to check out. We were all very bummed that the trip couldn't have been longer. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we most definitely want to come back as soon as possible. This was the perfect getaway from the city.

Thank you Maria!!!

RENEWAL, REVITALIZED, RELAXED

  • 5 of 5
This trip was on my bucket list. I could not know that Maria's Place
would make all the difference. Being alone, I found there was much
to do with no worries. Hiking, Tonto National Bridge, Strawberry Historic school house, Yoga & Shops within walking distance. Sedona, Jerome, Conville wineries within 45 to 1hr drive and the scenery. WOW!! Waking up to sun, humming bird, cloud watching, coffee on the outside patio, wine in the evenings with fireplace. Maria & Ezra are perfect landlords, helpful, pleasant.
I was there in August so I could attend the local rodeo, so much fun.
Pay attention if you are driving up from the Valley. I think mile 105
caught my eye the most, every mile was beautiful. You will want to
go back over and over.

MARIA'S PLACE WAS A WONDERFUL VACATION HOME!

Maria's Place was a wonderful vacation home!
  • 5 of 5
My husband & I were at Maria's Place for 4 nights this Sept 2010 & what a wonderful place to stay. The home is much larger than shown on her web pics & she made sure everything was so perfect for our stay. Extremely comfortable, clean & situated in a great area for hiking, sightseeing & just relaxing on the fantastic deck complete with a fireplace, which we did use at night.
