This farm has been in my family since it was built in 1812. My mother was born here as well as her father and grandfather. It was always a full working farm which included dairy farming as well as cornfields, etc. Completely restored and renovated to include the old and the new.
Very private setting, yet close to beaches, shopping, ferries, airport and trains
This is a beautiful home. And it is a home, not a rental property, and it makes a world of difference. You feel as if you're visiting your own family or dear friends, it's comfortable and welcoming. The decor of the house is wonderful, it's a classic old farmhouse with rustic wooden doors but with all the conveniences of a modern home. Wireless internet, cable, wonderfully outfitted kitchen, plenty of nooks to sit and read in or have a nap, VERY comfortable beds, bright, airy....this home is perfect for large families or a group of friends.
The house is set up so there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, then 2 of the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house on the second floor, and each has a bathroom. The other 2 bedrooms are in between, and totally convenient to the bathrooms, so it's a wonderful set up.
The surrounding property is glorious, open fields, beautiful trees, stone walls....there's a field behind the property that my daughter loved to ride her bike around. The outdoor shower was heavenly, we are already planning our own at home we loved it so much! It's also perfect for returning home from the beach.
The house is also very close to so many places, and easy car rides to Wickford center, grocery stores, beaches, etc. You can go on some wonderful walks as well, and we definitely recommend walking down to the Gilbert Stuart museum, the grounds are lovely, and for those interested in colonial era farms/homes/furniture, it's a lot of fun to take the tour.
This is a property for people who want to feel as if they are at home, and will treat it that way. The owners are lovely, and we are extremely grateful to them for opening up their home to us. We found we didn't want to leave the house much, and spent a lot of time there relaxing, catching up with our extended family, and eating! We will come back another time, and already miss "our" home away from home. Thank you Jane and family, you were so welcoming and gracious. Thank you so much!
We have rented several houses for vacation trips before, but this unique home is by far, the best one yet! It is so beautifully maintained and blends historic charm with updated architecture and modern conveniences. The home is filled with family photos and colonial antiques, and the feeling of family bonds and generational love is everywhere. It was the perfect setting to celebrate our mother's 84th birthday. The kitchen is fantastic for family meals and entertaining. The home is roomy, and the grounds are absolutely spectacular. We enjoyed grilling on the patio just about every night and playing outside in the yard. The outdoor shower was a highlight!
The house is extremely convenient to many of Rhode Island's best destinations -- Wickford, the beaches, Jamestown and Newport. It's tucked away down a beautiful country road so you're away from crowds and traffic. It's the perfect vacation spot. We plan to return for many years to come!
We had a great week, and the house is in the perfect location to visit Newport, Jamestown, Wickford, and Narragansett.
The home and grounds were beautifully decorated and maintained. The house came with everything you need, the kitchen came better equipped then any house we ever rented and the house had toys for the kids to play with which was a nice surprise.
The owner met us on arrival and showed us around and made sure we had everything we needed during the week and gave us good advice and places to visit. A GREAT place to relax and super home base for exploring the area.
In August, my family stayed at Jane and Tom’s farmhouse, and we were more than happy with the property and with Jane and Tom’s hospitality. Right after arriving, they showed us around, letting us know about every reasonable detail concerning the house and neighborhood, and thereafter were always quickly accessible by phone if we had any questions. This house is beautiful. The pictures on the website are true to life. It is on a forested road that provided for pleasant morning runs, and would also be great for bicycling. From the backyard, you can see only one other house in the distance. Very private. There are six bedrooms in the house, a few TVs, a grill on the back porch, a moveable outdoor wood-burning fireplace, an outdoor shower to use when you return from the beach, and even a rope tree swing! There’s ample space on the back porch for eating and hanging out. The kitchen opens out to the great room, so the space is perfect for entertaining. Two of the bedrooms are on the first floor, and the remaining ones are on the second.
Jane and Tom are very much pet-friendly, which we really appreciated, as we have two dogs that love to vacation with the family. And while they’re pet-friendly, the house is impeccably clean; they do a great job with the upkeep.
The location of the house is good. There are multiple farms, supermarkets, and a Wal-Mart in very close proximity. Inside Scoop has wonderful ice cream and we ate dessert there almost every night. Newport is less than 25 minutes away, and has some good beaches with mild-medium surf. We went to “Second Beach,” which is in Middletown, just past Newport. Scarborough Beach is also very popular, and it’s large and clean. That’s in Narragansett, less than 30 minutes away. The mansion tours in Newport are amazing, especially the Breakers, which was a summer home for the Vanderbilts. I highly recommend you spend a day in Newport while you’re there.
Overall, I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for New England charm and comfort and a good time. This house feels like home. That’s important. When I’m on vacation, I like to feel like the house I’m staying in is my house. This place perfectly embodies that spirit.
The property was absolutely beautiful!! The pictures don't do it justice!! The owners were wonderfully accomodating for our group, and I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative. We had a group of 7, extended family for vacation, consisting of adults and children, and it was perfect for all of us. We enjoyed Block Island and Newport, and ate Ice Cream several times at local places, like Brickleys and Inside Scoop. We had Kingston Pizza a couple of times, both for Pizza and for other Italian fare, and it was all delicious. Even though we had rainy weather a couple of days, we still really enjoyed ourselves!! I would highly recommend it!
This house made our family vacation truly wonderful. The house was very clean and well maintained and the home owner could not have been anymore helpful and gracious. The 6 bedrooms were each unique with their beautifully handmade quilts and antiques. The history of the home was amazing and added a special warmth to our stay. The newer addition provided a spacious family room, dining area, and a fully equiped kitchen with granite countertops and a sub-zero refrigerator. Our children loved playing croquet in the large yard and we felt comfortable letting our children explore the property. The beaches were all within a 10-15 minute drive away. Although we had to drive to get to the beaches we found it was a relief to leave the chaos at the end of the day and return to our peaceful farm. The outdoor shower provided a wonderful place to rinse the sand off after a long day at the beach. Newport, Jamestown, Boston, and so many other places were all easily accessed from this home as well. We would recommend this home as a great/unique place to vacation.
Narragansett Bay with private beach is minutes away, Sandy ocean beach is 8 miles south (Narragansett Pier or Scarborough State Beach), or beaches in Newport on Rhode Island Sound 15 minutes away. Block Island is an easy day trip with beautiful beaches, biking, kayaking, sightseeing and shopping. Nestled along the waterfront of Wickford Harbor is historic Wickford Village ('little Newport') offering a taste of New England life as it was a century and more ago. It is noted to be 'one of the 10 best Main Streets in the USA' ' lined with shops, day-sailing excursions, kayaking, paddleboarding, concerts & parks . Wonderful restaurants minutes away. We will recommend the good ones. Centered between historic Newport and Providence (historic Federal Hill providing great restaurants and shopping. Bike along the beach route on beautiful Route 1A, or ride the bike paths in Quonset, South County or Bristol, where children can ride with you.
