Pupukea House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This prime beachfront home on the famous Banzai Pipeline is one of the deepest beaches in Hawaii, is privacy gated with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, two story home with beachfront decks on two levels. Built in 1992 by owner, its clean, light colored tiles and carpet is still one of the better homes on the North Shore offered for rent. The home allows more privacy having the second story with its own family room and 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The first floor has the living room, kitchen 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

From November through March, the North Shore's winter waves attracts world class surfers from around the world. While spectacular, caution is advised. The beach in front of the house extends a long way beyond Sunset Beach, with a high concentration of the world's greatest surf spots and ocean. A life guard stand is in front of our neighbor's house, providing guidance.

The nearby town of Haleiwa is most charming with innumerable art galleries, shave ice, shops and restaurants. In the other directions is the Turtle Bay Resort, with golf, tennis, restaurants and very nice beaches as well.

About Rai Chu

You have heard about whining to a spouse saying 'when are you going to get me a spot on a number 10 beach' (rated from 1 to 10). Well we looked for many years and finally found the perfect spot on a high noll in front of Rock Piles. We then tore down the old house owned by a Hollywood movie writer, so we could build the nicest possible house on this lot. This house has been the spot for writers, photographers, surf industry and other surfing affcionados during the high surf season. Then the rest of the year from March to early November it is great for those who are more timid in the ocean. Anytime its great to sit on the deck and read a good book while watching and hearing the crashing waves.

Rai Chu purchased this house in 1992

Why Rai Chu chose Pupukea

This has always been my favorite area of Hawaii - a great beach town with great restaurants, art galleries, interesting shops, great shaved ice and most of all great & beautiful beaches. These beaches have charisma. I wanted a # 10 (rated from 1-10) as far as beaches go and found my paradise here. It is a total get away, very quiet and serene, while during world class surfing events and big wave season, it is difficult to find parking or a place to hang your hat. You can be very satisfied that you have this place to rest and relax.

What makes this house unique

The beach from our house goes on forever for long walks and sight seeing, shelling, swimming or just watching the surfers, boats or other beach goers. Directly in front of our house is 'Rock Piles' where you can sit between the rocks and let the waves crash over you. The best time of day is the hour or two before sunset, when the sun is low in the sky and casts a golden glow on the beach. Then we stop everything to watch the sunset on the horizon ... just another perfect day in paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are having the time of our lives, not only having our family all together, but this is a perfect place and truly delightful and beautiful. We love this beach and will be back, most certainly.

Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a dream vacation. The house accommodated 9 of us perfectly. We especially liked the kitchen/dining area, porch, and of course the wonderful location on the beach. The kids, body surfed, snorkeled, and found lots of sea glass. A week went by way to quick and we definitely want to come back. Thanks, Rai, you were great to work with.

Owner's Response: This guest was apprehensive about sending money and dealing with someone she did not know. I assured her that my husband and I are long term residents and professionals contributing to the community and devoted to allowing every visitor to have an unforgettable experience.

Best Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5
Rental process was super easy. House was spotless when we arrived. It was well stocked with virtually everything needed to enjoy your stay - from cooking tools to beach towels. The house was very spacious & the beds were very comfortable. Location is really beautiful. Ocean views are really spectacular, with the sunsets especially great! My wife wanted to hear the waves at night & boy did this place deliver! The beach was gorgeous with hardly anyone on it in any direction - Water was warm, clean, clear & full of fish.

With the supermarket (Foodland) so close & many local producers selling fresh fruit, vegetables & fish all along the hwy, we took advantage of the well furnished kitchen & BBQ'd most of the time - plus we were hard pressed to find any prettier place to eat.

The week went by way too fast. We're now all talking about when we will come back!

Superior Property on the North Shore

  • 5 of 5
Let me begin to say that over the past 15 years I have stayed at some truly remarkable properties (as a member of Wyndham Vacation Resorts which have some spectacular properties) in nearly 20 visits to all the major Hawaiian islands. The overall location and amenities of the Banzai Beach House definitely rank at the top of any of the other properties at which I stayed. The previous reviews of this property on this website are spot on and need not be repeated. The photographs and description of this listing are totally correct but truly do not do justice to this property.

Our family of 9 (seven in the age range of 40-70, one 18 yr old and one 4 yr old) were easily and comfortably accommodated in this clean 4 BR, 3 bath home. We corresponded with Rai, the owner, numerous times prior to our stay and she was always prompt and courteous in answering our questions. The furnishings and amenities included were great without being conspicuous. The fronting beach extends 'forever' in both directions. Great snorkeling and diving for all can be found a short distance ( one mile or less) away at Sharks Cove, swimming is great at Wiamea Bay and Sunset Beach about 2 miles away.

For those who may be somewhat concerned about the Google photo's showing construction activity at the property immediately to the north of the beach house be advised that this construction is completed and not to be of a concern.

Do be prepared however for periods of high traffic on Kamehameha Road on the four mile stretch between the property and Haleiwa. Unfortunately this is the price to be paid for the numerous beautiful beaches which are easily accessible from and along the highway.

Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5
The pictures on the web site do not do this house justice! It sits on the nicest stretch of beach on the North Shore, with Ke Iki Beach and Log Cabins to the Southwest, Rockpiles directly in front, and Off The Wall, Back Door, Bonzai pipeline and Sunset Beach to the Northeast.

When the surf is up, you will have some of the best surfers in the world surfing the Rockpiles surf break right in front of your house. When the surf is down, you will have excellent snorkeling and swimming. Regardless of the surf conditions, you will have great unobstructed ocean and sunset views and a gentle breeze blowing through the house to keep you comfortable. Particularly memorable are dinners at the dining room table with a sunset view.

The house itself is very clean and in great condition, with brand-new kitchen cabinets, fully-stocked linen closets to include plenty of beach and bath towels, a fully-equipped kitchen (including at least three blenders and two juicers for margaritas!), large-capacity washer and dryer, iron, ironing board, 2 x Flat Screen TVs and flawless wireless internet connectivity throughout the property. We spent 2 weeks on site, with 6 adults and one infant and had plenty of room and privacy.

In addition to the great beach access mentioned above, the house is an easy walk to Sharks' Cove, Shark's Cove Grill, Foodland, 3-Tables, and Waimea Bay. In addition, in less than 15 minutes you can drive to either Haliewa Town, Turtle Bay or Kahuku.

As a bonus, Rai and Tricia are very easy to work with!

This was our fifth trip to Oahu and Rai's home is clearly our favorite place to stay . . . looking forward to returning in the near future!

Paradise found...

  • 5 of 5
My hubby and I spent a week at this house with 5 teenagers and Grandma. What an incredible piece of property. The house is large enough that everyone had their own space, but not so big that we were "lost" to each other! The house is very well stocked with every kitchen utensil you will ever need and the towels were plentiful, including the nice plush beach towels. Having a washer and dryer was a godsend and kudos to Rai for the thoughtful extras including beach chairs, umbrella and boogie boards. The house is situated on an incredible stretch of beach that is almost deserted. Imagine waking up in the morning and sitting on the deck with a coffee watching the whales frolic on the horizon. Now imagine doing this every morning of your vacation! Incredibly beautiful and relaxing, we never wanted to leave the property. We did venture down the road to sharks cove for snorkeling, which my kids figured was better than hanuama. Also worth the short drive to turtle beach where we swam with dozens of sea turtles. For non swimmers...no worries these little guys were everywhere!
Our family had a blast in the water right behind the house as the waves were great for body surfing and even surfing a few mornings. We rented 2 surfboards through hawaiisurfboardrentals.com. It was a whale of a deal...$150 for the week including drop off and pick up right at the house.
If you want a truly special and incredibly relaxing Hawaiian vacation this is the place for you. A lovely little slice of heaven.
Thanks Rai for a wonderful holiday and we will definately be back next year, hopefully for a much longer time!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5
We have not had our little family together under one roof since our daughters have married. This was perfect. Clean, the photos were spot on) We brought over two grandma's and had a household from 16 mos to 70 years old here. Perfect amount of sleeping for all of us. We would see the surfers at 6:30am waiting for a wave. The picnic table, large kitchen and BBQ were just right for bringing five little households to reunite again. My husband loves to geocache and he found an ancient Hawaiian Temple ground not too far and a artillery pill box from WWII up the mountain directly behind the house. Matsumoto's in Haliewa was not too far for our daily Hawaiian Shave Ice. Some of our family went down to Haliewa and paid to be shark bait for a bit. If we ever go back to Oahu, this will be the rental we look for again.
