Wild Dunes:
Located quietly on the northern end of the Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes offers an atmosphere of exclusivity and lush beauty. It is an area thick with tropical vegetation, where stunning marsh vistas and wide secluded beaches are part of the norm. Bike and jogging trails wind lazily throughout the resort, and accommodations range from quaint cottages to magnificent oceanfront mansions.
Charleston:
As an added benefit to choosing Wild Dunes as your vacation retreat, you'll find yourself only twelve miles from Historic Charleston. Also known as 'The Holy City,' Charleston is one of America's most beautifully preserved architectural and historic treasures. Since its founding in 1670, Charleston has played an important and often pivotal role in the course of American history.
Charleston has been the scene of numerous and varied historic 'firsts.' The first decisive American victory during the Revolution occurred at the Battle of Fort Sullivan on Sullivan's Island. The first regularly scheduled passenger train service in America was established here in 1830. The initial shots of the Civil War were fired on Union troops stationed at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. And the first American golf course, Harleston Green, and golf club, The South Carolina Golf Club, were established in 1786. History is literally around every corner in this City of mystery and beauty.
Shopping and dining in Charleston are also memorable experiences. You'll find dozens of restaurants serving everything from five-star dining to southern-style fried shrimp and red rice. Shopping in Charleston is just as diverse and exciting. From quaint antique shops along King Street to the hand-made sweet-grass baskets and other crafts in Charleston's Historic District and famous Old City Market to it's numerous art galleries- Charleston is full of interesting and unusual specialty shops.
There are also many family activities including the Children's Museum the South Carolina Aquarium, the USS Yorktown, Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumpter to name a few.
Golf:
Wild Dunes is located on the beautiful Isle of Palms and boasts two terrific courses. The award-winning Links Course was designed by Tom Fazio and features spectacular finishing holes on the Atlantic Ocean. The Harbor Course, also designed by Fazio plays along the Intracoastal Waterway.
In addition to these great resorts, there is more great golf available on other Charleston area semi-private and public courses. Some of our favorites are the Arnold Palmer designed RiverTowne, Dunes West, Charleston National and Shadowmoss. You will not be disappointed playing any of these courses, and as an added bonus, Kiawah offers 4 couses, hosting the thrilling 1991 Ryder Cup Matches on the awesome Ocean Course. Kiawah also has Osprey Point, Turtle Point, and Cougar Point.
