My family and I stayed for a weekend for a family gathering. The house was amazing and accommodating for everyone in my family. The boys enjoyed the bottom level with all the games and room to play with privacy. It gave the parents time to cook without kids under our feet. The house was very clean with amazing views from every room. The house has so many nice touches, very warm and cozy. We watched whales from the kitchen and enjoyed watching the surfers. i would recommend this beautiful home to anyone that wants to have a very comfortable and safe place to stay with plenty of things to do. Tide pools, beach combing for miles, and one of the most beautiful beaches in Oregon. We had a great time visiting with everyone and having a beach fire right in front of the house. The owner was very easy to deal with and did not charge all the fees that most of the places charge. Simple and straight forward. Really a great experiece for everyone in our family. We will be coming back.
We were a party of 7 who were travelling down the coast to California looking for a place to stay for 4 days to allow my German guests some time to get over their jet lag and take in the beautiful west coast. I found and booked this place based on reviews. You will not be disappointed. Otter Rock itself is a hidden gem. This home, I'd be thrilled to call it my home, can accommodate 2 small families (and a pet if you wished), presents a beautiful, relaxing view that is quickly accessed with a short walk down to the beach. As previous viewers mentioned, the home itself is relaxing, set up to allow teenagers or even family members their own privacy, kitchen was more than adequate to allow us to have meals in and be all seated together, no problems with any of the kitchen utensils that some other reviewer complained about, has 2 decks and both give a view of the ocean! and clean! For a place that allows you to bring your pets, there was no lingering pet smells anywhere when we arrived. That alone is 5 stars for me. The owner was easy to deal with, prompt and efficient. Book and enjoy this secluded piece of Oregon coast paradise. I don't think you will be disappointed.
We had a fabulous stay at Otter Rock. Our only regret was not staying longer! The house was the perfect set up for us, parents with 2 tweens. They could have their own space in the basement and we could relax on any level. The views are amazing and we saw whales almost everyday from the deck. We also enjoyed watching the surfers. If you every think of selling, Tom, let us know!! Lots of extras are included, like puzzles and board games. Kitchen has everything you need. It would be awesome to have a hot tub, but that is about the only thing it is lacking. Very comfortable and Tom is very easy to work with. Looking at booking again for next year!
Lucky for us, we found this house available for 5 nights during our Oregon vacation so we planned our itinerary around it. This was probably the cleanest VRBO house we've ever rented. It's very nicely and warmly decorated - we seemed to notice something new each day. The bedding is top-notch, which is always very appreciated and our bed was super comfortable. The living furniture was absolutely fine, very inviting but it could probably use another table lamp if you like to read. The view is great, despite the neighbor's pine tree obscuring things a bit. We appreciated having our Shepherd with us and he loved laying out on the deck where he could watch the action below. The house had many small touches that are oftentimes overlooked in a rental.
The small kitchen is extremely well-stocked with everything you need (the knives are a bit dull though!). The deck furniture looked new and was clean as well. While we didn't use the second bedroom, the room is very cozy. The lowest level, which we didn't use either, would be awesome for tweens/teens. We should have taken advantage of the tub!
The unloading/loading is a bit precarious as there is not much room for a vehicle and a then a short uphill path to the house which is somewhat overgrown. This probably should not be your first oceanfront rental choice if you (or your older dog) have trouble navigating stairs and a tricky path down to the beach. However, if that isn't a concern, this beach is absolutely wonderful. We spent many hours on the beach and our old dog was revitalized, even though he paid for it in stiffness in the evenings! We enjoy hunting driftwood and roaming the uncrowded space. The back deck is nice to sit in the sun and read when it's too cool and shady on the front deck so that's a great plus. Having the sound of the surf thru the windows/doors is beyond compare.
Our time there was so enjoyable, we didn't leave much. Newport's bayfront is unique as is the Pirate's Plunder across the bridge if you like to poke around antiques and collectibles. We highly recommend The Chowder Bowl in the Nye Beach area of Newport - their clam chowder is still our reigning favorite from up and down the coast. Don't waste your time at Mo's if you want chowder.
Tom, the owner, is super easy to work with and made the whole transaction "no fuss". There was a simple agreement and information list and we appreciate that immensely. Thank you so much! Going back to Texas is tough!
If you think you're going to find paradise here, well, I need to let you know: You will. As hard as it is to write a glowing review on a place that I hold dear and wish to have (affordable) access to for the rest of my life...I gotta give it up! This is a place full of wonder...or, to say it in a different way, it's wonderful. Yeah, the furniture needs to be updated, but it's comfortable. The road in is scary, but, trust me, it's worth it. And, it could certainly use a thorough and deep cleaning, but it is clean. And, it's homey. And, it's a wonderful place to leave the phone, the computer, the daily annoyances behind. If you want paradise, here it is.
Tom and Family, Thank you for sharing your lovely home with a group of heat and drought weary TEXANS. We arrived to a light mist, 60 degree temperatures (it was 114 degrees when we left home and 106 when we returned) and wonderful views of the ocean. Three of the members of our party had never been out of Texas and within an hour in you home - they were trying to find a way to stay all summer. The house was extremely comfortable and suited us well. The beach was enjoyed by all. We read all the material around the house on things to do and never did get bored. I do have to applogize for not getting out of the house by 11:00 (made it by 11:30) but our short, fast last trip to the beach took much longer than planned. Everyone decided 5 stars is not enough so make it 10. We hope to make a return trip next year but will definately be back. Thanks again for your gracious hospitality. The hot and very dry Texas.
This Secluded beach front house is perfect if you want breath taking views, with over 6 miles of sandy beaches. Have a beach fire right in front of the house. Enjoy the local wine while you watch Whales from the deck. Golf at one of the many courses nearby. Go fishing or crabbing. Enjoy the tide pools or a forest walk. See eagles, sea lions, or the many birds. Go for a bike ride or just lay back and read a book and enjoy the sounds of the waves. As they say........location, location, location.......
