Great house – Poor service from the rental company

This house is in really good shape with a very large open floor plan.
It includes use of the nearby pool which was out of the wind from the beach and very nice.
There is a total lack of accessories and cooking supplies though. The bikes are locked up and there are no chairs or large towels for the beach. There was a total lack of any food prep items so we had to buy and leave there the simplest seasonings, oils and such. There is a washer and dryer but no laundry soap.
We had a poor experience with the rental company. It was very difficult getting info from them prior to the rental once they had our down payment. We arrived after hours and their lock box system worked well. Except that they didn’t put enough car passes as we had requested several times prior to arrival. So we had to explain our way through at the manned security checkpoint. We were not informed that in addition to the manned security you had to go through to get onto Wild Dunes, this property was behind a locked gate. The code for the locked gate was not clearly indicated on the paperwork and there was no way for us to reach security. We called the after hours number for the rental company but that person didn’t know what to do. So we ended up having to wait for another car to come along and we followed them in. When we arrived at the house it had not been completely cleaned or restocked with towels, TP and bath soap. We had to call the rental company and they came out the next day with the supplies and finished the cleaning. While we were there a person came to do some maintenance. (why would a rental company schedule maintenance when a property is occupied by renters)
Overall I would not recommend renting through Resort Quest. The house was great once we got into it and had them come back to finish their cleaning.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your description of the house as 'A Great House with a very large open floor plan.'
How well is the kitchen stocked? I want to clarify this point by distinguishing between cookware, kitchen utensils, serving ware, small kitchen appliances, dinnerware, flatware and glassware, all of which we offer a comprehensive supply of, and food items such as spices and cooking oils, which may or may not be on site, at any given time.
I have an inventory list of 59 types of kitchen and dining service items, within the categories noted above, which we stock! These items range from an electric mixer, blender, coffee maker, toaster, etc, within the small appliance category, to cutting boards, colander, grater, mixing bowls, vegetable peeler, etc., within the kitchen utensil category, to cake pan, broiler, roaster, seafood pot, sauce pans, etc., within the cookware category. Please note that due to space limitations, I can't list nearly every item stocked. We have hosted families for Thanksgiving Week who have prepared and served complete Thanksgiving dinners at the house! So, you can be assured of a complete range of cooking and dining service items for your use.
We have replaced the cleaning service, based upon this guest's complaint that they had to have housekeeping return to complete their cleaning and stocking of basic toiletry items, following check-in. This was not acceptable.
True, we don't provide beach towels. I am not aware of any owners who do.
Bikes - we would love to make them available for the use of our guests. Biking at Wild Dunes is a wonderful activity. But, there is no way to ensure that the bikes are always in safe, operable condition for our guests. We aren't comfortable providing bikes if we can't be sure that chains are oiled, tires are inflated and checked, etc. There are bike rental services which will conveniently drop off/pick-up bikes at the house.
Chairs - there are often, though not always, basic beach chairs in the garage. There is also a service which will deliver beach chairs to the beach for you each morning, if you prefer.
I have to admit that I am proud of this beach home, and love that our guests enjoy its beauty, conveniences and special location.
If I can answer any questions about the house, Wild Dunes, Charleston, etc., please don't hesitate to ask...Thank you
