A family member purchased this home in 1941, after retiring to Seattle from Anchorage, AK. The house has remained in the family since and became a vacation rental in 2007. We love this house and enjoy sharing it with fellow travelers. The house is peaceful and has a quiet calm that insulates from the busy lifestyles of this age. We live and work in Alaska and take vacations in Seattle too. We hope you find our home as enjoyable as we have. See our Alaskan vacation rental at vrbo listing #289953.
The Owner purchased this house in 1941
We renovated most of the home, including "discovering" the beautiful original oak flooring beneath the living room carpet. The house has most of the original windows and flooring, the kitchen was added in the 1960's. We had the floors refurbished, re-plastered and repainted the walls, and purchased new furnishings in 2007. The wheelchair ramp and vanity & sink were added over the years to accommodate an electric wheelchair. Please note that these are not to current ADA requirements.
Carkeek Park in located just minutes from the house. Take a stroll on the beach, watch the sun set, stand on the pedestrian bridge over the train tracks while the train rushes beneath you!
After perviously staying at another residence, we're "at home" at The Gatehouse. It has all that we want--close to family and Green Lake Park, to a bus stop and a library. We loved the view in a quiet neighborhood near Carkeek Park.
The Bunglow was perfect! Spacious, clean and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable and it was wonderful to have a washer and dryer in the house. Our boys (7 & 5) loved the toy chest with the blocks and chess set and we loved having the space to let them run around. Bus routes #5 and #28 are very close by and run right downtown with grocery stores near by. I would highly recommend and will definately rent again when in Seattle.
We stayed here the week of July 4th. Very comfortable and close to our daughter who we came to visit. Had a wonderful stay everything we needed was there. Great view of the sound.
This little bungalow saved us a bunch of money on our stay here in Seattle! It was so much cozier than staying at a hotel and it was far more convenient than anything else at a comparable price. We were close to Green Lake, Lake Union, Carkeek Park and about 15min from Seattle Center. The house had a nicely supplied kitchen that allowed us to cook on days when we just wanted to hang out with our family that we were visiting. Also, there was enough off-street parking for our minivan and a honda accord--and no parking fees like at hotels! We look forward to staying here again on our next family visit.
Our stay at the Seattle Gatehouse was cozy and peaceful. The location was great close to the city, zoo, and shoping, yet in a quite neighborhood and close to the beach at Carkeek park. I can't wait to go back and see more of this beautiful city and we will definitely stay at the Seattle Gatehouse again.
