Welcome to Flamboyant Cottage, our gingerbread-cute vacation home on Saba, The Unspoiled Queen of the Caribbean. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and private pool, it's a beautiful and relaxing home away from home. The cottage is the perfect base from which to experience Saba's timeless charm. Come experience all the Unspoiled Queen has to offer!

Located in a secluded, private area on Booby Hill just a 12-minute walk up from Windwardside, Flamboyant Cottage is perched 1,500 feet above sea level. The property is situated on the southeast hills of Saba, directly in the trade winds, and the terraces offer spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea and the islands of St. Eustatius (Statia), St. Kitts and Nevis.

Flamboyant Cottage's proximity to Windwardside means that you're within easy walking distance to groceries, shopping and several restaurants. To get around the island, taxis are just a phone call away, or better yet, don your hiking shoes and take advantage of Saba's spectacular hiking trails. Saba's dive operations offer excellent service, including transportation from the cottage to the dive boats docked at Fort Bay.

Flamboyant Cottage has two bedrooms (one queen bed, two twin beds), two bathrooms (each with a shower), a fully equipped kitchen, an outside dining gazebo, and tiled terraces leading to a beautiful private pool. The cottage is designed for one or two couples, and can sleep a maximum of four people.

Flamboyant Cottage is our relaxed, quiet, home away from home. If you're looking for a peaceful, restful environment for your vacation, this is the place for you. Days can be spent being as lazy or energetic as you want - you can sit by the pool with a favorite book, spend the day under the Caribbean Sea with one of Saba's local dive shops, or test your physical fitness on Saba's hiking trails. At night you have your choice of relaxing in the cottage's outdoor gazebo with a home cooked meal or walking into Windwardside to sample one of Saba's several restaurants.

About Sherry Marts and Larry Haller

We first visited Saba after hearing about the spectacular diving. That first visit was too short to do much exploring, so we came back to dive and hike and see more of this charming and unspoiled island, and we fell in love with the place and the people.

Flamboyant Cottage is a typical Saba cottage, perched on the side of a hill and perfectly situated to catch the constant breeze off the Caribbean. Flamboyant Cottage sits in a quiet neighborhood (no roosters!) of traditional Saba cottages, with a spectacular view of neighboring islands. Make the 12-minute walk to Windwardside for shopping and dining, and stop at the Trail Shop, the Tourist Bureau, or one of the dive shops to learn more about Saba's natural beauty, above and below water.

What makes this cottage unique

Saba has no beaches, no large resorts, no cruise ship visits. It offers pristine reefs for diving, hiking through spectacular rainforest and cloudforest ecosystems, and great dining. Sabians are some of the friendliest people you'll meet, and they are justifiably proud of their island's unique history and culture. Spend the morning diving or hiking, come back for a dip in the pool. Sit on the porch, sip a glass of wine, watch the sky change at sunset and listen as the tree frogs start to sing, then stroll into Windwardside for dinner (remember to take a flashlight!). Ahhh.

Flamboyant Cottage is located on Booby Hill, a 10 minute walk from the shops, groceries and restaurants of Windwardside on the unspoiled island of Saba. Perched at 1,500 feet above sea level, the view of the Caribbean Sea is spectacular, and the trade winds keep the cottage cool. The cottage has high-speed wireless internet access, and we provide a cell phone for guest use while on island.

Other Activities: Saba offers some of the best reef diving in the Caribbean, and many visitors come for the diving. But while you are on Saba, be sure to enjoy the spectacular hiking, particularly the trails to the top of Mt. Scenery and through the Saban cloud forest. Stop by the trail shop in Windwardside for maps, books and DVDs about Saba's history and natural history, and souvenirs of your visit.

Charming Getaway on the Unspoiled Queen

We enjoyed a week of solitude and wonder on our beloved Saba, suitably named the "unspoiled queen" of the Caribbean. This charming private cottage is well-equipped and offers modern amenities while retaining it's charm.

The cottage offers beautiful views and enjoys the benefit of the trade winds; we didn't need to use the air conditioning at all. The gazebo offers an outdoor dining experience unmatched by many of the best restaurants on the island. The gazebo and patio offer ample room for entertaining friends, family or the charming neighbors - or quiet solitude for just the two of you.

The patio and pool are well-maintained and the seating areas provide a great place to read a book, enjoy tea or just take in the Saban sun.

Flamboyant cottage is located at Johnny's Ground on Booby Hill. Many of the of the locals didn't know the cottage by name, but any of the charming taxi drivers on the island know of it and if you choose to hitch a ride (perfectly acceptable on the island), everyone knows of Johnny's Ground. Booby Hill is a quick walk into the town of Windwardside, offering shopping, galleries and excellent dining.

Our hosts were wonderful; very responsive and extremely helpful. The on-island property managers became fast friends. Our stay was better than we had ever imagined and we're thrilled to return next year.

We stayed two weeks at this cute, comfortable, cottage which is in a quiet, private setting. There were wonderful views of the sea and Statia from the balcony, gazebo and the pool area which made for a very relaxing, tranquil getaway. The cottage is well-equipped from the kitchen to a full bookcase. The attentive property managers are close by if there are any questions or needs. It is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the town of Windwardside where it is fun to explore the bead shop, lace shops, Museum, Art Gallery, other local restaurants, pick up food at the grocery and meet friendly people. A great place to stay whether one is looking for a peaceful get-away, walking/hiking or diving.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
