Photos and Description of the Carova vacation house rental 4 bedroom, 3 bath, sleeps 8-11: 3 Queens, a set of bunks, a futon and a cot.

This off the beaten path retreat fronts the bay. The large grassy yard is great for playing and horsing around – watch out for the wild horses, they like the yard too! Head out onto the bay or take a gentle ride up the canal in one of the kayaks, canoes or the rowboat. Give fishing or crabbing a shot – or just relax and dangle your feet off the pier. Bask in the sun or cool in the shade while enjoying the view off the front or back deck. When it comes time to head to the beach, it’s a little over a half a mile, and a 15-20 minute walk (take the binoculars if you’re a nature enthusiast), or load-up all the trappings in your 4 wheel vehicle and park on the beach - convenient!

  • All the houses in the area are on septic tanks and pump their own water. The water is filtered, but most people still prefer to drink bottled water. The house has a cold water dispenser and I provide a jug of water.

  • The master bedroom is up circular stairs in the loft and is accessed from the main floor. It has a full bath and balcony, as well as TV and VCR. The room with the bunk beds is very small; I've found children often like the coziness of it. There is a living area with TV and VCR on this floor, as well as the kitchen and a full bath. The main decks are off this level. The bedroom on the bottom floor has a child’s bed in addition to the double bed. You'll find a crib in the closet and high chair in the closet on this level. The futon in the den pulls out for relaxing while watching TV or playing video games, and the extra frig on this 1st level comes in handy. The bath on this level is shower (no tub), and the laundry facilities are thru this bathroom.

Notes: There is a computer and high-speed (dish) wireless internet. The wood burning stove makes this a cozy get-away in cooler weather. There's a picnic table/ chairs in the yard as well as on the decks. Beach chairs/life vests/ paddles are in the storage box by the boats. Our goal is to provided fun toys and books for all ages!

We hope you'll enjoy this rustic get-away...: There are few areas left where you can enjoy an off road adventure and the peace and calm of still water while being within walking distance of the glorious Outer Banks beach. We've tried to make the experience as relaxing and hassle free as possible, including providing a starter bag with some of the essentials and what we hope are toys to delight all ages. We'd love to hear from you with comments and suggestions.

Great place for active families!

This is the perfect vacation house to rent for an active family! The location on the bay/canal and the canoes/kayaks provided with this unit brought us many hours of fun when we stayed here last year. Every morning, our families (4 adults, 4 elementary-age kids, 2 dogs) would go out on the boats, exploring all the cool nooks and crannies of the bay. We also had a great time fishing and trying to catch crabs with the crab pots (unfortunately, we only managed to catch non-keepers, but it was fun non-the-less). The ocean is just a short jeep trip over the dunes from the house--stop at the Fire House at the beach entrance and buy a T-shirt! And if you bring a Fire Station patch from home, they will trade you for one of theirs!). The neighbors (permanent residents) were really nice, filling us in on the history of the area and telling us all about the wild horses which were in the yard every morning. The house itself is really cool--from it's funky exterior, to its many decks and well-stocked interior (lots of books, movies, etc for rainy days). The kitchen had all of the needed utensils, including a huge clambake pot, which we used for an awesome seafood feast our last night. So, if you're an active family looking for a nice place where you can do a lot more than just go to the beach, this is the perfect place for you!
