A Heavenly Haven Whatever the Weather

  • 5 of 5
We were naturally disappointed when we realized that our second stay at Crest House was going to coincide with a nasty 3-day Nor'easter, but really, the only downside was that the weather precluded a leisurely walk down to the absolutely gorgeous secluded beach nearby or a cookout on the cottage's beautiful deck. Karen and Brian have outfitted the cottage with everything you might need for a rainy day - tv, wireless, games, marvelous books and magazines full of information on the area, and a better equipped kitchen than most of us probably have at home! And though the cottage is actually very spacious, it still retains a feeling of coziness, especially if you're curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace, or relaxing in that very comfortable rocking chair. Tempting as that was, we braved the weather for the short drive up to Rockland, where we visited the great Farnsworth Musuem and numerous shops and galleries on Main St. as well as the Rockland Antiques Marketplace, which is quite a museum in its own right. Rockland has lots of restaurants to choose from, and we enjoyed the Park St. Grill again and tried the Rockland Café for some excellent seafood chowder. A few miles further north in Rockport, you'll find the pricey-but-worth-it Salt Water Farm Café, and just north of there, bustling Camden. We look forward to going back to Crest House in the balmy days of summer, of course, but will always treasure the memory of our stormy stay in October. This is just an all-around great vacation venue!

BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY AND GREAT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I (and our English Mastiff) enjoyed our week in this lovely cottage. A real plus that well behaved dogs are allowed. This home is private, beautifully clean and comfortable -- also well equipped with all the comforts of home. First floor accommodations with two good sized bedrooms allow for couples traveling together or for
children as well. Ideal for a large family as it also has very nice bedroom accommodations
upstairs.

This property is centrally located and is convenient to many of the areas attractions in addition to the wonderful Coastal towns of Rockland, Rockport and Camden. Many wonderful restaurants, shops and art galleries to enjoy. If inclined, be sure to review the brochure on the "wine trails". Great way to spend the day. All information on activities and things to do are available in the cottage.

Can't say enough nice things about the home, the area and the owners. They are very attentive to your questions and needs.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Our goal is to make Crest House feel like a home away from home for our guests and their canine friends. I'm glad you had a chance to check out the Maine Wine Trail. Who would have thought that Maine could have more than 2 dozen wineries to enjoy? We hope you'll come back and be our guests again soon.

Perfect Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5
Walking into Karen and Brian's home on Spruce Head Island welcomes us back to one of our favorite places in Maine. We love having breakfast and dinner on the deck as our favorite way to begin and end our days. The house is very clean and because Karen loves to cook and bake, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you could possibly need to to prepare your meals. Beds are very comfortable and the gardens are in bloom. There's even fresh flowers on the table to greet you when you arrive!

The beach is near by and there are great places within a short walk to explore. Check out the used book store up the street from the house, find the hidden beach in the opposite direction and some of the best lobsters are right down the hill from the house.

If you love to sample local wines, its an easy drive to wineries in the area and several allow you to walk through the grapevines. Rockland, Camden and South Thomaston are fun to explore with lots of shops and great restaurants.

A absolutely great place to stay, friendly and most accommodating hosts, and a beautiful area to explore. Check it ou!

Perfect Getaway; beautiful home and location!!!

  • 5 of 5
I first visited the mid-Maine coast in 1997 with friends and family, and had a fabulous time. I vowed to recreate that experience at some point in my life, and 2013 was the year. After plenty of research, I decided to have our group stay at Crest House. It was DEFINITELY the right choice!

The house is beautifully decorated with plenty of Maine country accents, and the owners, Karen and Brian, go the extra mile to supply the house with everything you need for a week of fun and relaxation.

Spruce Head Island itself is stunning, and we were a stone's throw from McLoon's Lobster Shack and a short drive from the scenic mid-coast Maine towns of Owl's Head, Rockland, Rockport and Camden.

If you have an opportunity to stay at Crest House, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Do not hesitate to rent this property. We have stayed in many rental properties over the years and none can top this for cleanliness, hospitality, lovely furnishings, accurate description, spacious rooms, and communication with the owners. Karen will make sure that you are well taken care of during your visit. Also, the location was perfect for leisurely exploring the western side of the Penobscot Bay area We plan to return sometime and to bring more of the family with us because there's plenty of room.

Cozy and Inviting

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at Crest House after an extended drive due to car difficulties. What a pleasant surprise when we opened the front door of the cottage. The house is decorated just as you would imagine a Maine Cottage to look like. Karen and Brian have gone out of their way to supply guests with items (paper supplies, soaps, linens, towels, etc.) that in many rentals we have had to supply ourselves . All you need to bring are your clothes and your food. The area is a good jumping off point to explore Maine. There is an abundance of information at the cottage to help you plan your Maine adventures. If you walk across the street, you are looking down on Atwood Lobster Company. There is also Jesse's Fish Market in Rockland. If you want your seafood cooked, there are plenty of eating places in the nearby areas (see the supply of menus and ideas in the basket in living room. One of our favorite places is Cappy's in Camden (north on Rt. 1). While there, you should explore the harbor area and visit the many shops in the village. The island gave us the opportunity to take short walks - Karen will give you directions to one of the small beaches. We definitely give Crest House a thumbs up and hope to return in the future.
