Hale Hoonanea sits on the northeastern side of Oahu, in the rustic fishing village of Punaluu. It is centrally located between Waikiki, Kailua Town and Haleiwa Town.   • Normal Rate is $250 per night with a 3 night minimum stay. Summer Rate runs from June 1st through August 30th and is $350 per night with a 3 night minimum stay. Holiday Rate is from December 15th to January 15th and is $450 per night with a 4 night minimum stay.
  • A deposit of $500 is required to secure the rental and is refundable following cleaning and inspection.

Notes: Many new upgrades abound throughout the interior of the house. Exotic, solid bamboo flooring from China was installed just over a year ago. Improvements in the kitchen include: a new glass top range, refrigerator, washer and dryer. There are new remote controlled, split air conditioning units in each bedroom, as well as two remote controlled ceiling fans, one in the family room and one in the kitchen. Each bathroom has newly installed toilets and sink fixtures. After a fun day of play in the surf and sand, rinse off in the outdoor shower. For entertainment there is a DVD home theater with surround sound in the Family Room.

WOW! Great place for families

This was our first trip to hawaii and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Property was clean and cozy. Beds were comfy. We used the kayak and watched the sunrise each morning from our bed. The kids ran out each morning in pj's to play in their ocean back yard. Cottage neighbors are other residential homes, so location was nice and quiet. We had a wonderful private beach to swim in, gentle enough for the kids. Found a few fish swimming around. It was great. I would highly recommend this place for families. BBQ'd outside once, but got a bit too windy in the evening to use the fire pit. Locals told us summer winds are much calmer. Overall really great experience.

Very Nice, Would Return

We stayed for four nights in mid-February and were very pleased. The photos and descriptions don't lie. It's right on the beach, which is beautiful. My wife and I took a couple of walks per day up and down the beach. There is no outside curb appeal to the house, but it's very nice inside. It's in a row of houses that are right next to each other.

Here are some issues you might consider:

- The location is far from just about anywhere, especially restaurants. If that's what you want, then this is the place for you. When you do want to go anywhere, you have to take a two-lane road, usually behind a long line of very very slow drivers.

- The comment in another review about coral in the water right in front of the house is correct. Going into the water is for the kayak only. I didn't even like it for snorkeling, which I tried. Swimming beaches are close by.

- The DVD player did not work and, if you're taking kids, they won't be too thrilled with the available cable TV channels. On the other hand, it's Hawaii so who wants to stay inside watching the tube?

- One family member felt a bed was too hard, I didn't test it myself so it might only be a matter of taste. One of the couches is all but worthless. The other is extremely comfortable, as is one outside on a deck.

- There's no dishwasher or disposal, in case you plan to cook in the house. On the other hand, there's a large pantry, plenty of cookware and a smoker grill.

The issues above are generally minor. I recommend the house to those who want to get away from the touristy spots (I despise Beverly Hills, uh, I mean Waikiki) and avoid the islands rather inconsistent hotels.

We stayed in July and it is what you want if you really want a tropical paradise.We had 3 teen girls with us and 1 seinor we all loved it.Wake up to the sunrise and drink you coffee by the beach while watching the sun rise.Plenty of room and lots of water supplies,kayak,snorkle gear,boogie boards etc..My 74 yr old mother in law didn't want to leave.For food go north about 4 mile to Foodland in Laie good selection and better prices than small stores near by.The house was clean and plenty of room for all of us,It was truely a dream vacation.

We had a fantastic time! Your house is truly the perfect beach house. Close enough to the Oahu's many great attractions but far enough away so that it's quiet and relaxed. We saw a total of maybe 10 other people on the beach our entire 7 day stay and we spent quite a lot of time on the beach! Every morning my little daughters and I were up early - enjoyed a bit of breakfast on the outdoor patio and a swim before sight seeing and then another swim after. It was so nice to be right on the beach and the gate on the street side definately put me at ease with them running and playing in the back yard. We also used the barbecue almost every night - so nice to be able to cook at our home away from home. There were 7 of us total and the house was spacious enough for all of us - it was also wonderful to have the washer and dryer in the house - lots of laundry with two little ones.

What a wonderful experience it was to rent this home! It was exactly as portrayed in the ads. It was very clean, had a great supply of towels and other amenities. We had a good size back yard, suitable for our 2 teenages to toss a ball in. The beach sunrise view was awesome to wake up to! There was rough coral in the ocean right in front of the house, but a few steps either directions brought us to smooth sand. Our family loved exploring the variety of beaches around the island, so appreciated the available snorkel equipment and boogie boards. One definitely needs a car here. But it is a beautiful, yet short drive to anywhere beautiful and fun. Enjoyed exploring Sunset Beach and the rest of the North Shore. Loved Giovanni's shrimp truck and the roadside fruit stands. We are so glad we stayed out of the touristy madhouse of Waikiki...we could visit and enjoy, and then drive to the peaceful beachside retreat we called home for 8 days!
