My family and I have stayed at this beautiful cabin twice now. It is perfect for a family with teens. The location is breathtaking and the hiking amazing. The owners were wonderful-we were lost and they immediately helped with directions. I would not stay any place else when visiting the Black Hills.
great place, highly recomended, best burgers in south dakota less than a mile away, centrally located to fun and adventures in either direction, owner is friendly and very respectful.
thanks gaylord for sharing your cabin, we will return.
We had a great time staying at the Lost Miner's Lodge. The owner, is wonderful to work with. He worked with our group (there were 6 adults and 6 kids) early in January and he helped us plan our trip for the end of June. He is SO helpful and really nice, recommending places to see and go and also he helped us get a few items that we left behind back to our home, like lickety split! :) The house was amazing and pictures just don't do it justice, it is definitely a homey and relaxing place to go each night after a full day of sightseeing. There was SO much room and everyone (all 12 of us) had their own space and the fact that we could cook each night and in the morning too was super nice. We did however visit Lewie's Bar and Grill just down the road twice (it's a must if you love a good burger, voted best burger in South Dakota and also featured in Midwest Living Magazine too) The house is so awesome because it is close to so many places, like the Wonderland Cave, Silvan Lake, Custer State Park, Devil's Tour, Spearfish Canyon Waterfalls, Badlands and MT. Rushmore and of course Deadwood (that's just down the road). There is a grocery store and gas station right by the house too. We can't say enough about this place, it was worth the money and the price was so reasonable too! It is a good price, location, the house itself is SO nice and big and accommodating too, it even had laundry and a dishwasher. We loved our trip and loved our stay and the owner is wonderful to work with. A must if you are coming to the area and need a place to stay. We would stay again in a heartbeat! We highly recommend! - Three families from Wisconsin!
We rented this cabin on very short notice. There was a large group of us coming into town for a wedding and had to scramble to find an affordable rental that could fit us all. And we found it! The owner could not have been easier to work with and the place exceeded our expectations. Very clean and had everything we needed. Not far at all from downtown Deadwood and very peaceful at night. We would book this place again and highly recommend.
We (a group of 12) spent four nights at Lost Miner's Lodge, which we chose for the location and reasonable rate. We found the accommodations to be very clean, the owner easy to reach, and the fact that it is stocked with every basic essential convenient. Unfortunately, it needs some basic (probably inexpensive) maintenance. At least two of the smoke detectors are inoperable (hanging down from the ceiling missing batteries or completely gone); the light above the stove is burned out; the oven light is burned out; the photo of the dining room shows six chairs, there are only five; the foosball table has missing handles and broken brackets; the gaming system doesn't work properly; the outdoor grill valves don't work properly (they need cleaning) so the temperature is too low for proper cooking and it smokes excessively; cigarette butts and candy wrappers littered the front deck area; the trash area was overflowing when we arrived (with several bags on top of the numerous large garbage containers); and the window covering in the downstairs bunk bed room was missing (we improvised by putting up a sheet). To add insult to injury, comments from the cabin's guest book from others who'd stayed had had similar comments (slipped into otherwise glowing reviews) about the things like the foosball table and game system being broken from up to two years before our stay. In addition, the cabin, conveniently located near several attractions and the town, is a mere tenth of mile as the crow flies from and higher in elevation than Nevada Gulch Road, so with the windows open on the east side of the cabin, you can hear every vehicle drive by. Although the beds do accommodate 16, the actual setup would have been nice to know ahead of time. There are two rooms with two single top bunks, one single bottom bunk, and one double bottom bunk; one completely open "playroom" with a day bed that sleeps one and a pullout bed (connected together) below that sleeps a second person; and two rooms with double beds. Although I must repeat that the rate was reasonable, the cabin was extremely clean and we enjoyed our stay, we probably wouldn't stay again nor would we recommend it to a friend.
We had a fantastic vacation in South Dakota. The pictures of this cabin do not serve it justice. Its so beautiful inside. Everyone kept saying how nice it was and how they didn't want to leave. In fact, we let the two men go off to Sturgis while the moms and kids stayed back and just enjoyed spending time together. The kids loved the foos ball table and video games downstairs too. If we ever go back to this area we will definitely check to see if this cabin is available. The owners were great to deal with and when we got home (driving back to South Carolina) the security deposit check was already in the mailbox. From reading other reviews, we made sure we were on the look out for the gravel driveway. You'd never know a cabin was up there. We saw a few deer one night standing in the driveway on our way back in. Beautiful place, would definitely recommend!
