Wonderful house!

  • 5 of 5
We spent "camp changeover weekend" at owner Robin's tree house perched over a beautiful lake. Her house is meticulously clean, comfortable, updated and just lovely. The master bedroom looks out on to the lake and in the morning you can watch the fog roll around on top of it. There is lots of room very large groups and no one gets in each others way, but the house is surpisingly intimate, so you can feel comfortable as a couple. You don't need to bring a thing, just stop at the store first, because it is about a 5 minute drive to downtown Lee where there is everything you might have forgotten. We hope to come again.

Beautiful Property

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful home with everything you could possibly need. The main floor is open and is the living area. Bedrooms are up and downstairs. No need to use those floors unless going to bed or showering so it worked very well for us since we had small children. The porch was amazing. W loved the access to the pond and used the canoe daily with my kids. The rickety dock was not as scary as it sounded!

The location was perfect. Secluded on a gravel road but only 10 minutes from Lee. It was also equidistant from Great Barrington and Pittsfield so we could explore all of the places around. Very close to Tanglewood as well.

Robin was helpful and gave us great tips for hiking and swimming places.

Let down by Lee.

Although set in a beautiful area on a secluded road my issues are less with the house and more with the owner. We spent a long weekend there recently with friends and children. At first glance the home seems very nice but as you settle in the details emerge. The bedrooms downstairs have hands down the most uncomfortable beds I have ever had the misfortune of laying on. In addition there were little green rodent poison pellets everywhere throughout the downstairs. The home is either 99 degrees or 50 degrees no matter what you try. The shower is equally fickle as the temperature fluctuates between scalding and freezing every 8 seconds. If you bring electronic devices don't plan on using them as the wifi is nonexistent. The main level is smaller than it appears and there is literally one place to sit on the entire floor. The staircase down is meagerly protected by a broken wooden gate that could not keep out a guinea pig. The stairs have no railing on one side which leaves a 10 foot fall wide open. By some small miracle none of the children fell to their doom. The dining furniture was either completely broken or rendered unusable by broken legs. Essentially you have a 12 foot table with 8 broken chairs around it. We had more than one child fall backwards to the floor. Unless you like sitting on the floor I recommend bringing a chair or 12. After our stay the owner informed us that we caused all sorts of damage to the home and would not return our security deposit citing damage to a floor that you can literally see through from one story to the next, and damaged dishware. Literally every cup and bowl I used over the weekend was in some state of disrepair from chipped glasses to cracked mugs. The owner decided to stick our group with the cost of repairs to the sum of over 200 dollars. In the end I would go there again if I brought the following items:
My own bed, no children, a space heater, an air conditioner, a working toilet, a working shower, my own bedding, cups, plates, pans. A mountain lion to combat the apparent rodent infestation, a tent, 14 usable chairs, a new couch, glasses that don't cut you when you drink from them etc.
You get my drift... A great time with great friends was soured by an unscrupulous owner who decided to take advantage. STAY AWAY!!! It's also great to see armed men get out of a truck and walk into the woods your children are sledding in. PS No birds in sight...

Owner's Response: wow. I will try to address these accusations.
These renters were warned about the stairs...and the fragile nature of the antique furniture. They said it wouldn't be a problem.
There are 3 heating zones, one for each floor. However if you use the wood stove indiscriminately it is going to make the house very hot. I showed them how to use the stove and warned them about the heat.
The downstairs beds are all new (two years old), and no one has ever complained about them or the water in the showers.
These folks moved furniture, damaged floors, ruined pots and pans and left the house a disaster. They were only there for 3 days but it took over 10 hours to clean the house. I emailed them photos of the damage they had done. Every dish, bowl, cup, pot and pan had to be rewashed. Major pieces of furniture had been moved and not put back. they stained brand new towels, left garbage and crumbs over every floor.
The house is in the woods, next to a state forest. It is hunting season and anyone can hunt on state land. I had told them it is not a good place for kids to be unattended.
The alleged $200 for damages was the $150 cleaning fee, and the cost of replacing things they broke...bowls, mugs, towels, fancy waste baskets. I didn't charge them for much of the damage.
I am sorry their experience was under par, but unfortunately, i tried my best to meet them half way.
Finally, the gate was not broken until they got there. And, there are very few birds in the middle of winter.
This is not a house to come and have a careless 3-day binge while your kids run unattended. Sorry for the unhappy experience.

Beautiful views on a secluded piece of property. It was very close to all that the Berkshires has to offer. My family enjoyed our stay very much and we found Robin to be extremly helpful and accommodating.
