About 8 Star Alaska

Life-long Alaskans. We love Alaska, and look forward to sharing our special piece of Alaska heaven with you.

8 Star Alaska purchased this chalet in 2007

Why 8 Star Alaska chose Seward

The Kenai Peninsula has it all - mountains, rivers, lakes, ocean, glaciers, wildlife -everything you've come to Alaska to see and do. Grew-up camping, hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, skiing on the Kenai. These chalets were our favorite winter get-away on the Kenai - so we bought them.

What makes this chalet unique

There is no comparable property on the Eastern Kenai that we've found. The location is awesomely beautiful- overlooking Trail Lake, surrounded by incredible mountains. And it's all right outside the picture windows. The chalets are constructed to take advantage of the location, and are well appointed and beautifully decorated. The hot tubs are a bonus, and the privacy means you'll have peace and quiet if you want it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This chalet (Steller Jay) was absolutely incredible. Far beyond our expectations! Thank you for our amazing stay.

Great for families with kids!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two nights, 5 adults and 3 kids (2 of them under two). It is an easy to find location, and a gorgeous one at that. I was impressed with the thoughtfulness the owners have put into anticipating the needs of guests. There was a pack-in-play and an extra twin mattress available, so my family of 5 were able to all stay in the same room- allowing the Aunt and Uncle a room of their own, and the Grandma a room of her own. Our kids loved it, out of town guests loved it, and I particularly loved the "lego" type blocks they had available- completely entertained our kids while we unpacked, and then again when we were packing up to go. The hot tub was my favorite spot, and you can't beat the scenary. Even as an Alaskan, I was impressed with the view. The location was key for us, as it allowed us to take our time coming down from Anchorage- stopping in various places along Turnagin arm and in the pass- and still arrive in time to make and eat dinner. Seward is close enough to explore- we hiked out to Exit Glacier and went to the Sealife center. We are definatly coming back, but next time I plan to spend even more time at the Chalet!

Out favorite in AK

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay here, so obviously we like it. Sitting right above a huge lake, the chalet literally is surrounded by soaring mountains. I've been to most of the "great" mountain ranges in the world, and I don't miss any of them when I'm here. The views from this house and the Stellar Jay are both stupendous. Nothing but forest, lake, and mountain. While this is not a fly-in cabin, and you can hear cars pass on the (totally out of view) Seward Highway, and there's a power line behind the house, it is hard to beat a place this easy to get to (1:45 from ANC and :25 to Seward) that feels this remote. World-class hiking trails are in every direction; nearly a dozen within a 15 minute drive. The lake was clear of snow for this March trip, so ice skating was beyond belief. A tub full of legos brought peace to the house for hours every day for our kids. Beds are comfy, and bedrooms carefully darkified. The view from the totally private and wonderful hot tub at both places is addictive - we spent much of both vacations soaking. Gary has been perfectly helpful on both of our trips here (ie road updates during a blizzard, Dall sheep sightings on the drive back). We'll be back, I hope!

Wonderful Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of celebrating Christmas 2014 at the Wild Rose and found it very comfortable, very nicely decorated, and literally all we had to bring were our food and clothing. They had games, hot tub with plenty of towels , and a washer and dryer. The owners have taken great care to make sure your needs are met above expectations! We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations and convenient location.

Beautiful Chalet with amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

My family, my sister and her kids, and my mom stayed for a weekend and didn't want to leave! The house is big and has lots of extra comfortable places to sleep and extra bedding. All of the kids, including the teenagers, were comfortable. There was even a portable crib for my 3 month old daughter. The hot tub was HOT and we absolutely loved sitting in it and watching the stars. The mountains seemed close enough to touch. The owner was very friendly and if it had been warmer, we would have enjoyed the kayaks he offered us. We walked down to the lake and skipped rocks while we watched the fog roll in instead. The home was equipped with everything you need, including a kitchen full of amenities in the fridge and cupboards and complete with all we needed to cook some good hot meals. Seward was about 30 minutes away, with a full grocery store and hardware store and there is a smaller grocery store just minutes away. We will definitely be returning, this time we will be certain to plan a longer stay.

Great family vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this chalet and the adjoining chalet (owned by the same owners) for a family vacation with my extended family (ages 2 to 82). It was perfect! The house was beautiful, clean, well-maintained, and well-stocked. Had everything we needed. The view was fabulous - even better than the photos online. I hope we get to come back here again to spend some time again some day.
