Photos and Description of the South Thomaston vacation farmhouse rental 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, 1.5 bathrooms, outdoor shower

The original farmhouse at Seaside Farm, a working sheep farm until 2006, sits on the highest point of the 40-acre parcel. A century of grazing keeps the pasturelands low and emerald green, and ruins of fieldstone foundations sit among granite outcroppings, adding to the mystery of this historic farm. Hills roll down to the ocean and 2000 feet of private granite coastline, including a pebble beach. There are panoramic views of the Mussel Ridge Islands, and, to the north,10 acres of dense spruce woods with narrow paths made for exploring and adventure. The fully furnished house has two spacious bedrooms, one with a with queen bed, the other with a a double, and two 'sleeping alcoves' on the second floor, each with a single bed. The bedrooms have comfortable mattresses, luxury linens, down comforters, towels, and hand-made quilts. There are one and a half baths and an outdoor shower, dining room, living room, large kitchen, and a picnic table at the water's edge.

Perfect Location with Hosts to Match

EOK Baton Rouge, LA, USA
Review Submitted: November 2, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
A longtime visitor to Maine, I had definite ideas about what I wanted in a rental property, and this exceeded it on every point. Turning in to Split Rock Cove, one is embraced by a lovely meadow and stands of birch and fir trees. The farm house and its nearby red barn welcomes you from a perch atop a knoll overlooking both meadows and ocean. The house itself is charming and clean, a restful retreat filled with sea breezes and wonderful light. It is tastefully and comfortably equipped with good linens, new mattresses and everything one needs in the kitchen. All of this is capped off by access to the ocean - the lovely, private beach is a short stroll from the house. What made my visit truly special, however, was the sincere concern of the gracious hosts who were never intrusive but went well beyond what would ever be expected to ensure that my visit was pleasant. I cannot recommend this house too highly and plan to return whenever possible.

Summer 2008

Well located to the Rockland area, this rustic old Maine farmhouse is well situated on beautiful piece of ocean front property. There is plenty of privacy. The accomodations may not be suitable for everyone; the only full bath is on the second floor and that is not a stand-up shower, but this was to my family more than made up for by the friendly and accomodating owners who went out of their way to make our stay the enjoyable and memorable experience it turned out to be.

Great Two Weeks at Seaside Farm

Barb and Frank Baltimore, MD
Review Submitted: July 15, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Our three-generation family had a wonderful time staying at the farmhouse on Split Rock Cove Road. (The split rock on its own is an amazing sight!)

We arrived during a rainy spell when we couldn't see the ocean from the house. Having imagined a "seaside view", this was an initial disappointment. However, our mood was quickly raised when we met our delightful, generous and accomodating hosts and settled into the comfortable, immaculately clean and well-appointed house.

Then the fog cleared, and from our kitchen window we got a sighting past the meadows and trees of gorgeous ocean and islands. We then explored the grounds and shore line, falling in love with the pebble beach, where we launched kayaks for good paddling around coves and islands. We enjoyed beachcombing for pebbles and beach glass, watching lobstermen picking up their catch, and just relaxing with this lovely oceanside all to ourselves.

Other highpoints of staying at this pleasant rental are: excellent mattresses and pillows with fine linens and attractive, comfy bedding -- on all beds; very high quality kitchen implements (unusual in rentals, we've found), the outdoor shower with luxurious shampoos, plenty of hot water, and privacy provided by blossuming honeysuckle vines; the rolling lawns, attractive landscaping and picturesque barns which create peaceful surroundings as well as great play areas for kids -- perfect for our bocce, frisbee and hide-and-seek; convenient location for Rockland and all midcoast activities as well as nearby farm stand, lobster wharf, and fish market.

We highly recommend Seaside Farm for anyone who wants a bucolic ocean stay in Maine with very comfortable accomodations and very accomodating hosts.

great location!!

artsyone Boston, MA
Review Submitted: January 31, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
This cozy farmhouse is only the beginning. The views and access to this Penobscot Bay's cove is breathtaking. Seaside Farm gave us a starting place for exploring Rockland, Rockport and Camden as well as Tenant's Harbor and Monhegan Island. There is so much to do in this area from hiking, kayaking, swimming in a nearby lake, several beaches - both rocky and sandy, shopping, art museums, restaurants, and the fabulous Maine experience. The house is simple and well equipped. The owners live nearby and are incredibly welcoming.

Gorgeous coastal setting; charming & comfortable

Joyth Harvard, MA
Review Submitted: January 28, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
This is the real Maine -- an old farmhouse surrounded by meadow, pointed firs, and your own private coastline. You may never find a need to venture off the property because it's all here.

The house is a true farmhouse, with comfortable, high-quality furniture. Cooks will find everything they need in the kitchen. There's a master suite downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs, so lots of privacy. The upstairs bath is charming; will remind you of your grandmother's house.

Outdoor shower is delicious. Many spots where you can picnic, cook out, or just sit in a chair and stare at the water.

The hosts are generous and committed to making your stay magical.

Rockland is only 10 minutes away, with the Farnsworth Museum, a number of local and seasonal restaurants, and a range of shops from high-end art galleries to a 5&10.

We visited on a summer weekend when there happened to be a tall ships regatta in Rockland Harbor. For a reasonable price, we chartered a large sailboat (with crew) and sailed among the ships. Amazing!

You will love Seaside Farm.
