CHARLEVOIX HAVEN EASY WALK TO DOWNTOWN AND BEACHES. QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD.

Charlevoix House Rental Photos and Description

5 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps 11 plus two cribs, central A/C

Charlevoix Haven, at 118 E. Upright Street, is two blocks from downtown parks, art fairs, restaurants, etc. Furnished with a cozy mix of antiques, cottage, rustic and wicker for an at-home, up-North feel, Charlevoix Haven has been lovingly remodeled including kitchen and baths. Floor plan offers real privacy for up to 11 guests in 5 private rooms, inviting family fun and relaxation in the rest of the house. The main floor has a bedroom with a double bed, a sleeping porch with bunk beds, a twin bed in the enclosed front porch and a full bath. Upstairs has a charming master bedroom with private balcony and bath, 2 additional bedrooms with queen or king/twin beds and a second full bath. All bedrooms have cable TV/DVD. First floor laundry. Dishwasher. Central air conditioning and the easy walk to both Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix beaches will assure your family of both sunny days and restful nights!

Michigan's 'Golf Coast.' : The Charlevoix Area is at the heart of Michigan's 'Golf Coast.' Belvedere, Dunmaglas, Charlevoix Country Club, and Antrim Dells are all within 15 minutes. Multiple courses at A-Ga-MIng at Torch Lake and Boyne Mountain, along with the Golf Magazine Siver Medal courses at Bay Harbor and Shanty Creek are all with a half-hour drive. In mid-summer, Mother Nature offers nearly 18 hours of daylight, and Charlevoix Haven offers non-golfing spouses easy access to the shopping, dining and beaches of Charlevoix right out the front door. The 2-car attached garage has plenty of storage for your golf bags and other 'toys'.

Day Trips from Charlevoix. : Charlevoix is an easy day trip from delightful destinations ranging from the orchards and vineyards of the Leelenau and Mission Peninsulas, to a ferry trip from Charlevoix to historic Beaver Island, to the 'tunnel of trees' drive along the coast north of Harbor Springs, to the automobile-free streets of Mackinac Island, But you still may not be able to pass all the delightful resort towns, antique shops, galleries and fudge shops along the way. If your tastes run to the more active, you can choose canoe/kayak trips on the crystal-clear Jordan River, hikes at Fisherman's Island State Park, or the non-motorized paved bike trail to Bay Harbor and beyond. Your day trip options are limited only by your will-power to leave the charms of Charlevoix itself!

East Park, Charlevoix's crown jewel in downtown, has undergone a $12 million renovation, with new marina promenade, performance venue, interactive fountain, and trout habitat. This major community focal point is only three blocks from Charlevoix Haven, and will be the center of activities in Charlevoix throughout the year.

Kathy and Rick Ballard grew up with 'weekends at the lake' in their family DNA. In Indiana in the 1950s and 60s, going 'Up North' meant going with their parents to a small lake near Warsaw, Indiana, where they met as children and played together on weekends. Kathy and Rick live in East Lansing, Michigan, and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2009.

Kathy Ballard purchased this house in 2003

Once they moved to Michigan in 1980, going 'Up North' took on a whole new meaning. In the mid-1990s Kathy and Rick investigated every possible summer destination in the Northern Lower Peninsula and eventually settled on an in-town location in Charlevoix as a base for active weekends involving incredible scenic beauty, sailing, beaches, fly fishing, great restaurants, art fairs and day trips. Their choice of Charlevoix was affirmed by Midwest Living Magazine in 2008, which named Charlevoix #2 out of the midwest's 100 top weekend destinations. (Kathy and Rick have been to the town they called #1, and they prefer Charlevoix--if you want to know which town was #1, give them a call, and they'll tell you why Charlevoix is better!)

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I spent the week with our daughter and her family in this home. It is the most well equipped and pleasant home in which we have ever stayed when scheduled on VRBO. We would strongly recommend this delightful home. A wonderful home away from home! Description and pictures on this post are an accurate protrayal of the home.
