If you are looking for a private, relaxing vacation getaway, Xcalak could be the place for you. Located on the southern most tip of the Costa Maya, Xcalak is in the last undeveloped area of the Yucatan Coast. Whether you are interested in World Class Diving on the nearby Chinchorro Banks (Banco Chinchorro), bonefishing on the flats of Chetumal Bay, great snorkeling right in front of our beach or just relaxing and enjoying the varied wildlife.... the area offers a nature lovers delight. Casa Caracola is located on the Mexican Caribbean 7.8 kilometers north of Xcalak on the Costa Maya. It has an upper one bedroom suite with its' own fully equipped kitchen, beautifully tiled bath and living room with TV . There are 2 futons that allow extra sleeping. The upper unit dining room has a thatched roof which opens on to a beautiful terrace. There is also a beachfront thatched dining palapa with a gas BBQ.

The house's environment: Besides being beachfront property, behind the house's garden, there is a lake (laguna) which is great for kayaking and fishing. Theses 'lagunas' are home to many different species both aquatic (bonefish, baby tarpon, ...) and land (birds, small crocodiles, ...).

Further information: The house is located in a marine park. Upon arrival, please stop in at the park office to purchase your entry bracelet. The park office is in Xcalak, south on the beachfront.

Secluded and relaxing

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Caracola. The house is clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The picutures on the web site are accurate. The beach is beautiful and the water an amazing color as viewed from the upstairs deck. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck in the sun and at night to view the stars. The road from Xcalak to the house is pretty rough and takes about 20 minutes for 8km so going to one of the few restaurants is not a quick trip. We ate in that worked well for us. The snorkeling was fun and we only got to take the kayaks out once because of the wind. We had fun scuba diving with XTC. There was an issue of a break-in several houses down one night and a nice neighbor informed us so we were sure to lock the door and accessible window at night. A safe is provided for valuables and we had no problems. Casa Caracola was a great place for us to stay in Xcalak. Thanks Gisele!

We visited in March and the weather was perfect! Gorgeous beach!! Lovely breeze.

It is by a small village so we brought our food in with us. There is a grocery truck that comes by but we missed it every time.

The apartment was lovely. It was clean and vey well maintained. The property is looked after by a nice couple who come in every day and clean. Even the property is maintained every day.

The snorkling is fantastic and so close to shore. The water is nice and shallow by the beach. Great for kids!

We were greeted on arrival and were treated graciously.

If you can live without your hair blower I recommend Casa Caracola.

We would not hesitate to go back.
