BEAUTIFUL, DOG FRIENDLY QUAIL RANCH ON MENDOCINO COAST

Fort Bragg House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)

Quail Ranch is a very private, dog friendly and quiet place for those seeking comfort and serenity but also just minutes from shopping, galleries and restaurants in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Relax on the back deck with a drink while viewing the lake, ocean and mountains. Quail Ranch is paradise!

This is a two bedroom, one and one-half bathroom, single story, beautifully decorated home in western style. There are thick, luxurious mattresses on the 2 queen beds. And there is a also a new, very comfortable sleeper chair in the living room for one person. The interior features Mexican and southwestern decor and furniture, including the oil paintings and other artifacts.

There's a dishwasher, double oven, washer/dryer, woodstove, central heat, HDTV, DVD, CD, Wireless Internet with Cable Modem . There's a 2 car, attached garage, private front courtyard, completely fenced and gated with table, chairs and chiminea. Wide furnished decks wrap around the back and side. The ranch style house sits on 3 acres of woods and gardens with a bubbly creek running through it.

This is a perfect place to bring your well behaved dog since the property is completely enclosed by fences. So you can walk your dog, free of a leash, except in the State Park.

The property borders Mackerricher State Park and Lake Cleone, with a short path leading to the nature trail that winds around the lake and to the ocean beach, just a few minutes away. Quail Ranch is less than a quarter of a mile from Horse rental and boarding stables.

Lake Cleone is stocked with bass and trout and has a launch ramp for small motorless boats, i.e., rowboats, kayaks, canoes and sailboats. River otters may entertain you with their comical water antics and their love for play. Many egrets, blue heron and osprey may be observed while hiking around the beautiful nature trail that winds around the lake and to the ocean.

Mackerricher State Park boasts its pristine, uncrowded, sandy beaches, magnificent cliffs and waves of wildflowers. Shorebirds galore feed along the 10 miles of beach that stretch north of Fort Bragg to 10 Mile River. The boardwalk to Laguna Point will provide an easy walk out to observe the Harbor seals, snoozing on the rocks or feeding in the ocean at the end of the pier. If the time is right, you may also see whales during their migration. Cormorants and Oystercatchers and many other seabirds are plentiful to view.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Dear Nancy

We are grateful we had a chance to share this magical Spot on this miraculous planet, even for a brief time. You have created a wellcoming, comforting space, from your engaging artwork to the enveloping furniture to the lovely grounds.

FOR DOG LOVERS, we recommend Ten Mile Beach up the coast a few miles and Lulu and Toulouse Wineries in Philo. Great wine, fun people and dog friendly.

And for take-out supper, we recommend Piaci in Fort Bragg. Elegant piazzas, delicious Mac and cheese. Also a great place for long walks with dog, plus a visual feast: Mendocino Botanical Gardens south of Fort Bragg. We spent half a day wandering the trails. Enjoy!!

The owner purchased the property in 1995 for her private home. The house and gardens were renovated throughout the years and became known as Quail Ranch since its heavily populated with quail. Several years ago Quail Ranch became a part time vacation rental. The home is kept as it is used by the owner. Personal artifacts, photos, paintings, books, magazines remain in the house for your enjoyment.

Perfect place for relaxing

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Quail Ranch over New Years and had a wonderful time. Nancy is delightful, very helpful but non-intrusive. The home is beautifully decorated in a Santa Fe theme including the owner's paintings which are amazing. Because of the 2 bedrooms with a queen bed in each it is perfect for 2 couples. The home is well equiped for relaxing and for cooking. We brought our hound dog with us who enjoyed the freedom of exploring the fenced grounds, a rare event for her. The trail to the beach is easy walking and the beach has a nice boardwalk with lookouts, tidepools, and great photo ops.
We spent most of our time at the house or on the beach but did go into Fort Bragg for grocery shopping, Safeway & Harvest Market (their local version of Whole Foods), and ate at the Nort Coast Brewing-OK but overpriced & did take-out pizza from Piaci's because we could get a seat (very small), the pizza was excellent.

So warm and inviting

Quail Ranch is a lovely and relaxing place to stay. We visited with our two young children and our dog and we all had a wonderful wonderful time. Nancy is a perfect host and has set up a cozy and completely accommodating home. The trails around Lake Cleone and McKerricher Park are superb. We had many adventures and were so pleased to return to Quail Ranch at the end of the day.

Tranquil Paradise

Pictures did not do Quail Ranch justice. The grounds are unfussy and made to be explored. Great hidden trail to the lake and beach. Enjoyed the multiple outdoor spots for sitting, dining, and viewing the ocean and lake. The home has two spacious rooms adorably decorated in southwestern motifs. This is an artists home so you are treated to fabulous paintings. You walk in the door and are instantly familure. The owner does everything to ensure her guests feel welcome, including a welcoming fire in the wood stove. Our family will definitely be back.

Lovely Property - Great Area

  • 5 of 5
We are two adults and two young children (ages 5 and 6) who came to Fort Bragg for a week. We were attracted to Quail Ranch because it had room to roam for our boys and was close to the ocean. We absolutely loved the house and property; plus, Nancy was a kind, considerate, and unobtrusive host. While the house is beautifully decorated in a Southwestern style, it was kid-friendly. Our children loved the wrap-around deck and were inside/outside the whole week. They had plenty of safe room to roam in the backyard. And, Nancy showed us the delightful trail around Lake Cleone leading right to McKerricher State beach - a beautiful stretch of beach with impressive tide-pooling and a gorgeous coast. If you walk up the beach, you connect to the platform trails to various lookout points and secluded coves, perfect for tide-pooling and beachcombing. We loved being in Fort Bragg - the town is darling, with great shops and restaurants. We've been to Mendocino before many times and enjoyed Fort Bragg much more. Plus, there were lots of activities - the Skunk Train, Botanical Gardens, beaches, hikes, and kayaking. Quail Ranch is a perfect place to enjoy this beautiful area - we hope to return again next year!

The perfect place to stay in Ft. Bragg

  • 5 of 5
A friend and I had the good fortune to stay at this wonderful home for 4 lovely days in Sept. It was welcoming, charming, very comfortable and the proximity to the lake and the ocean was exactly what we were looking for. We walked out to the ocean every morning and then down that gorgeous coastline that goes forever. The house had everything we wanted and was so clean and full of interesting art and books. Beds were great and looking out over the gardens to the ocean every morning was heaven. Don't miss Eggheads for breakfast, Mendo Bistro for dinner, the Purple Rose for Mexican food and great margaritas, the Mendocino Chocolate Co. So many good restaurants. My favorite of all was the Mendo Cafe in Mendocino. Worth the short drive. There are so many fine hikes in the area, I won't recall them all, but Jughead Beach and MacKerricher are highlights. Nancy welcomed us graciously and answered all our questions and of course, Shiloh checked in on us often. If I am fortunate enough to return to this beautiful area, I would want to return to Quail Ranch. I highly recommend it!
