Great Location

My family and I spent a week at this home in Martha's Vineyard. Aside from being an ideal fit for our large group (there were 14 of us), the location was superb with regard to the short trek to Circuit Ave. and "downtown" Oak Bluffs, the tennis courts and, of course, the Inkwell beach. The breeze from the ocean across the park was an added bonus. The wrap-around porch was a dimension which allowed us to engage with fellow vacationers as they walked, jogged, cycled or drove by in their cars.
There were a few glitches: The house was not clean thoroughly. Before we could settle in, we had to clean the refrigerator, stove top, oven, kitchen floor and a few other areas in the home. Also, we had frequent power failures. This happened even though we heeded the posted warning not to use the microwave and dishwasher at the same time. We called the caretaker three times but he never returned our calls (the owner does not live in the area). The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, but they could use some updating. There were ants and a mildew type smell in one of the first floor bedrooms (twin beds) that was bothersome to the occupants of that room. The house was well furnished with enough comfortable couches, chairs, tables, desk, etc. so we were able to carve out our individual spaces for reading, TV watching, games, etc. However, some of the furnishings were soiled, especially the hammock on the porch. The slats fell out of 3 of the porch rocking chairs. It was apparent there had been an attempt to fix them. The house was advertized with 6 1/2 bathrooms, but the 1/2 bath was not operational. An upstairs bathroom door would not close completely so we made an "OCCUPPIED" sign for it.
Overall, the house has lots of character and charm. There were various amenities and personal touches around the house which helped to make it feel like home. The kitchen was well stocked and a great space for our large family gatherings. We never felt cramped. The house seems to be a "work in progress". Hopefully, the owner will continue to make improvements so this house will become the real "gem" that it potentially could be.
