Frye Island Description:
A five-minute ferry ride from Raymond Cape will deliver you to Frye Island, Maine. This island community situated on 1000 acres consists of 450 low density vacation homes. Frye Island offers plenty of activities and amenities for vacationers including 13 public beaches, outdoor pool, marina, children’s playground, tennis and basketball courts, softball/soccer field, store, restaurant, ice cream shop, and a 9 hole golf course. Frye Island is a short 15-minute drive to the nearby towns of Windham and Naples provide plenty of shopping, restaurants, boat rentals, amusements and arcades. Or drive a bit further (45 minutes) to the cities of Portland or Freeport for Oceanside dining or outlet shopping. The roads are unpaved, and the speed limit is 20 mph. Road maps are available. Golf carts are the primary mode of transportation on island.
Public Beaches:
All the town beaches are available to everyone staying on Frye Island. Mostly sandy, they vary in size from intimate to expansive. West-side beaches offer the magnificent view across Lake Sebago to the distant mountains, including Mount Washington, and sunsets. East-side beaches have a more protected shore, face Raymond Cape and the sunrise, and enjoy sunshine until 1-2 pm. At the south end of the Island, 1200' Long Beach offers excellent water-skiing. There is a marina behind Long Beach, and finger slips are available for rent with cottages. There are also tie-ups in the 'canal' area on the west side of the island. Gasoline and boat rentals are available at marinas in Raymond, Windham and South Casco.
Golf:
The Club House for the golf course, is where you check in to play golf. There is a Pro Shop with a fine line of golf supplies and an area to grab a cold drink. While the course has only nine greens, there are two sets of tees (Gold and Silver) that allow an individual to play eighteen holes with a different look on each nine. There is also a set of Red tees for the ladies. Normal USGA rules are used, augmented by a few special course rules. Only soft spikes are allowed on the Frye Island golf course. The course is open to the public.
