This unique, 9000 sq ft home with three stories built in 1896, sits on six private acres, has an elevator, a gorgeous open floor plan, and breathtaking Southern views of the Berkshire Mountains as well as a pasture of horses. The lower level, which also opens up to the same beautiful Southern exposure with views and deck, has a large sweeping bar area with prep kitchen, ping-pong table, piano, pool table, Vintage Tommy pinball machine as well as bright and sunny indoor pool. His and hers changing areas are a fun bonus... several large, double doors open this indoor pool area to the outside and bring fresh air in during warmer months. Seven bedrooms, with six full baths and 3 half-baths make this a property where guests can spread out and enjoy one another without feeling cramped. Bright and sunny, this is a wonderful and unique property for a seasonal rental.

Great Barrington is host to great restaurants, shops, ski resorts, live theatre and dance, art galleries, coffee shops, and museums. There are fishing streams, clean river swimming, and swim ponds close-by. There is horseback riding, summer camps, scenic roads and hiking. Of course the Berkshires are famous for Jacob's pillow Dance festival, Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company, Berkshire Theatre Festival and other music and county fair summer festivals. Its all located within minutes. Ski Butternut is 10 minutes away and ski Catamount is only 5.

This property is located about 2 miles from a Golf Country club, open to the public Winter brings skiing and tubing at Butternut - just five mins. away, and at Ski Catamount, which is just 12 mins. away. There is skiing and cross country skiing at Lake Mansfield - which is also a glorious swim pond, playground and picnic area in summer months - just 5 mins. away.

The house often betrays its age. We had plumbing problems; some of the furnishings are decrepit; and the whirlpool did not work. On the other hand, the pool is marvelous, providing our young people with hours and hours of fun. The area is very nice: typical New England-nice. The woman who cared for the house was lovely and very helpful. On balance, if one does not expect luxurious amenities, we can recommend this property with enthusiasm.
