Calvados offers all the pleasures of Normandy life, there is something for everyone. The rolling acres of farmland, apple orchards and the sea lend itself to the superb quality of the produce of the area.
Cider and Calvados, [experiencing the Trou Normand is a must; a shot of Calvados taken mid-meal to create room for more food] dairy produce, fruits de mer, mussels [with Normandy cream], wild oysters [from Isigny sur mer] and fresh fish are just some of the local specialities to be tasted in this area.
The region is steeped in history. From medieval times, the town of Bayeux is home to the famous 11th century tapestry depicting William the Conqueror’s invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings in 1066. More recently, you can visit the beaches of the Normandy D’ Day landings, including Omaha, Utah and Arromanches. You can also visit the picturesque Flower Coast, including the port of Honfleur and the sandy beaches at Deaville, which are ideal for families.
