This charming cottage rests below a canopy of evergreen trees, situated to overlook a serene lakeside setting. Open living room and kitchen, with the recent addition of a bank of six windows, capture the sparkling blue waters of the lake. An adorable BR offers a comfy queen bed, with its bead board walls adding older charm. An extra full sized futon in the larger living room offers added room for accompanying guests. The lakeside screened porch provides another venue for enjoying the beautiful surroundings, where the soothing calls of loons are to be enjoyed.

A short, winding pathway carries you down to the beachfront, where a picnic area, complete with picnic table, offers a great place to relax or feast at the water’s edge. A dock makes boat access easy, or provides a great place to jump in to the fresh water or cast a reel to catch your evening’s meal. The sandy bottoms of the shoreline provide for excellent swimming in clean, clear water. Toddy Pond itself provides a unique mix of water activities: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, skiing and excellent fishing. Its mix of deep, cool waters, (with depths reaching 122 feet) and warmer coves and inlets house such cool water fish as landlocked salmon and lake trout, while warm water fish such as large and small mouth bass, perch and pickerel abound.

Loon cottage was everything that we could have asked for our first visit to Maine. The cottage is located between the towns of Blue Hill and Ellsworth. Both towns have restaurants if you do not feel like cooking. There is also a great restaurant at the Surry Inn, which is 15 minutes away. It is roughly 45 minutes to Acadia/Bar Harbor. The cottage is clean and cozy with amenties like a microwave, firepit (with firewood and kindle), and gas grill. The lake offers endless opportunites to see wildlife as well swimming and kayaking. The cottage was perfect for two adults. The only (very minor) downside was the lack of a dresser and/or closet to store clothes. There are hooks in the bedroom, so be sure to bring hangers with you if your clothes require hanging.
