as the main organizer of this family trip in July of 08, I was anxious about arranging accomodation to suit all 7 of us. We had to meet the needs of family joining us all the way from Europe with two teenagers and my 79 year old father who hadn't worn shorts in 40 years was going to experience his first tropical vacation. When I searched the net, I came across the name Puamana which I recalled from a stay 30 years ago. The complex has been well maintained and updated over the years. I should say that my correspondence with the owner of the property was so easy, and we truly felt that we were being welcomed to their home. Nonetheless, until we actually opened the front door and I heard all the "wow"s as all 7 of us explored the home, I remained nervous for my Dad and also those who had come a long way to experience their first visit to Hawaii. We were not disappointed. The home is beautiful, plenty of space, so that we could all be together, or as sometimes needed in a large group, we could have our own private space too. My Dad had his own bathroom with shower and the other two family units each had a big bathroom. The home was very nicely decorated, but not in a way that made anyone nervous to move around. We loved the freedom to cook in a large updated and well equipped kitchen, and used the barbecue for most meals. The downstairs lanai was the most used, however the upstairs lanai was popular with the early morning individuals and also at sundown which was really beautiful.
None of us can say enough good things about the beach. It was so close to the unit, and we had a hard time getting kids and Dad out of the water. The wilder the waves, the better, and we were not disappointed. I personally like the calm spells too. Three great pools to choose from. The kids tried them all. We adults mostly enjoyed the beach pool. We did walk into Lahaina several time during our stay. We picked our time though, because there was a bit of traffic to watch out for. I asked my Dad how he would rate his experience, and he immediately replied "excellent - it was a heck of a great place".
All in all, our Puamana experience was great, from the first correspondence to sadly closing the door behind us. Would definitely recommend it to other family and friends.
