The Discovery Beach House has everything you need; 2 King size and 1 Queen size bed, fully equipped kitchen (just like home), wrap around balconies with ocean views, a huge infinity pool and an oversize hot tub. About Evelyn - Homeowner

David & Evelyn are a conservationist couple whose passion for endangered primates led them to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica as naturally as a river seeks the sea. Prior to settling in Costa Rica they had traveled to the remotest rain forests of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Of all the countries they visited the owners adopted Costa Rica to build their dream vacation home, the Discovery Beach House. They completed their Costa Rica vacation villa in 2006 and converted the property into a private nature reserve with the intention of sharing it with like-minded people looking for the ideal Costa Rica beach vacation.

Your hosts have worked with scientists such as gorilla expert Dr. Dian Fossey and orangutan authority Dr. Biruté Galdikas. David produced a documentary, “Orangutans Grasping the Last Branch.” Evelyn is a wildlife photographer whose photos adorn the walls of their vacation rental home.

She’s also the author of the award-winning book, Among the Orangutans, which earned a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly.

Evelyn spoke worldwide on the issue of saving endangered primate and their habitats. She was invited to speak at more than 500 schools where she inspired students with her “Follow Your Dream” theme and her captivating photos and stories.

Some students were motivated to form pen pals partnerships with students in Uganda to help save their dwindling wildlife, other students raised funds to hire anti-poaching patrols to protect mountain gorillas in Rwanda;yet others adopted orphaned orangutans in Borneo by recycling cans and used the proceeds to provide critical veterinary care.

The Discovery Beach House is a reflection of David & Evelyn’s life experiences. Their story is unique and remarkable and they’re happy to share it with you.

This eco-friendly home was built by photographer/conservationists David Root & Evelyn Gallardo. It's decor was inspired by their experiences photographing mountain gorillas in Africa, orangutans in Borneo, and wildlife around the world. They've installed an energy saving system, waste treatment plant, and underground cables to give you unobstructed views of surrounding nature. Wow...what can we say but "Pura Vida!" Coming to your Costa Rican home for our family Christmas vacation was as good as it gets. Your stunning house and staff took care of our every need (plus more) and no detail was overlooked. We did many activities; mangrove fishing, visited Manuel Antonio National Park, did the Canopy Safari, boogie boarded (thanks for providing the boards), and saw 2 big iguanas in a territorial fight! We had Chef Desiree make us an incredible meal the first night here with mouth watering dishes made from local fresh ingredients! Most of all we had time with our family making memories in pure bliss here. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay in paradise! The natural shade, the monkeys who visited daily and the infinity pool were absolutely amazing.

Sabrina was very attentive and your complimentary Welcome Buggy Tour with Don was most informative. Manuela did a great job and she is most skilled with the towel origami. (especially the creation of Diego). Cesar was absolutely exceptional in keeping the outside fresh, tidy and we really appreciated when he came to find us to show us sloths, lizards and monkeys.

Our best meals were here with the attention of Desiree and Juan. We also enjoyed Raphael's. We are sad to be leaving and look forward to returning to Costa Rica in the near future.

Dear Evelyn and David,

Thank you for a wonderful stay at the Discovery Beach House! Both the house and the beach were spectacular. We enjoyed daily visits from the monkeys and Diego. The staff was very friendly and was nice enough to point out monkeys and sloths in the front yard. Our favorite restaurants were Kapi Kapi and Ronny's although there are a lot to choose from. Thanks again and we look forward to returning to Costa Rica soon.

Thank you for a wonderful family vacation!

Highlights of our week included: frequent visits from Diego (dog) and watching him bond with our 3 year old, the beautiful and creative towel origami on our bed each and every day created by Manuela, Sabrina and Juan co-conspiring to find us some coconuts water as a surprise, friendly waves from Juan all day long, monkeys and lizards and birds, visiting the Park and having the beach in the back yard! We also enjoyed the beautiful decor, art, photographs and worldly furnishings in the home, cooking by Desiree!!! Watching our daughter take "Costa Rican naps" each afternoon outside by the pool, mangos, papayas, sweet bananas, watching our daughter swimming in the pool and ocean, watching her play in the sand so creatively, having Sabrina arrange spa treatments, a trip to the park, and lots of helpful touches throughout the week! Locally roasted coffee beans, Quepos farmers market. Exercising on the beach, the beautiful landscaping on the Discovery Beach House gardens.

You have an amazing house. We celebrated our wedding in your house and it was the most beautiful day in our lives. The scenery couldn't be more beautiful and spectacular! So thanks so much for letting us celebrate it in this paradise of a house.

What to say about the staff? They are all really good and nice and made our stay very comfortable. Especially Sabrina who has helped us with so many small details and was assuring that everything went well for us and our guests. Diego (dog) I totally fell in love with him. So to all of you many thanks and Pura Vida!
