Our vacation home, Chalets de Dorado del Mar, is located on a cul-de-sac in the prestigious Dorado del Mar, in Dorado Puerto Rico, elegantly manicured community. This beautiful home has a private back yard with a small pool, 42' HDTV, free WiFi, along many other amenities for your enjoyment. This is a private 2 story, 3 bedroom + den, 2 car garage house which offers 24hr security with gated access. You are a few minutes drive away from the Embassy Suites Dorado Beach Casino and Golf Resort. Dorado is located on the north coast of the island of Puerto Rico just 20-30 minutes from San Juan, Old San Juan, and Plaza las Americas (the largest shopping mall in the Caribbean). Relax and take in the tropical lifestyle and surroundings of this small quiet town. The weather is incredible, the water is pristine, the people are friendly, and the food is delicious.
Dorado Del Mar Golf Club: Dorado Del Mar Golf Club was designed by Chi Chi Rodríguez back in 1998. It's signature hole, #10, is a par 5, 525 yard beauty. Stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and water on 12 of the holes make it a golf-course not to be missed.
The Town: Dorado is a small tourist town in the northern coast of Puerto Rico, 15 miles west of San Juan and is located in the norther region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Toa Alta, east of Vega Alta, and west of Toa Baja. Dorado has various upscale neighborhoods and a small town with a Spanish town square (plaza).
Where to go!: Go to El Morro in Old San Juan to see a six-level fortress (the Caribbean's largest) dating back to the 1500s and incredible views of San Jan Bay. For further 1500s fun, go to La Fortaleza, which was originally built by Charles V to ward off attack by Caribe Indians, but has since been converted into an opulent governor's mansion.
Considered holy by ancient civilizations and rumored to be visited by aliens, El Yunque rainforest is a spectacular aggregation of vegetation and wildlife. The forest is home to 150 fern species, brilliantly colored flowers, and the nearly extinct Puerto Rican parrot. It lies only 45 minutes from San Juan near Luquillo. For nature's magic show, wear your goggles at night and go kayaking in a lagoon beneath a crescent moon to see a dazzling display of bioluminescence. The greenish sparkle is actually the light of thousands of glow-in-the-dark plankton, but to the casual observer dipping a paddle into the deep, it looks like illusory pixie dust.
We purchased this property in 2006 while on vacation and decided to share it with family and friends. Then, immediately had a better idea and decided to share it with all of you. WOW! This is the expression you get when you walk in this private home - you immediately know you are on vacation! But, you will never know unless you open the door. Bienvenidos!
By renting a private property you save money, get larger living space and more amenities. But most important, you get a higher privacy, comfort and much better value than with standard hotels. Oh, by the way, no sharing of your private pool.
"A DELIGHTFUL AND COMFORTABLE VACATION HOME"
"Since we first contacted Mr. Torres, we understood that our accommodation in Dorado was being professionally administered, and all aspect of our staying would be well taken care. In fact, the property manager was at hand every time we needed suggestions and advices for our vacation. The house was well kept, spotless like you would keep your own home. We enjoyed the nearby public Dorado beach and the facilities of the next door Embassy Suite; golf course is part of the property.Downtown Dorado you will find one of the best restaurant of the island, "Ladrillo". A Shopping Center is conveniently located at the exit of the gated property. We hope that this house will be available next time we will travel."

This place is a perfect little get away! Our family had 6 people total, 2 adults, 1 older teen, 2 teens and one little guy and we all had plenty of room. There are Window units in every room for air conditioning and most of the time we had to shut them off because we got cold! My children were all able to sprawl out on all the couches provided all at once. I loved the open feel of the home with all the windows and open floor plan! We grilled outside almost every night (the back yard is the best asset of the home). In the back yard you had lounge chairs for laying under the stars, a "bar" area for drinks by the pool , a large table for evening dinners and a small pool for the kiddos. The pool is small but all 4 children managed to wrestle around in it. The neighbors are nice as long as you don't make alot of noise, the couple next door are retired and do not like parties so if you are coming for new years make plans outside the home like we did to respect the neighborhood.
Walgreens, CVS, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Burger King, Baskin Robin, KFC and Super Max are all next to the security guard shack. Super Max is the local grocery store and is open 24 hours and had everything you need, liquor included! If you get on the 693 you can find Chili's, Krispy Kreme and San Juan Cafe. I recommend all these for some American food and feel. Best restaurant for couples wanting a date night is El Ladrillo which is in central dorado, you would not expect such a fancy establishment in a less than stellar neighborhood but believe it this place is EXCELLENT! BUT make reservations don't just show up or you will be waiting for a table for a while.
San Juan is 20 minuets to the East, Fajardo is 50 and even Ponce is 1 hour 30 min South (best drive ever like being on Hana road in Maui only with mountains and cool houses!
Finally Wilma the property manager is sooooooo cool, kind and will take care of your every need! She was the best person to welcome us in to PR and noticed one of our toilets weren't working and had it fixed within 24 hours. .. She was quite a gem!
Here are some suggestions for "tiny issues" we had: This place could use a dishwasher! With 6 people living in the home for 12 days I did a lot of dishes. . But hey I was in puerto rico so ok no big deal right! The cable would work one day and not the next (same with wifi so if you come to do work good luck! ) I figure it was the cable company issue not the house but still. Beach access.. really you
My family chose Puerto Rico for our annual vacation. We explored the island and enjoyed its beaches. There were seven of us and the house offered enough space for a comfortable feeling. My youngest grandson especially enjoyed the pool in the backyard. The Agosto and Evelise are wonderful and I definitely recommend this private paradise home!
We had a great time. There were four of us and we had room galore. The furnishings were lovely and we were close to everything. Supplies were abundant. I would stay here again. The weather was such a joy. Didn't even mind showers daily as they were short in duration.
The location is great with easy access to numerous restaurants and only a short drive to San Juan! The home itself is nice, very comfortable and has a very at home feel! I would definitely stay there again! The owners are wonderful to work with and the property manager as well! It is in a very safe, gated community on a golf course, which is beautiful! You will love your stay if you chose this home!! :)
I stayed at Chalets #12 with my 3 daughters and wife. We had a great time. The property was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We LOVED the outdoor accomadations and spent many hours outside enjoying the tropical weather.
Our stay in Puerto Rico was magical, in part because of our “base camp” located in Dorado. The house is perfectly situated for day trips to San Juan, Fajardo (Bio bay, scuba diving), Barcelloneta (Premium Outlets), and Orocovis (Zip lines). We found the house to be as described, very clean and very quiet. The kitchen area was small, (only one person could be in it), but the majority of cooking was done on the grill which is situated next to the outside dinner table. Being from the north I was certainly grateful for the window air conditioning units, the noise from them took some getting used to though.
The gated community is both a positive and a hassle. The feeling of security was genuine knowing how hard it was to gain access. Even with the owners alerting the guards, and me providing them with my information (name, address of the house, and the owner’s name) we still found it difficult to gain access.
Walgreens is a 2 minute walk from the house, perfect for snagging the small “at home” comfort items, and for getting any film developed. We ate at Ponderosa the first night, I do not recommend it unless necessary, and Morena the last night, which I highly recommend. I also highly recommend spending at least two days exploring San Juan, taking the pedestrian ferry from Catano is a definite plus. We will definitely return, seven days allows for limited activities and only scratches the surface of discovering Puerto Rico.
