VILLAGE TOWNHOUSE WITH GORGEOUS WATER VIEWS AND DECKS

Stonington House Rental Photos and Description

4 bdrms, 3.5 baths, Sleeps 8 +

Enjoy magnificent water views from this historic townhouse in the heart of Stonington Village. Erected circa 1840, the three-story building has been renovated to fit modern standards. The house feels crisp and new yet retains its original, gracious character, including gorgeous wide plank pine floors and double hung windows. The furnishings are upscale and the beds are luxurious. Completing the package is a charming side yard and two spacious decks overlooking the ocean and Connecticut's last remaining commercial fishing fleet . The owner’s took optimal advantage of the beautiful ocean views and choose an upside-down floor plan (living room, kitchen, and dining room are on the third floor). Every day the living room comes to a standstill when the sun, settling upon the water, fills it with magnificent colors. French doors lead to a fully outfitted deck where dining atop the ocean never fails to please.

This is a detached, three story 'townhouse' with a side yard. It is nestled between other smaller houses, on all but one side, and therefore has wonderful unobstructed views to the ocean. There are two flights of stairs, ten steps each. Keep in mind that they are 1800's 'style' i.e. the rise is a 1/4' steeper. Our experience is that the comfort level has more to do with stamina and physical condition than age. We have an 80 year old couple who love this house, but even a fifteen year old doesn't always like stairs.

What a wonderful time we had in Stonington
Our home away from home was the top two floors of a beautifully restored gracious town home. A beautiful staircase with sparkling planked floors leads you up to the two bedrooms and the next staircase to the living area.
The bedrooms were large and each had a fully equipped bathroom. They each had windows that opened -allowing in lots of wonderfully scented summer sea air. The master even had it's own deck. The top floor had a huge deck with great deck furniture and a view over the Stonington harbour and park. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped. The living room had comfy seats and lots of books and games for our enjoyment. The dining area had a wonderful formal colonial feel - perfect for sitting down to a meal at the end of the day.
And what days we had - strolling the quaint village, enjoying the park, having fun at the beach and attending a local fair. The village has several great restaurants, and we particularly enjoyed the "Skipper's Dock" where we spent an entire afternoon enjoying their fine food , drinks, ambience and good company.
We are looking forward to a return one day.

WOW!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Stonington home during the 4th of July holiday. There were so many things to do & explore in the quaint town of Stonington and the neighboring towns of Mystic and Groton, but it was SO hard to leave the stunning views from the living room and deck behind! We were just as happy hanging out 'at home' feeling the breezes and watching the boats sail by as we were heading out to the ocean or the aquarium. This rental had more than enough room for the 9 of us (4 adults, 3 kids, 1 infant, and 1 chihuahua). There are two bedrooms that share a bathroom on the first floor. One bedroom opens up to a very cute garden. The next floor up has 2 more bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. One of these bedrooms is the master suite, and you may fight over who gets this room if you stay here. This room opens up to its own private deck. The top floor has a gourmet kitchen, a big dining table, a place to hang out (watch tv, etc) and another bathroom. The entire top floor has amazing views of the water and all of the boats. This floor also has a private deck with a grill and nice seating area. We caught the sunset a few times when we had dinner out on the deck… so relaxing. The location of the house is perfect. We were less than a block away from local shopping, coffee, and restaurants. The town's little beach was a short walk and even shorter drive down the road (free parking). We even visited a local vineyard for a wine tasting (1 mile away). When the kids wanted to go to a bigger beach, the RI beaches were only about 20 minutes away (no highway driving required). Mystic seaport and aquarium were about 7 minutes away... and Groton was about 15 minutes away. If you like clean, beautiful, vintage homes with great views.. in cute little towns.. then this is the rental for you.

CENTRAL LOCATION WITH EXCELLENT HARBOR VIEWS

  • 5 of 5
There was plenty of room for our party of 6 adults, 2 kids and a toddler. The upside down style of the house was awesome for gathering on the deck and overlooking the harbor. We appreciated the fenced in yard for the dog and kids, but it was even better to be so close (1-2 blocks) to a very nice playground and a dog walk park. We took advantage of the seafood shop down the corner on multiple nights and loved the scallops. The place is in a "townhome style", but it is actually an old house, so there is a lot of character to the place. We especially liked the wide plank wooden floorboards. One word of caution, the stairs are VERY steep, and our parents had some difficulty navigating, but the handrails are sturdy and we managed. The baby gate at the top of the steps helped with our little one. The window AC units were adequate to keep the place cool when the sea breeze wasn't enough.
We went out daily, whether it was a 10 minute ride to mystic or a 5 minute walk to one of the handful of very good restaurants in the borough of Stonington. Westerly and its beaches were 15-20 minutes away as well. This area was just like cape cod to me without the long drive.

I would absolutely rent this place again, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet place near it all, but not right in it all. Anna Bell the owner was very nice as well.
Just writing this review makes me long to be back sitting on that deck overlooking the harbor. That view was absolutely the highlight of the place.

WE FELT AT HOME

  • 5 of 5
Based on the many positive reviews for 148203 we decided to spend our family reunion in Stonington, CT. 14 hours after leaving Zurich we were at the CT coast which pleased us right away.
However the fully equipped house surprised us very much and after a good nights sleep we felt at home! The set-up is unique with the living room, kitchen and balcony on top of the house where you have a great view to the harbour and playgrounds.
Midweek we had an ac problem which was solved by AnnaBelle and her team immediately and at the same time a cleaning crew cleaned the house.
Withing walking distance from the house we found everything what we were looking for, good restaurants, good shops (the women found a lot of clothes), a nice beach and in nearby Mystic we found many interesting entertainment places.
When we left, all in our party agreed, that we finally found a 5-star vacation home in the USA. Thank you AnnaBelle!

AMAZING AND CHARMING HOUSE IN STONINGTON BOROUGH

  • 5 of 5
We rented this house after seeing it on a bridal blog. My family and I used it as a home base the week my husband and I were married last fall. Because our wedding and reception were also in the Borough, it was the perfect location.

The house has a clean, lived in feel with almost every amenity you could want. The decor is tasteful and warm. The house has been updated but has kept its charm. The views from the upper deck are amazing. the house was in great condition with nice linens, towels, and even great dining room linens.

Anna Belle was such a gracious host. She offered her assistance if we needed anything, and she is so genuine that I wouldn't have hesitated to call her. Even though it was Fall, she went to the trouble of replacing the flowers in the window box at the front of the house, which made us feel special. She also left a lovely gift basket.

The house is wonderful, the host is wonderful, and Stonington is wonderful, which I hesitate to mention for fear that more and more people will discover it. It has been a special place for my husband and I for years, and now is even more special given our wedding.

Many thanks to Anna Belle for the special touches, large and small, that she provided to make us feel special, relaxed, and at home.

VRBO STONINGTON #209483

  • 5 of 5
A perfect location, with all the facilities we needed for our family of four adults and a 4 and a 2 year old. We especially appreciated having air conditioning as the weather was warm and humid. IN addition we enjoyed all the activites available to us for entertaining the little ones: the Carousel at Watch Hill, the Aquarium and Seaport Village at Mystic, and especially the child friendly beach at Stonington and the playground around the corner from our Town House. We also made good use of the toys provided at the house. Must also mention the excellelnt laundry and kitchen facilities. We were totally happy with this wonderful 10 day stay at this Town House in Stonington.

This is a true 'Borough' location. The Townhouse is within walking distance to 6 popular restaurants, as well as the beach, the lighthouse, and Stonington's wonderful shops (not just antiques anymore). In fact, our favorite restaurant (less than 2 blocks away) is one of the most popular in the county. With people traveling 45 minutes to dine there, our only complaint is the long wait for a table. If you haven't visited the Borough you're in for a treat. Nestled on a small peninsula, the village had a thriving fishing industry in the 1800's; hence it boasts many grand old homes. Now, an avid sailing community, and Connecticut’s last surviving fishing village, it has the perfect balance of both year rounders and summer vacationers. Everything one needs is within walking distance; fabulous restaurants, antique stores, and clothing boutiques. The new playground can be viewed from our deck!
