This Is a Wonderful House

This is really a great house, in so many ways.
First, its location is ideal. Cotuit is a small village of Barnstable, close to the bridges, so it is an easy place to reach and getting off the Cape from there is also relatively simple. There isn’t a lot in Cotuit to draw large numbers of tourists, and, from what we could see, a lot of the residents are there year ’round. At the same time, it is close to Route 28, where you will find a Super Stop & Shop, pharmacies, and, of course, Dunkin’ Donuts.
We met several of the neighbors, and they were very friendly. It was easy to strike up a conversation with them at the tennis courts just up the road, or the private beach that is a bit farther away.
The house itself is a post-and-beam structure that is very cozy and comfortable. There are a lot of “nooks and crannies” where people can hang out, which made it ideal for us, since we had a lot of family members there with us. There is a little pond with koi in it in the backyard, a deck that looks out over the pond and the conservation land beyond it, a sun room connecting the garage and the house, and a little sitting room/tv room off the kitchen.
There is also a nice apartment over the garage, which is ideal for guests who might need some privacy, such as couples with small children. The first floor also features a spacious living room and dining room, as well as a bathroom. There are three bedrooms and two baths on the second floor.
Another great feature of the house is that, even though it is in a residential neighborhood, it feels secluded. You can’t see the front of it from the street, and the conservation land in the back provides a feeling of being out in the woods. There are also a number of walking trails that allow you to get exercise without running into a lot of people.
A number of amenities made our stay quite comfortable. We enjoyed the central air conditioning and the fact that bedrooms also had window units. The basement includes a washer and dryer that guests are allowed to use, and there is a computer with Internet access that is also available to guests. Laptops can make a wireless connection to the Internet as well.
Finally, we should mention that the owners are delightful people. They work hard to make your stay as easy as possible. They have written a manual that tells you how to manage the house, and where to find anything you need, from medical attention to lobsters.
Overall, this house is a real bargain.
