Costa Rica is full of tropical experiences from beach to mountain. On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica is a little village at the end of the road called Manzanillo, located in the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge. It's a small traditional town, about 4 hours by car or bus from the capital, that offers prime fishing and ocean adventures as well as all jungle wildlife. This area is relatively undiscovered, uncrowded and therefore much more laid back as compared to the Pacific side. The culture is also distinctly different, being Afro-Caribbean.

Manzanillo is the end of the road on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, near the Panama border. It is a small village, just large enough to have all the basic supplies, and rich in natural beauty. The Coral Reef House, and neighboring Dolphin Lodge, are just beyond the end of the road in the wildlife refuge, a 10-minute walk from the village.

Manzanillo/Gandoca Wildlife Refuge: The Coral Reef house in in the Refuge and is situated on a 30 foot coral rock. Monkeys, sloth, parrots, toucan and other wildlife abound and are easily seen form the outdoor veranda. There is excellent snorkeling in coral tide pools right in front of the house. The sea breeze, sound of the ocean and cool night air make sleeping a dream. The average day time temps are about 85/ night 70 and the water temp is always 83-86 F.

Activities for the real outdoors person: This is an outdoor paradise. Beside the great snorkeling and diving, hiking in the jungle will present new and unique wildlife experiences. The local guides can educate you and your family to the wanders of the outdoors. Dolphin tours in the area present a magical experience with the rare tucuxi dolphin and playful bottlenose and Atlantic Spotted Dolphins are arranged with the local boat captains. Also, sea kayaking, canopy tours and fishing are popular activities.
