The staff is amazing!
Review Submitted: July 30, 2009
Date of Stay: July 2009
Highlights: Great views, great staff, spacious home, value, location
Lowlights: Sunsets make for HOT dinner dining, needs new bed spreads, smoker friendly home, one noisy AC
We LOVED our recent vacation at Villa Macarena. Most relaxing vacation EVER! I didn't lift a finger the entire week! The staff is really amazing. Silvia's cooking is top notch. Hilario, the "butler", has a great sense of humor and made sure we always had cold beers and margaritas. The maid, Licha, always had a smile and the house stayed very clean.
Most of the rooms have amazing views. We visited in July during the hottest season. Thank goodness the bedrooms are all air-conditioned. The common rooms (dining room and pool table room) are the only two rooms that are not air conditioned. This did make for uncomfortably hot dinners in July, but I can only imagine that it is very comfortable during the rest of the year.
The pool was great and shaded from morning until 1pm. The sun sets on the Bay of Banderas, so the views in the evening from the Villa are breathtaking.
As a previous reviewer mentioned, the Villa has MANY stairs. My mother-in-law took a room on the floor above the kitchen/dining room, and never even ventured to the other 4 floors! It worked well for her, and for the rest of us, as we loved having the extra room to spread out (15 in our party total, 8 adults, and 7 kids ranging from 2-12). Also, some stairs weren't safe for smaller children (no railing). Take this into account before booking.
For the price, there is no better fully staffed house in PV that sleeps this many people. The house is about 20 years old, and even though the bed spreads could be replaced, the home is very clean and pretty well maintained.
The walk to the beach is treachorous with small kids. We were worried about the walk, so we elected to enter through Hotel Lindomar (3 doors down), bought a bebida (refreshment) and didn't take the road down to the beach. The walk to the beach without kids is easy.
They do allow smoking in the Villa. Our room had a smell of smoke the first day, but I think by the end of the week we had either gotten used to it, or the smell had faded somewhat.
My brother-in-law said the air conditioner in his room was noisy and dripped annoyingly throughout the night. Hilario gave him a bucket, but I guess there wasn't much else that could be done. The AC in our room worked great, and I didn't hear this complaint from any of the other people in our party.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking your time to let us know what you thought. We are so pleased to hear feedback from our guests that can help us improve.
Just to make a minor clarification, the villa is not 20 years old it was completely remodeled by New Years 2000!
The air-conditioner unfortunately chose to fail during this time and has since been corrected.
The dining and living space is all open to the terrace and pool area, so air-conditioning is not practical. This was a consideration during remodeling but it was decided the ambiance of the open space was a spectacular feeling. We have multiple ceiling fans in the dining and living area.
We replace bedspreads and recover the fabric furniture often due to the ocean, sun and fun!!
Hope to see you back soon, we will pass along your praise to our wonderful staff. Thank you very much and saludos to you and your guests!
