Photos and Description of the Uvita vacation house rental
2 bedroom/2 bath Casa sleeps 7; 1 bedroom/1 bath Casita sleeps 2.

Casa Miramar is a very private, comfortable Costa Rican getaway located a cool 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean, directly above the Whale's Tail in the Marino Ballena National Park and the thriving town of Uvita. This spacious home sleeps five comfortably in two bedrooms (one with a king bed, the other with a queen and a single), and the living room has a queen-sized sofa bed that can sleep two more. The property also offers a secluded cottage/casita which has one bedroom with a full bed, one bathroom with an outdoor solar shower, a small but well-equipped kitchen, and large veranda with an incredible view. Just a brief walk between the two, both the casa and the casita provide wonderful privacy.

Other than the weekly visit of the gardener and housekeeper (included in rates) you have utter peace to lull away the days in your veranda hammock enjoying the stunning ocean and mountain/valley views, or dip in the inviting pool in sublime privacy. The Bali shade hut is excellent for reading, napping, or gazing at the hypnotic scenery. Casa Miramar is a birdwatcher's paradise and you'll be amazed as large birds catch the draft spirals and soar overhead. Resident hawks, falcons, and toucans perch in nearby trees and you may see a Morpho butterfly skip along the garden flowers. Mornings are filled with birdsong as you enjoy your first cup of coffee and those same birds will serenade you during spectacular sunsets. Though Casa Miramar is not on a 'monkey highway', you will hear the howlers in the distance and occasionally see the white faced monkeys in the area. It's not unusual to encounter sloths and other small animals in the neighborhood.

For those needing technology, Casa Miramar is equipped with wifi and a pay-as-you-go mobile phone. There is a small flat-screen television hooked to the house's library of movies, television series, and music for rare moments spent inside.

Located along the paved Costanera Highway, Uvita is 20km south of the colorful surfer town of Dominical and 16km north of restaurant-filled Ojochal. Casa Miramar is a perfect headquarters for jumping to the Osa Peninsula by sea or by road, and for exploring points north or inland. You'll find that friendly Uvita is a thriving village with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Choose from a variety of sports and sightseeing tours including a 'not to miss' horseback tour through the jungle to a waterfall followed by a gallop along the ocean.

Uvita has both a rustic feel and all the necessary modern conveniences. Still very much a village, you'll find a good variety at the two main grocery stores, a gas station, banks, a medical and dental clinic, a weekly farmers market, and plenty of wifi - all mixed with the sight of locals riding on horseback down the street. There is a wide variety of restaurants in the area, ranging from fabulous gourmet to delicious roadside ceviche. Locals and expats mingle comfortably in a friendly atmosphere that also features tour guide services, unspoiled beaches, and much more.

Casa Miramar's unbeatable views and privacy come thanks to its mountainside setting so it should be noted that like many places in Costa Rica, a 4x4 vehicle is required to navigate an unpaved road that can be steep and twisty at times.

The town of Uvita is located along 'Costa Ballena', on the Pacific Coast south of Quepos and north of Golfito. Playa Uvita is the home of Costa Rica's only marine sanctuary, Ballena Marine National Park. The park is named for the whales that are often sighted close to shore. From Casa Miramar you can see the spit of land that's formed at low tide and composes the perfect outline of a whale's tail. Convenient to Uvita you can easily get to canopy tours, miles of beautiful beaches, river rafting, waterfalls, rain forest, horseback riding along the ocean and so much more - or, just enjoy the awesome ocean/river/mountain view from right where you are - Casa Miramar. Especially notable is the great surfing just minutes away. Also available are nearby language schools for those wanting a bit more from their cultural experience.

Pristine, private and peaceful

This is a lovely alternative to resorts and hotels in a beautiful part of Costa Rica. The house, pool and grounds are all excellent and well-maintained. The bedrooms are in separate parts of the house so are very private if two couples want to share. The road up is a 4X4 challenge...steep and unpaved...but arriving back at Casa Miramar makes it all worth it! We enjoyed every minute.
If you're looking for tourist destination with lots of amenities, this is not the spot. If you're looking for lovely empty beaches, local flavor and wonderful nature and wildlife, you can't do better than this area of Costa Rica. The newly paved road along the coast will increasingly bring development....come now!

We Love Casa Miramar

WE love traveling to Costa Rica and the Southern Zone - Uvita is our favorite, The natural beauty and unspoiled areas of the zone keep us coming back. Casa Mirimar has been our repeated choice for lodging.

The location and views are amazing. Your home is clean and inviting. I just cannot say enough. We have eight year old twins that love the pool and watching the wildlife. The close proximity of the beaches and grocery make Casa Miramar a vacation destination in itself.

WE Love Your Home!

Casa Miramar

we enjoyed this home. One thing couples with kids should know is that the two bedrooms are quite separate and do not adjoin so when you lock up at night you cannot go into the rest of the home without completely unlocking. We have young kids so this was a bit tough. Also water supply was an issue, we were repeatedly asked to conserve water which made us worry we might run out of water, this did not happen but worrying it would was a stressor. View is incredible and privacy and value of this rental are great. House could have used more ceiling fans in kitchen and bath rooms to assist in air circulation. Great animal watching and kids loved the pool too. Owners were helpful and friendly. Road definitely requires 4wd and some courage and guts. Casita has an awesome view and would be great for a couple.

Owner's Response: We're happy that you enjoyed your stay at Casa Miramar and hope to see you again one day.
Regarding the water issue, during the week of your stay, it happened to conincide with a project at the mountain springs to improve water flow We apologize for having to ask you to conserve and the stress it caused, but we were concerned that our extra storage water tanks could run low with a full house. Fortunately the project was successful and completed during your stay and the water issue has been resolved.

Paradise!

My husband and two boys (ages 9 and 6) just spent a week at Casa Miramar, and we can unhesitatingly say that this was our best vacation EVER. The house is just wonderful, situated in a spectacular location overlooking the Pacific. The house and the property are just gorgeous. Beautiful views from every room, clean and spare design, a warm and wonderful swimming pool, and a huge and luxurious bathtub. My favorite amenity was actually the master bathroom's shower, with a fabulous showerhead, where you can open a door and gaze out at the forest and the ocean while you shower. Breathtaking. The location of Miramar was perfect for us. We used the Uvita Information Center, on Sharon and Mac's recommendation, to book all of our tours (zipline, horseback riding, boat swamp tour) and we couldn't have done better. Every day was a new adventure and every afternoon ended back at Miramar, lounging by the pool, watching our boys heavenly play--it was truly perfect. We're already thinking about how we can get back to Miramar, and which of our friends we can convince to go there.

February 2011 in the casita

I really cant say enough good things about this place, just absolutely amazing. The view is fantastic, the Whale's Tail is directly front and center when you look out to the ocean. The view of the stars the first night had my neck sore, I could not look away. Bring the biggest binoculars and the best camcorder you have, I'm so glad i got a new one for this trip. Monkeys in the trees right outside our window every morning - the white face are quiet, but the howlers scared us silly on our second morning! Birds of every description, the hummingbirds loved the flowers next to the casita. A juvenile hawk or falcon sat in a tree 15 feet away for about 30 mins one day, we were mesmerized. Here's a video of a toucan right above the main house, the look on dad's face at the end says everything you need to know about this place, so peaceful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5BrCntqfu8

We had so much fun around Uvita - horeback riding on the beach and a trip to Cano Island to see dolphons and sea trutles and snorkling - fantastic. We missed seeing a whale by one day according to our captain. The Uvita visitor center can set you up with anything you want to do, the people are very nice too. The food was a pleasant surprise, everything fresh and very modern accomodations. Mata Palo beach was great, just the biggest beach with the finest sand I've ever seen. It's quite a drive to Casa Miramar up the mountain from Uvita, about 2 miles and steep, 4 wheel drive is a must. The photos on this page are accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. The owners responded to any question immediately and were a pleasure to meet. I have recommended this spot to everybody I've talked to since returning to cold and snowy Iowa.
