We stayed the first week in October and had a delightful time. The property is tucked away nicely but yet very easy to get to and very close to all the attractions. Very quiet and peaceful, a great place to relax. Everything in the cabin worked well and we found it very clean. Rick was a very gracious host going out of his way to make sure we were comfortable.
Little Switzerland is nicely centrally located to all the major areas we were interested in: Mount Mitchell, Crabby Falls, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, and Ashville was less than an hour away.
The only con was that our AT&T cell service would only work from near Spruce Pine. But the WiFi in the cabin was very strong and reliable, so plenty of Internet.
This place is definitely a do-over!
My wife and I came here for our honeymoon in September 2014, and all of our expectations were exceeded. We were looking for a secluded mountain getaway with a wood burning fire place, and Rick's house was the perfect fit.
The house is wonderfully tucked away to the point where you won't know any neighbors exist unless you go for a walk searching for them. From the house, there is no other home you can see. At night there was only one man-made light in view, and it was on the other side of the valley a good 1-3 miles away. The house is so secluded, there's no need for any blinds or curtains on the mountain view side; there's simply no one to disturb you. The home is live-in ready, clean, well-maintained and beautiful. Waking up to a mountain sunrise and watching the mountain sunset was so beautiful, and the crisp mountain air was super refreshing. The beds and bedding were comfortable, the couch and chairs were comfortable, the fire place was easy to figure out and the Jacuzzi tub was large and relaxing.
Rick is an exceptionally friendly man, he answered all our questions leading up to the day of arrival, and he even came out to the house on our last day to give us a jump because our car battery was dead. I couldn't have asked for more from him.
I have no complaints whatsoever, and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway, looking to get away from society for a bit, or wanting a to stay in a beautiful mountain house. You'll love the house, the view, and working with Rick.
They say "better late than never" (so sorry Rick). The reason I can still write this review, after almost a year, is because every detail about our trip and every detail of Rick's warm and comfortable home makes me smile whenever it comes to mind along with how kind he was. He even shared some of his wonderful organic vegetables with us (thanks Rick). Also, the reason I am so late writing it is that I thought my husband had done the review and he thought I had and we were both horror stuck that neither had!!! Anyway, all that said and done, Rick was always quick to get back to us and answer ALL our questions and we had a lot:) On our arrival day Rick met us at the post office (easy to find) and lead us to The Pinewoods. How much better service could you ask for? From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a great choice!!! We found the home to be warm and cozy with the wonderful fireplace, (yes, we did use it every night even in August) the comfortable furniture and beds, oh and we never needed any airconditioning! Each evening was spent grilling out on the deck, but not before we soothed our tired bones in the refreshing hot tub with a nice glass of wine. After we ate we sat back with a roaring fire going and reminisced about our day then before bed I was off to my nightly soak in the bathroom whirlpool tub. The bathroom is quite large and has a separate shower which suited my husband. We spent most of our days at the house just relaxing with a good book since we had already been to Little Switzerland a number of times over the years and had done most of ALL the many neat things there are to do there, especially up along the Blue Ridge Parkway (really easy access to the Parkway from the house). This trip was to relax, spend time with each other and just enjoy the peace and serenity of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains and Rick's home affords all of that and more. We loved how private and secluded it was yet we were close to every thing we needed (groceries, gas, restaurants, etc.). I can't express any better how enjoyable Rick's home was and what a treasure he is:) We highly recommend this home and we have stayed in many, some of which, let's just suffice to say I was not too enthusiastic about:( You'd WILL NOT be disappointed with this choice!!! Thanks Rick, we think the job you have suits you perfect, you are a great host!!!
You will certainly not have to worry about traffic disturbing your rest.
So first let me start with the fact that we spent 7 months trying to find the perfect getaway for our honeymoon. I found Rick's other listing and contacted him for more information, and after I explained what we were looking for he suggested this cabin instead and answered every question I had, and there were a lot. The day we arrived we were so pleasantly surprised that Little Switzerland was so cute and everyone so wonderful and friendly. As for the cabin, WOW! The pictures on here do it no justice and it was amazing! It was warm and comfy, with the most breathtaking views. Rick was so nice and made sure we had everything we needed and then some! The location is amazing and affords privacy while still being close enough to everything. We saw wild turkeys walking in the backyard and deer and chipmunks playing near the back deck. We watched the sun come up over the mountains and slowly light up the valley and fall trees! Rick, we can't thank you enough for making our honeymoon so amazing and we can't wait to come back!
Rick was an absolute pleasure to deal with. We set up our reservation on short notice and he met us at the Post Office in Little Switzerland to show us the property. The place is literally on the side of the mountain. It is awesome. Rick made sure all of our questions were answered and there was plenty of firewood for our stay. The cabin is clean and well maintained. There was even a starter supply of seasonings and other items so that cooking was a breeze. This cabin overlooks the Blue Ridge Parkway and is only a couple of miles(counting the driveway) from an entrance to the Parkway. We took day trips to Chimney Rock, Grandfather Mountain, and Asheville. My wife even said she would go back and she isn't one to go back to the same place twice.
This place is super secluded and there is no chance you will disturb the neighbors or that they will disturb you. It was an absolute blast burning some wood in the fireplace, grilling on the deck, or relaxing in the hottub. Even saw a few deer on a morning jog down Grassy Mountain Rd. Thank you Rick for your hospitality. Hope to be back.
We had the opportunity to rent this wonderful cabin last week. I can't say enough about the magnificant views from the cabin. Every minute the views were changing so I had to take so many pictures to capture each moment. The cabin was so neat and clean. It was such a wonderful location and we took day trips to surrounding areas such as Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Asheville and Valle Crucis. We also spent much time in LIttle Switzerland at the cafe, general store and the orchard. It was all so amazing. Rick was very responsive to our needs and answered all questions that we had. I would recommend this cabin to anyone that wants to stay in this area. We also hope to visit again someday!
