Bruce and Lisa Westall have worked in the lodging/hospitality business for over 25 years.
They own the Porch House Bed & Breakfast in Granville, Ohio, a small college town
near Columbus. For several years they vacationed in Florida and eventually decided to try their hands at owning a vacation rental property. They were sure they wanted to own a house large enough for a family to enjoy, and they wanted to provide a private pool as well. It was important to them, too, that the property be within a short walk to the beach. All they needed was a Florida community that appealed to them. After an extensive search, they happened upon
Indian Rocks Beach, and said to each other, “This reminds me of our village in Ohio!”
That was nearly ten years ago. Since then they’ve added a second house to their rental
inventory with the same family-friendly features.
Because of their extensive lodging experiences in both Ohio and Florida, Bruce and Lisa have
become experts about the characteristics of a great family vacation. They strive to offer a
clean, welcoming home in a quiet neighborhood that is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, parks, and of course, the beach. They are always available to handle the little glitches that occur in any house, because they want to make sure guests enjoy a problem-free
Bruce or Lisa Westall purchased this house in 2006
Indian Rocks Beach is a great destination for a family, retired couple, or vacationer to enjoy
a pleasant stay. The beach is spectacular, and you will find entrances to it every two blocks
along Gulf Boulevard. Your house is only a block from this main thoroughfare, and along it
you will find great restaurants and shops. Your neighborhood is quiet and residential in nature; everyone waves and speaks in passing, and anyone you meet will offer tips about what to see or where to eat.
Clearwater Beach is just a short drive north on Gulf Blvd. Lots of vacation glitz here: souvenir shops, restaurants, and Pier 60, a beach - centered venue for swimming, entertainment, and
kid-friendly attractions. Or you can head south to St. Johns Pass, a vacationer’s mecca on the inland waterway. More shops, good eats, and fun.
Don’t want to drive? Take the trolley; there’s a stop on Gulf at the end of your street.
Aside from a major supermarket (5 minutes across the bridge) you need not leave the
town at all. Enjoy the beach, relax by the pool, delight in a well-deserved getaway.
You will not be disappointed when you select Indian Rocks Beach as your destination. That is why our guests return year after year.
As soon as you enter the home, you will smile and think to yourself, “Yes, this is Florida.”
Bruce and Lisa have taken great care to decorate the interior with bright, beachy colors and furnishings. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking supplies and utensils. The pool area and deck provide ample seating for leisurely hours in the sun.
If you’re not accustomed to staying in a vacation rental home, you will be
surprised at how spacious and accommodating this house is. There is ample room -- inside and out -- for your family or group to be together or stay apart.
The owners are committed to providing both a clean, welcoming home and also one where
everything works. If something -- an appliance, for example -- is missing or broken, they will try to take care of it within twenty-four hours.
Best of all the home is located within easy walking distance of the beach, shops, restaurants, and parks. There are two city parks that cater to children and a nature preserve with an interesting self-guided boardwalk tour. And they’re all nearby.
Bruce and Lisa hope this becomes your home away from home.
Thank you for such a wonderful place to spend a vacation. The beaches here are picture perfect, the sunsets...breathtaking. This is Florida at its best. We love the little shops, restaurants, taverns and other amenities all along the beach from Clearwater to St. Pete's...so much fun.
Indian Rocks Beach,in all, is such a perfect, peaceful place. We would love to come back sometime.
If you enjoy the beach and a neighbourhood where everyone greets you with a big smile as they are walking their dogs, then this is the place for you. The home is very clean, comfortable and has everything you will need during your stay. The weather turned out to be perfect for the beach on most days and the restaurants such as Crabby's which were only blocks away, were terrific. I am looking forward to being able to come back again some day.
The cottage was very pleasant and welcoming and the backyard oasis was super. We could walk to restaurants and parks. The owners were very accommodating and responsive to all our needs.
Lets start with the area first: I.R.B. is a wonderful area with a more relaxed feel to it, with a lot of good to great restaurants, great beautiful beach walks, centered in between St. Pete's and Clearwater, all accessible by Gulf Trolly for inexpensive fares. The house itself when we arrived was better than the pictures, so be prepared to be pleasantly surprised-the outside grounds are well taken care of, the neighborhood is quiet and clean, the back yard pool area is well kept, as are the services and maintenance. Inside the house the decor is wonderfully vibrant and colorful, and loaded with every appliance that you could possibly need. EASY to keep clean on a day to day, which makes it totally easier on the sad day of departure, beds are comfy, baths are easy to use, house is large enough to "do your own thing" (we didnt spend a lot of time apart; we were having so much fun that every room was acceptable between 6 people). This place took quite a bit of worries OUT of vacationing with so many, and yet we were able to cook some traditional holiday meals, while also having the option of walking to delicious local restos. I even got to rescue a possum by the Kooky Kokonut on my way back from a late nite snack. All in all I'd say we were all happy with the house, area, ease of airport access, transportation. I really would like to thank Bruce and Lisa for their foresight in such an excellent location and a beautiful property. AND for answering every question that I had about anything. This was the first one that I've done (almost) by myself, and they made it clear and easy for me, and we had no glitches or hitches.
The best indication of the happy stay we had is when the kids went back to work on Monday morning talking about what a great time they had and how they missed this place already.
The house was spotless and in great condition. The rooms were spacious and the furniture comfortable, quite conducive to family fun. The kitchen was nicer than it looks in the photographs. The location was fabulous: a quiet, low-density area, with the beach at one end of the block and a nature preserve at the other end of the block. The back yard was private and a great place to sit.
Good places to eat are nearby, but you'll need a car if you want to shop. The owner was reachable and nice to deal with.
The only disappointment was that the solar-heated pool was cold.
I'm already thinking about coming back here.
Wonderful clean and cozy house.
So close to beach, food and stores.
Pool was fun for kids.
Perfect family vacation home.
We rented for the month of February, we loved our stay! We had family & friends come and visit. The house was so well stocked all we had to get was groceries. We loved the wagon to take grandkids to the beach, tons of beach toys, chairs, umbrellas. The house has lots of room to spread out, 2 living rooms. We have great memories! There are lots of restaurants close by our favorite is a new one called Aqua Prime Seafood & Steaks; the best on the beach. Guppy's is good but hard to get in. Slyce Pizza is the best we've had, dine in or take out its wonderful. The house was incredibly clean when we got there. I would recommend this place if you want to be close to the beach.
Indian Rocks Beach is a tranquil, family-oriented vacation community on one of the world's safest beaches. Parks, a library, and a variety of leisure activities and shopping nearby. Historic trolley serves this and neighboring beach communities.
Fantastic beach and inter coastal access -- both are just steps from your door.
