My husband and I spend a month at the beach house every year because we enjoy our stays so much. This property has it all: total privacy, a large beach with sunset views, a heated pool that overlooks the ocean, and all the conveniences of living in a well-equipped oceanfront home. The house sits on a long, quiet street that’s great for walks and bicycle rides. The floor space is perfectly designed, providing two master suites each with its own private bathroom, a great asset when visitors come, plus a loft for kids. It also has a large screened lanai that overlooks the ocean. An extra perk unavailable anywhere else in the world is that Big Pine Key is the home of the extremely charming and tame Key Deer, so Key Deer sightings are unavoidable. The house comes with lots of kayaks, bicycles, and pool and beach paraphernalia. There is a bight across the street which is only 2-3 feet deep and where we like to kayak. A shopping plaza is minutes away and has all the conveniences: grocery store, deli, Chinese restaurant, pizza place, two nail places, a clothing store, two drug stores and even a library. Key West is about thirty miles away, an easy drive with only two stop lights. Mike is a very responsive and gracious owner.
This beach house was the focal point of our vacation this year!! As soon as we pulled up and began to unload our suitcases, we were greeted by key deer! They were so cute with those big brown eyes just watching our every move from no more than 2 feet away. We weren't there 2 minutes before I had the camera out making everyone pose with the deer! About 20 minutes after that, we were sitting in adirondack chairs facing the most beautiful scenery - teal waters, sail boats crossing - relaxing while the breeze was blowing through our hair! This house is right on the water!! Words can't begin to describe the natural beauty that is this habitat!! Each morning we took the kayaks out at the crack of dawn, before the others woke, to get in a little alone time, breathtaking sunrises, and fishing activitiy!! The water is so still early in the day and it makes for an easy paddle in and out. We kayaked on both front side and back side of the house in the reserve as well! One morning we kayaked out a little ways from the house and we could see the Bahia Honda Bridge! I can't believe how centrally located this home is! Each day the key deer greeted us and yearned to be petted and fed some leaves from their natural habitat that they just couldn't reach! One deer even tried to sit in my son's lap to be held while he was relaxing in a chair by the beach! We went to Bahia Honda State Park twice while we were on vacation and it was literally 5 minutes down the road, and it is a really nice place for snorkelling and swimming and sunbathing, and the giftshop is really nice too, and we saw 2 or 3 big lizards in the wild at the park. They are like 3 feet long! We walked on the old Bahia Honda Bridge and through a nature trail, and then straight to the swimming to cool off! Their is a general store on the same road as the beach house down by the marina that is great for last minute items or anything you might have forgotten (like tomatoes, toiletries, meat, grocery items) they also have ice cream and snorkel gear and gifts, my friend bought 5 t-shirts there for $2.99 each and they are very nice. The beach house itself is very spacious, it has basically 2 master bedrooms and a loft for the kiddies with a 1/2 bath, 2 balconies (one screened) a nice pool, wireless internet, full kitchen, nice laundry area. You should try No Name Pub for the Pizza, it is fantastic, but I would use a GPS, it is very hard to find!!! We will be coming to this beach house for years to come!! :)
We have visited the Keys now 3 years straight. We decided to try something different this year and rent a home on the water instead of a condo or hotel. After much searching we found Mikes property. We were not dissapointed.
The property is everything he promises and more. We had never felt so relaxed before. It is so peaceful and quiet at the property. The night time sky is unbelievable!
The Key Deer are there to greet you every morning while you relax on the deck with your morning cup of coffee.
We have already booked for our 2010 October vacation!
We just got back from staying in this home from June 13th to June 20th and loved it! My husband has a very busy work life & this was the place to be, peaceful & relaxing. We first get there and was amazed at how friendly the deer were. They were such a joy to have around, after awhile you check to make sure you see certain ones every day. The pool was the best, after long days in the heat, we would come back and just jump right in and sit back and watch the deer & look out into the ocean. The kitchen was well equiped with everything you need, did a couple of nights on the grill and hit some local restaurants that were great. Very comfortable beds! Don't miss Bahai Honda State Park only about 3 miles down the road, whether for snorkling adventure to Looe Key or just swimming. Was voted America's Best. Great fishing on the bridges and we loved how you could take the kayaks across the street and spend some time out in the calm waters. Mike you have a wonderful place and please stay in touch about your place. Thank you so much for a great vacation and opening your home to us.
Our stay were on April 30th thru May 4th, 2009 It was quiet and peace away from everything. We did do kajaking, fishing, see/pet key deers, swimming in pool, bicycling, cook on grill. many things I cannot think of.
We did not do snokeling or rent boat because of wind. We will have to come back again. This place is most definetly one. Overall big pine key is best place than all of keys. This was our 3rd trip to keys.
We have been here with our three children, it was great. Snorkeling just of the shore. Beautiful swimming pool and a lot of key deer around the house.
