Akumal is 60 miles south of Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula, an area commonly known as the Mayan Riviera. It is a sleepy Mexican fishing village that has been discovered, yet still retains its charm. The pace is slow; light years away from the all-inclusive resorts that dominate the area. Akumal is surrounded by beautiful bays, with the finest snorkeling, diving and deep sea fishing. Ancient Mayan ruins are nearby. International cuisine, cosmopolitan shopping and night life is found in Playa del Carmen, a short distance away. When visiting Akumal, the seasoned traveler can have it all!

The villa has a lovely living room, but most guests spend their time relaxing on the large, covered outdoor terrace. From the terrace, there is an uninterrupted view of the mangrove forest, one of Mexico's most precious natural resources, where exotic birds and animals are often heard. The patio wraps around the swimming pool where resort quality lounge chairs are situated for sunbathing by day and star gazing by night.

Just off the living room there is a small terrace, shaded in the morning, making a perfect place to enjoy your first cup of coffee. A separate study, detached from the main living area, provides a cozy retreat for those who might seek a little solitude during their stay. Here you have the privacy to read a good book or take a long nap in air conditioned comfort. The study has a futon for an additional guest.

Enjoyed a lovely week at Esperanza in Feb 2010 with our college age sons & their friends. Excellent location. Great restaurants & beach 5 min away. As beautiful as the photos! Cooked several wonderful meals in the comfortable kitchen. Highly recommended.

There aren't sufficient words to describe your Akumal. Quiet, restful, fun, adventure, comfortable, inviting. Your home is the perfect place to enjoy all the treats and makes it especially hard to leave....Thank you for all you provided!

The quiet, sleepy village of Akumal is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy the sun, ocean - Peace! Esperanza is so homey. I found myself comfortable just being here - no need to be elsewhere. Great day trips included Valladolid (an inland city) where shopping is plentiful. Found a fabulous leather shoe store where they were actually making the shoes in the back room. Had dinner at a wonderful restuarant. Oh, and the ruins - right outside Valladolid is an exquisite, well-kept secret - Ek Balam - few tourists and beautiful Mayan architecture. Tulum was also great. I'll definitely return for a relaxing vacation soon and for a longer time!

Akumal, Mexico is wonderful! The atmosphere here is very cozy and welcoming. Esperanza is conveniently located and has made our stay here even better. Esperanza is perfect in every way...meeting my every need. I enjoyed all the fun activities we did, whether it be snorkeling, lounging by Esperanza's pool, sight-seeing at the Maya ruins, or sun-bathing by the ocean. My stay here will be unforgetable and has created many memories. I hope to come back to Esperanza in the near future.!
