Photos and Description of the Daytona Beach vacation house rental
4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps up to 8

Why stay in a condominium or hotel when you can have your own private beach house with pool and heated spa? This house, owned by author Julie Compton and her husband Rick, is located in Daytona Beach Shores, close enough (5 minutes) to the heart of Daytona to enjoy all of the attractions, yet far enough to escape the crowds. You can walk to the beach, a mere block and a half away, or drive your car right onto the sand if you prefer. A park with a playground, tennis court, and fitness trail is at the end of the street, and a block away on the river side is the perfect spot to watch the sunsets.

The house is close to everything the area has to offer: the beach, the river, a water park, Daytona Beach Pier, Daytona International Speedway, miniature golf, shopping, restaurants, turtle sanctuary, Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, and much more. For those who can't imagine Florida without Disney, the house is only a short drive (60-75 minutes) from Orlando and all of its numerous attractions: Disney World, Universal Studios, Seaworld, etc. The Kennedy Space Center is less than an hour away, and only 25 minutes away is Blue Springs State Park, where you can see the manatees.

The house itself is adorable, bright and clean. It has four bedrooms: three with queen beds, and one with a twin and pop-up trundle (which can be used as two twins, or put together to make a king). The fourth bedroom and second bath is in a separate building, perfect for a bit of extra privacy. The pool has a heated spa* and an outdoor shower - perfect to relax in after a day at the beach.

(*additional charges apply for pool heat, please inquire)

(Please Note: We do NOT advertise the house on Craigslist; if you see the house there, it is an unauthorized listing.)

About Julie Compton

Julie and Rick Compton are native Midwesterners, but since leaving the heartland they've lived in various spots along the East coast. Though for years they traveled to Florida for vacations, it wasn't until Rick accepted a job near Orlando that they became regular beachcombers. After a number of Saturdays at the beach where they bemoaned the drive home and wished they had a place nearer the ocean to call their own, they took the plunge and decided to buy a beach getaway. They bought the beach house in the spring of 2005, and Julie spent several months painting and decorating as the pool was built. The first rental was in the fall of that same year. As an author, Julie spends many days at the house writing, and the whole family uses the house for vacations throughout the year. They hope guests get as much enjoyment from being there as they do!

Why Julie Compton chose Daytona Beach

The house is a short drive from the Daytona International Speedway, for which -- in addition to the wide, soft sandy beaches -- Daytona is famous. It's conveniently located for vacationers who come for the Daytona 500 Race, or for the many bikers who arrive for Bike Week in the spring or Biketoberfest in the fall. Two blocks to the east is the beach; a block to the west is the river, with its magnificent sunsets. A few miles north of the house is the Daytona Pier and Main Street; a few miles south is the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and a turtle sanctuary. The numerous Orlando attractions are close enough for vacationers to visit on day trips. The Comptons chose to buy a house in Daytona because it is one of the closest beaches to their permanent home near Orlando, and they also have many wonderful memories of it from their college days, when they were 'spring breakers' themselves!

I decided to "take the plunge" and the "risk" to rent a home from the VRBO website instead of a condo or having to sit through some silly sales presentation for a vacation membership. I began searching and thinking to myself "this could be a huge scam and it will ruin our vacation"...I was never so glad to be so wrong! I found the "Life's a Beach" profile and all the wonderful pictures that looked so inviting. I corresponded with Julie several times, she was patient, honest and kind. We arrived and were absolutely delighted to find the home to be EXACTLY as described. Julie and Rick even made Easter baskets for the kids and left a nice bottle of wine for us. The house was comfortable, well equipped, clean and secure. Our three kids had selected "their rooms" before we even arrived by the pictures on the website. The pool and spa are wonderful and a welcome site after traveling from Michigan! Julie has thought of everything, great restaurants nearby, a binder with area information and all the comforts of home. I was so happy with every aspect of our vacation, the beach is close by and it is a drive on or walk on, absolutely beautiful! The river is a block to the west and we fished in the Halifax River behind the house several nights, my son caught a 25 pound stingray (we released it without harm) we also caught a ton of flounder, jack and catfish! The sunset was so nice to watch while fishing. We had ice cream at the dairy bar and really enjoyed "The Boondocks" restaurant, fresh fish and a great steak sandwich in a comfortable setting. The meal was awesome and very affordable (about $8 a plate for our family of 5). My two sons played at McElroy Park at the end of the street almost every day. We played basketball, baseball and tennis, they have a super nice running track and playground too. my wife and daughter LOVED the pool and privacy the house offered. I honestly cannot say enough nice things about Julie and Rick and the "Life's a Beach" house. If you are looking for a safe, affordable vacation stay this is it! I will certainly refer my friends and visit again. I can truly say that this experience has renewed my faith in "online" services. If you are looking for a great place with trustworthy people, this is the place and the people. I normally would not take the time to write but I felt compelled to share our positive experience. I truly appreciate Julie and Rick sharing their little piece of "beach heaven" and for being so kind. God bless!

Delightful Beach House

What an absolute delight! This was our second visit and, if possible, even better than our first. The house itself is pure beach house with all the little touches that make it so pleasant. Comfortable beds and a backyard that feels like a true getaway with its pool and spa area add to a great vacation. Everything you'll need is provided--from towels to boogie boards to beach chairs, games, and books. We took a very easy day trip to St. Augustine with a stop at Washington Oak Gardens, ate dinner by the firepit at Jerry's Italian Restaurant and at Webber's Steakhouse, breakfasted at the Cracked Egg. We drove on the beach and visited the Lighthouse at Ponce Inlet. And, of course, we sat by the pool and read and soaked up the sun. We can't wait to come back!

Paradise for a week!

The house was just like in the photos, Julie was reachable when we had questions (before we even arrived) There were 7 of us and we had plenty of room. My 18 yr old daughter and her boyfriend in the pool house, my two younger sons (9 and 12) in the turtle room, my 17 yr old daughter in the pink surfer girl rm and my husband & I in the blue room. The beds were very comfortable! There was plenty of silverware, plates, cups etc...everything you need for your vacation is in this house!
It was great to have the beach chairs, coolers, sand toys, and rafts in the shed. Julie also has books, games and DVDs for her guests to use. We took a day trip to Disney, we also ate at Boondocks- and fed our leftover French fries to the fish. One morning we got bagels from the New York Bagel place that is close by- get there early though- they run out of everything bagels quickly. If you like Ice Cream head to CowLicks for great homemade Ice cream! We went down to the pier and my kids did the 'SlingShot'. We also visited Ponce Inlet- the lighthouse- enjoyed this. The beach was great! My sons loved trying to catch the little fish that swam up with the waves. The pool was amazing- great to cool off in during the day and also the water was warm enough to swim in at night. I know I am kind of all over the place in this review I just want to make sure I tell everyone all the great things!
My whole family had a great time and we hope to stay here again!! I would definitely recommend this house to those going to Daytona Beach!

Welcome to the Beach House!

Submitted: July 28, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
There were six of us, including ourselves, our daughter and three granddaughters (ages 3 to 15), and this beach house was ideal for all of us to spend a week's vacation. There is a separate room with a bathroom off the pool area as well where my husband and I stayed, and then several colorful and inviting bedrooms in the main part of the house where our daughter and grandchildren stayed. The house was exactly as pictured on the Internet, bright and clean and well-maintained; and Julie, the owner, was available if we had any questions.

There was a chilled bottle of wine, I might add, waiting for us upon arrival from our long trip!

The pool is lovely and perfect for an evening swim, or any other time of the day, although the beach is within walking distance and is beautiful, and free of litter, and a wonderful place to enjoy the water and breeze and sun. You also can drive onto the beach and park your car for 5.00.

(For seafood lovers, one of the places recommended by Julie is Boondocks, though you might need your GPS to find it, and might wait a while till seated - but it was well worth it for all of us!)

If you love the beach, and clean and comfortable surroundings that are far more homey than a hotel, then this house may be exactly what you are looking for. All of us highly recommend it!
