LIFE'S A BEACH -PRIVATE BEACH HOUSE W/ POOL & HEATED SPA

Daytona Beach House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps up to 8

Why stay in a condominium or hotel when you can have your own private beach house with pool and heated spa? This house, owned by author Julie Compton and her husband Rick, is located in Daytona Beach Shores, close enough (5 minutes) to the heart of Daytona to enjoy all of the attractions, yet far enough to escape the crowds. You can walk to the beach, a mere block and a half away, or drive your car right onto the sand if you prefer. A park with a playground, tennis court, and fitness trail is at the end of the street, and a block away on the river side is the perfect spot to watch the sunsets.

The house is close to everything the area has to offer: the beach, the river, a water park, Daytona Beach Pier, Daytona International Speedway, miniature golf, shopping, restaurants, turtle sanctuary, Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, and much more. For those who can't imagine Florida without Disney, the house is only a short drive (60-75 minutes) from Orlando and all of its numerous attractions: Disney World, Universal Studios, Seaworld, etc. The Kennedy Space Center is less than an hour away, and only 25 minutes away is Blue Springs State Park, where you can see the manatees.

The house itself is adorable, bright and clean. It has four bedrooms: three with queen beds, and one with a twin and pop-up trundle (which can be used as two twins, or put together to make a king). The fourth bedroom and second bath is in a separate building, perfect for a bit of extra privacy. The pool has a heated spa* and an outdoor shower - perfect to relax in after a day at the beach.

(*additional charges apply for pool heat, please inquire)

(Please Note: We do NOT advertise the house on Craigslist; if you see the house there, it is an unauthorized listing.)

Julie and Rick Compton are native Midwesterners, but since leaving the heartland they've lived in various spots along the East coast. Though for years they traveled to Florida for vacations, it wasn't until Rick accepted a job near Orlando that they became regular beachcombers. After a number of Saturdays at the beach where they bemoaned the drive home and wished they had a place nearer the ocean to call their own, they took the plunge and decided to buy a beach getaway. They bought the beach house in the spring of 2005, and Julie spent several months painting and decorating as the pool was built. The first rental was in the fall of that same year. As an author, Julie spends many days at the house writing, and the whole family uses the house for vacations throughout the year. They hope guests get as much enjoyment from being there as they do!

Julie Compton purchased this house in 2005

The house is a short drive from the Daytona International Speedway, for which -- in addition to the wide, soft sandy beaches -- Daytona is famous. It's conveniently located for vacationers who come for the Daytona 500 Race, or for the many bikers who arrive for Bike Week in the spring or Biketoberfest in the fall. Two blocks to the east is the beach; a block to the west is the river, with its magnificent sunsets. A few miles north of the house is the Daytona Pier and Main Street; a few miles south is the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and a turtle sanctuary. The numerous Orlando attractions are close enough for vacationers to visit on day trips. The Comptons chose to buy a house in Daytona because it is one of the closest beaches to their permanent home near Orlando, and they also have many wonderful memories of it from their college days, when they were 'spring breakers' themselves!

There's nothing like coming home from a day at the beach to your own private spot with pool and spa . . .

Life's a Beach set the bar for all of our next vacations!!

Thank you for making our 1st Ever Family vacation pretty spectacular. You made everything so easy and we had so much fun! The pool and hot tub were a hit with Rilee (9) and Aaron (19) and then with all the pool accessories, they had a blast! We all got some much needed sun and with the deck chairs and overhang, just being out of the wind and the sun pointed right at you, we spent many a morning just sitting there. Of course we took in some of the local establishments like mini golf, the beach, Ponce Inlet lighthouse (yes we did climb it, all 203 stairs), Daytona Raceway, Disneyworld, Florida Carriage Museum, Kennedy Space Center, many of the local stores and yesterday went to the Cape Canaveral Seashore to do some shelling and spotted a humpback whale and some dolphins! Score!! This was our first time renting a house and I was a little nervous but THANK YOU for be so kind and answering all my questions! The house was perfect and easy to get to and everything is so clean and kept up! We even used the pool when it was cold out thanks to the heater, I'm sure our neighbors thought we were crazy people from up north. The welcome package was very much appreciated and the wine delightful and enjoyed by Randy and myself. We will be back soon! My apologies for taking so long in getting this review out!

THE PERFECT BEACH HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
Could not have asked for a more perfect beach house! Life's a Beach has EVERYTHING that one needs when on vacation. The house is comfortable, clean and just so "beachy". We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and its surrounding deck. Once my grandboys saw the pool they did not want to leave it! They were totally amused by all the little geckos that scampered all over the yard.

Julie was awesome to work with: answering emails promptly and even supplying drinks and snacks upon our arrival. After a long drive, the cold bottle of white wine was most appreciated!

The house was perfectly located for trips to the beach, restaurants, Ponce Inlet/lighthouse, and shopping. Even took the family over to SeaWorld for a great day trip.

I will certainly recommend Life's a Beach to other family and friends and hopefully return ourselves next summer.

Perfect spot! Comfortable, fun, and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
Our family had THE BEST time at Life's a Beach. What a wonderful spot! Just a block from the beach in a quiet neighborhood, away from the clamor of Downtown Daytona, but close enough to still enjoy the restaurants, bars, putt putt, parks and more. The drive up the A1A is beautiful and the Lighthouse at Ponce Inlet is such a wonderful sight to see. Our whole family fit in the house comfortably. The beds are comfy and all the rooms are a great size. Not to mention, the pool, hot tub and grill are a fantastic bonus. The owners were so accommodating and helpful with all our needs. Definitely recommend Life's a Beach!

A Magical Holiday!

  • 5 of 5
This was a magical holiday. After a long day of travel, we arrived to find a welcome note and a bottle of wine from Julie and Rick, as well as required instructions and a folder filled with recommended restaurants and sights to see. The house was lovely (and very clean!) with its comfy furniture and cheerful colors. We anticipated spending lots of time at the beach until we saw the backyard. We had morning coffee, lunch, and cocktails by the pool, floated on rafts, and relaxed in the hot tub.

With that said, the beach is amazing. One of our first days, we walked the short block to the ocean to see the sunrise and saw several dolphins jumping out of the water and pelicans flying overhead. Soooo peaceful. Be sure to stop at Vittoria's for a morning cappuccino and a delicious sfogliatelle pastry on the way. In the evening, we walked a block in the opposite direction and watched the sun set over the river. Sigh. If you're on the beach during the afternoon and didn’t bring lunch, run across the street to Bruno's for pizza.

We took some great trips to the theme parks in Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center. Closer in the Daytona area, we visited the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and then wet our whistle at the Hidden Treasure Rum Bar. Another night, we enjoyed cocktails and appetizers at Crabby Joe's on the pier. Aunt Catfish’s has an extensive salad bar in addition to some great entrees--we tried the alligator and enjoyed it. Tastes like chicken. ;-) Boondocks also offers waterside dining and a delicious meal, and the outdoor bar at The Shores Resort and Spa is a lovely place to have a drink and watch the waves. For a spectacular breakfast, The Cracked Egg Diner is a must!

The Daytona boardwalk is not as extensive as others I've visited. However, there are a couple of rides, plenty of shops, and the requisite ice cream and salt water taffy places. Joe's Crab Shack is an entertaining place to eat, or have drinks on the upper deck as you watch the sun set.

The Aberrant Art gallery across the river is located on a strip that includes restaurants and a yummy chocolate shop. The owner, Barry Kite, is quite the character and we enjoyed hearing his views on art. I got a chuckle out of his piece entitled "Art Theft." Check it out.

It was truly a wonderful vacation and the best part was having Julie and Rick's lovely house to return to in the evenings after all the excitement of the day. We'll be back.

My 3 year old cried wanting his "pool house back"

My 3 year old cried wanting his "pool house back"
  • 5 of 5
We loved the home and the pool. Plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 kids. My 3 year old finally got over his fear of the pool and swimming on his own. My 2 year old the daredevil was in love with the pool. We only walked to the beach 2 times because they wanted to stay in the pool. Loved the outdoor patio set. We had dinner a few times out there. Nice colorful rocking chairs are at the pool and bright colors. We had everything we needed and more. I would love to come back here! my 3 year old cried yesterday because he wanted his "pool house back." Owners were great, beds comfy, rooms clean. what more could you want?
