Next to Ocean, Puako Beach Condo, a Sunny Beach Paradise!!!

My family and I had a wonderful vacation! The condo was perfect for us, and had everything we needed. We cooked many of our meals at the condo, and loved having the grill. There is a wonderful fish market down HWY 19 to the left, and then left again--we got Ahi caught that morning and cooked it that evening for dinner. The condo had all we needed to cook great meals, and if we needed a quick ingredient we ran next door to the cute little beach store.

We loved the charming little town of Puako, and walked to the tide pools every day. That was our favorite part of the vacation. We saw enormous sea turtles every day. We also saw schools of fish (cute little stiped ones), sea cucumber, hundreds of hermit crabs, regular crabs, sea slugs, and two octopus. It was awesome. At night we kept our windows open so we could hear the tide.

We collected shells and coral from the tide pools. My daughter said, "you know you're at a good beach when the shells you collect stand up and walk away."

There are 2 beaches just up the road--69, and Hapuna. 69 has trees, and shade, and is very relaxing with little birds fluttering about. Hapuna is great to boogie board. We used the boards from the condo (thank you for having them available!) and we also took the snorkel equipment. It was awesome.

We drove into Kona a couple of time, and shopped, ate shave ice, and poked around. It was fun, but I really liked heading back to Puako where it was so quiet and peaceful.

We swam in the pool, and had it to ourselves each time. After a long day at the beach, my kids still wanted to swim, and so my hubby and I relaxed with a book while watching them splash about.

We also loved the fruit hanging right out the back door--mangoes and bananas. My kids searched for geckos all around the place, and took dozens of great photos of geckos and flowers right at the condo.

We will absolutely stay at the condo again. We had a wonderful vacation. The only thing I'll change about our next trip is we'll stay longer. It sure was hard to leave.

We just returned home from our fabulous stay in Puako. The unit is always clean and improvements are made to the decor each year. This year saw a comfy leather couch, adjustable dining table, new headboards in the master and queen bedroom along with new night tables in the master and lamps. Everything we need is here and the neighbor/groundskeeper and owner are all very helpful and easy to work with if there is a repair or problem with anything. The beach across the street is great for snorkeling, beachcombing, whale watching and beautiful sunsets. I actually saw the green flash this year. We also spotted a seahorse in the shallow lagoon across the street. Awesome beaches are just a few miles away along with great food at The Seafood Bar in Kawaihae. We plan to return again and again.

I booked and paid for a two week rental. We stayed one day and found other accommodations!

This condo is NOT "next to the Ocean". It is across the street from houses that are waterfront/next to the ocean. There is no ocean view from the condo. In fact, the condo overlooks a PARKING LOT.

The beach access is NOT 50 meters from the condo and the beach you eventually arrive at is NOT the one pictured in the photographs. The beach by the condo is mostly lava with very little sand.

The balcony is only a couple feet wide in front of the living room, so the only sitting area is off the master bedroom. This part of the balcony is about 5 feet wide, so not wide enough for four people to sit at the table (that is if you want to sit over looking a parking lot).

Frankly, I am amazed at the positive reviews about this property. I've rented approximately 50 properties in North America and Europe and have never had a location so misrepresented. This is the type of place you'd rent while you are in college - when cost is everything and you only want a bed to crash in at the end of the day. If you expect more from a vacation rental, DON'T RENT THIS PROPERTY.
