Relax in the large hot tub looking up at the stars or out to sea. Watch the cruise ships meander up or down the coast while you BBQ dinner. Nestled 5 minutes between Parksville and Qualicum, this very private waterfront property offers wonder filled sunrises and beautiful sunsets and sandy beaches just steps away.
Snorkel the bay, kayak to Parksville or charter a boat and try your luck at fishing its all within easy walking distance. The beach is a mixture of sand (at the foot of the path) gravel and small (up to 6' average) rocks and is lots of fun for sandcastle building and beach combing. Try just lying in the sun while your kids fly a kite at low tide. In short the beach is perfect for all ages. It is a very private and protected area at high tide and the perfect swimming spot in the summer with warm water created as the water flows over the hot sand. The average depth at high tide in the middle of the bay is approximately 4-5 ft with a flat bottom mixture of sand and rocks, great for snorkeling or floating.
The marina directly in view always boasts the opportunity to walk the docks and enjoy the salt air, shop for fresh seafood or ride the ferry to Lasqueti Island. The Creek House Restaurant and Pub are only a few minutes walk along the sandy beach. Morningstar golf course is close by with a Sushi bar and Bakery next door.
The 2000 sq ft Beach House has 3 bedrooms and an observation porch sofa bed(sleeps 2)and a sofa bed in the living room(sleeps 2)so can accommodate up to 11 guests. On the ocean side of the house on the main floor is the master bedroom there are 2 bedrooms upstairs with 1 twin 1 double and 1 queen bed. Next to the master bedroom is the main bath and then full kitchen. The kitchen patio doors open up onto a large covered deck with a 6 person private hot tub, 2 patio tables with chairs and a large gas barbecue and wood fire pit. Just past the deck is an apple orchard often visited by the local deer and bunnies. Next there is a cozy dining room that seats up to eight with a natural gas pedestal stove inserted into a brick chimney facade. Past the dining room is the main entrance and mud/laundry room. The living room which faces the water comfortably seats 8 with entertainment center.
Opening from the living room is the front porch with a breathtaking view of the ocean, coastal mountains and marina and is only surpassed by a short walk to an almost completely private beach. The ideal country beach getaway without leaving the city.
It is possible to walk to Parksville city center along the beach (approximately 3 km.)I have done it many times although good shoes and the right tides are needed before venturing out. Qualicum Beach is about the same distance but the town center is not on the beach and you must cross the creek first if you are to walk there. Qualicum Town center is about 1/2 km inland and boasts live theater, indoor saltwater pool, large market, bakeries and art center.
There are many places to eat within walking distance of The Beach House. Only a short stroll along the beach, the marina offers a waterfront cafe overlooking the boats, perfect for coffee, lunch or dinner . Just past this is a grocery store, pub/restaurant . Directly across the road is a world class Japanese Sushi Restaurant. Beside this is a bakery with a coffee shop with lots of sweets. There is also a seafood store at the main dock where you can purchase fresh prawns, Alaskan smoked cod, fresh oysters, crab and halibut just to name a few of the delightful BBQ treats
Down the road about a five minute walk towards Parksville city center is a bakery and store complex. Five minutes past that is a mall with 2 eateries, supermarket and lots of shops.
The places that I would recommend to see are many and they all depend on your interests and schedule, some quite close like Rathtrevor Provincial Park and the town of Coombs which has the market with the goats on the roof. Also close by is Cameron Lake and McMillan's Cathedral Grove with huge trees that have to be seen to be believed.
There are the Horn Lake Caves with tours that you could take. Summertime swimming in Spider Lake Park or in the river at Top Bridge or Little Qualicum Falls Park all are amazing places and are very close. The West Coast of Vancouver Island Long Beach is breathtaking but involves a full day trip. Closer (across the beach at the Marina) there is a ferry to Lasqueti Island which is also an enjoyable day trip.
We stayed at the Beach House June 20-23, 2014. It was as wonderful as described, but even better! A magical time was had by all. We were a party of 10. 5 adults, 5 children ranging in ages from 17 months to 17 years old. We got together as a family for the first time in years & had not met some of our grand children. I cannot begin to describe just how wonderful this house & all it contained was. The view alone was breathtaking, kitchen fantastic, bedrooms, baths, & all areas of the house were clean, neat & very well kept. The laundry & dishwasher were used every day. The kitchen had enough dinnerware for our army & just about everything possible we could have needed. Kerry & Christyne have added personal touches & tried to imagine everything possible for children & adults to keep themselves busy when not enjoying the beach. The chairs facing the beach in the picture show exactly what you will see. A wonderful spot to watch cruise ships, ferries, boats, etc sail by or just sit with a drink or coffee and contemplate life. The outdoor grill was great, as my son-in-law had caught salmon, & we cooked out in the evenings. The hot tub was extremely relaxing for the adults after a long day. The kayaks (life jackets provided), croquet, table tennis, volley ball, beach buckets & equipment, & all the numerous toys were an extra nice touch & kept even our littlest one entertained. Although there was a large video library, the TV did not come on once. There was so much for us to do & we knew immediately 3 days were not going to be enough. The wildlife coming onto the property was very exciting, especially for the 17 month old. Quallicum beach was a short trip from the house & afforded us a long low tide in the morning to hunt for sand dollars, starfish, shells, & crabs. The market at Coombs with the goats on the roof was fun & the variety of flavors of ice cream available were too numerous to mention. We plan to Visit this house yearly & will be staying for a week or two, if Kerry & Christyne will have us. We wish we hadn't waited this long, unfortunately jobs & being so far away made it difficult until this year. Again I can not say enough about our wonderful visit at this fantastic house. We have become repeat customers for ever!!
The Beach House appealed to everyone in our family from teenager to grandparents with its cozy comfort. The glassed-in porch was our favored place to begin the day, surveying the beautiful expanse of water and the bustling marina over coffee and breakfast, and we ended each evening by the fire on the back lawn. During the day we explored the area with drives to places like Englishman River Falls and Campbell River, or just stayed home enjoying the beachcombing, kayaking, and lawn games.
The location is amazing. The main thoroughfare is literally steps away, yet the house feels secluded and there is no highway noise. Upon our arrival we excitedly made our way down the little path to the beach and were immediately greeted by two bald eagles soaring overhead into the tall evergreens. The small bay seems to be just as attractive to wildlife as it is to the guests; we saw otter, herons, deer and quail. We enjoyed buying seafood from the marina market, and the marina pub serves delicious fish and chips if you don't feel like cooking!
Accommodations were as described/pictured, and all was clean and welcoming. The beds were comfortable and the linens plentiful. The grounds are immaculately maintained and instructions on everything from internet access (via a secure network) to composting/recycling are clearly posted. Our warmly welcoming host was on hand to greet us and was available to answer any questions we had. You can tell that Kerry takes pride in the place and has put some real thought into providing all that one might need at a vacation home, plus some thoughtful surprises, and he is a handy guy with a project or clever system for nearly everything.
Our wish is to return some day to the Beach House for a longer stay!
We had a wonderful week in a lovely home, equipped with everything we needed and a great place just to enjoy each others company. Lots to do - kayaks, table tennis, hot tub etc and the deer and rabbits in the garden each morning were a joy...watching the sun rise & set over the ocean was a treat - even managed to see a shooting star!
This was our second trip in two years to the Beach House on the Bay and, as I had said before in my previous review, it was another wonderful experience. My kids are 15 and 16 (boy and girl) and they had an excellent time (as did I) kayaking, beach-combing with the tides, badminton, volleyball, bocce, ping pong (nice touch with the new ping pong table...), crochet, hot tubbing, and tons of relaxing. it is such an excellent location that you can trek out to Tofino, Long Beach area, the Cathedral Forest, Qualicum Falls, Coombs, Rathtrevor, Mini-golf, and so many of the other areas to explore, or stay at "home" and just chill for the day.
It was also so neat to be sitting in the back patio and watch deer twenty feet from you chomping on apples, not to mention the cottontails and bunnies that we shared the backyard with. There were also ton of herons, bald eagles, a family of quails, and so much other flora and fauna too numerous to mention that we could sit and watch from the house or hot tub.
It is also so close for shopping that we planned our dinners every day by what seafood was fresh at the French Creek Marina or the four close grocery stores in Parksville. There are also a ton of great restaurants in town and area if one chooses to take the night off from cooking.
I can't thank the Pitt's enough for the week (again) as it is one of my and my kid's favourite places to be, and brought us closer together as a family. Thanks for your generous hospitality and we look forward to coming again in the future!

Wonderful, relaxing, comfortable beach house for a great family get-away! There were 5 adults and 4 kids and we had lots of space to play and relax outside and in. Easy to get to and yet secluded because of the beautiful wooded area in between the highway and the house. Hosts were gracious and available to answer any questions before hand and during our stay. The shed is full of fun water toys for the kids and adults and the ping pong table, horse shoe pit and volleyball net were well-used. Watching the tide go in and out was a highlight as well as looking for crabs and starfish. I would definitely rent this again with my family and will tell my friends to check out the "Beach House on the Bay"!
It was only a 1 night stay while in the area on business but worked therapeutic magic for the tired and weary psyche!!! I gave myself a reason to return (left my phone charger behind)!!!!! The house and grounds are immaculate, well appointed and very appealing. Cheers to the owners - very amicable and pleasant to deal with. I will be back as often as I can.
