Ocean Front means on the ocean: This is a true ocean front property with an amazing sandy beach directly in front of your cottage. Do not be fooled by shore line that is rocky, bluffy, or across a road etc. This is a rare sandy beach enclosed by granite points at the end of a verdant field. You can dig for clams, or pluck mussels for your lobster bake directly on the property. The views directly up Somes Sound are astounding. Our Grandparents, Hannah and App Lawrence, purchased this property in 1946, and it has been, and continues to be, in the same family ever since. Due to the geology of Mount Desert Island, there are not many sand beaches. If you have small children, this is ideal. The surf is always mild as it is protected by islands. Additionally, it is on the main route up Somes Sound, so there is a constant parade of yachts and schooners in your view.

Duplex; what this means: There are two properties in one unit. This is a duplex unit. The advantage is that you can open up and combine both sides for a house that has 7 bedrooms, 6 baths, sleeping from 14 - 20 depending on peoples tolerance for fold out sofas. We have made extra efforts to insulate the two sides with dead spaces made by closets, insulation, etc to minimize the sound traveling from one side to the other. We have hardly ever had a complaint. However we want to be clear about this, because we believe in repeat customers. We have also put the porches, entrances and parking in such a way that you will not have to see your neighbor, whether you are related or not!
