This lofty and spacious Hawaiian villa lies on the Gold Coast of Hawaii, the sunniest spot in the state. Aloha Sands is also on the best sandy beach in Puako between the Mauna Kea and Mauni Lani Resorts. Most of Puako has no sandy beach and access to the water is over lava rocks. Because of this natural beach, and sandy bottom swimming lagoon, it is considered the best of the best of Puako by local realtors and rental agents. With 180 degree views of the ocean, bay, the island of Maui plus the Mauna Kea Volcano this exclusive property has it all.

Two outdoor hot showers in private gardens lead from the garden gates to the sandy beach. Your warm lagoon is your swimming pool. Protected and only 2-5 feet deep with a sandy bottom,it is home to green sea turtles and colorful juvenile fish. A few strokes beyond the reef-protected lagoon is the best snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking in Hawaii. In low tide the tidal pools will inspire, and in January through May, the 45 foot humpback whales will thrill. Morning walks along the two-lane Puako Beach Drive will find you at Puako's famous ancient Hawaiian rock carvings, the largest example of Petroglyphs in the world. There is also a Hawaiian grocery store in very short walking distance.

Puako is a very special place on the Gold Coast of Hawaii between The Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani Resorts with many ammenties and choices for a fun-filled relaxing vacation.
We are one of a very few properties on the only stretch of sandy beach in residential Puako. The beach is natural and rustic with a tidal-protected lagoon steps from our lanais with access to one of the best snorkeling and scuba diving on the island. Humback whales cruise our reef in front of our villa from January to April, and green sea turtles are common visitors to our lagoon. Our home is beautifully appointed with imported furniture and art. Our views from every room delight the senses all times of the day and all seasons of the year.
The location was stunning! The grounds were beautiful with the smell of plumeria in the air. You will have the best snorkeling experience on the island...turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels and all species of Hawaiian fish and invertebrates right in your backyard.
It was one of our favorite vacations and we would love to come back again!
Puako is a great location for a big island vacation and Aloha Sands is a wonderful home to spend a week. The house is beautiful, the views are spectacular, and the beach and lagoon are right out the back. We were a group of ten that never felt crowded. We all enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen and used the lanai for coffee in the morning, sun bathing during the day, and cocktails in the evening.
There is a great general store just a couple of hundred yards away that always seemed to have what he had forgot to get at the grocery store.
We had a wonderful week and I am sure we will be back. Thank you Marie and Catherine!
The Seattle Aquarium research crew of four divers just arrived back to Seattle after spending the week at this gorgeous home in Puako, the jewel of the south Kohala coast. We were there to conduct the sixth year of our annual underwater video reef fish surveys centered in Puako. Since 2009 we have stayed in Puako at different rental homes in late January or early February to do this research. In February 2014 we had the opportunity to stay here. What a treat! The house is stunningly beautiful as well as comfortable. It met all our needs and then some. It has spectacular views of the Puako and South Kohala coastline, so for the few daylight hours that we weren’t working we had great views of the humpback whales breaching from the large and comfortable lanai. The house is eye pleasing and well-built will all the amenities. Everything about the house is perfect-from the two outdoor showers to rinse off sand and saltwater to the spacious and comfortable bedrooms, bathrooms, living room and the very well-appointed kitchen. The entire home is of the highest quality. The owner, Marie, and the caretaker, Catherine, were so gracious and helpful whenever we needed it. There is no better place to stay, watch wildlife, hike, swim, snorkel and dive in Hawaii than Puako. And there is no better place to stay in Puako than this home. We will definitely be back! If you have never been to Puako prepare yourself because once you visit you will vow to come again and again.
Thanks so much for the use of your house. Our group had a great time. The lagoon is so full of life, and the sunsets are amazing. It is so relaxing sitting on the lanai and watching the whales. Very close to Hapuna Beach.
House is wonderful. Every amenity that you could need. We had to couples and 2 adult children. Plenty of room to spread out as needed.
Had 2 small problems which were taken care of immediately and with no effort on our part. Marie was very responsive to our needs.
Thanks so much for making it a great vacation.
We stayed here for a week with 4 guys. Did a lot of Kayaking, snorkeling, Golf and Turing around the island. The home is absolutely perfect. It has great views and is right on a very private beach. you can swim, snorkel and paddle right from the house. The place is well stocked for cooking and entertaining. the outdoor showers are perfect. i am definitely coming back.
you have a very special place!!
Mere words are inadequate to describe the magnificence of this home, its furnishings and location. From the moment we opened the door we were taken by the dramatic views, sophisticated yet warm decor and vast array of amenities. The three large suites in the main house were immediately secured by various members of our family as our newly-wedded son and daughter-in-law had already claimed the adorable and very private "Ohana" guest apartment above the two car garage. We were a bit concerned as the Ohana has its own kitchen, dining area, living room and two story deck; our fear being we would not see them again for the rest of the trip! While we enjoyed some of the amazing local and hotel restaurants which were only minutes away, dining at Aloha Sands was an indescribably perfect experience. The kitchen is seriously well appointed, so we made breakfast and a few other meals "at home" as we could not resist eating outdoors under the enormous lanai on the rear patio. Some mornings we just sipped coffee under the Lanai watching the gentle waves sweep along the shoreline, only one hundred or so, unobstructed feet away. Other days we enjoyed sensational local products like Hawaiian Sweetbread French Toast with Macadamian Nut Syrup or dined on fresh fish, Abalone or Maine Lobster (farmed on the Island) in the formal dining room as the surround sound audio system played Over the Rainbow by Iz. During the day we walked along the beach, swam and snorkeled along the reef, watched the sea turtles slowly lumber on the sand then disappear in a flash into the crystal clear water, all just out our backdoor! We hiked to the Petroglyphs, collected shells and golfed at two of the many nearby courses. The ladies even made a trip to a nearby spa for some serious relaxation. Of course, Cocktails were served promptly at 5:00, or was it noon, well somewhere in-between, then an hour on the hammock strung between the palm trees a few feet from the patio stairs. Finally, there was our discussions with the owners, I dealt mostly with Marie. Everything she told us was better than described. They were a pleasure to work with, honest, helpful and concerned. It only took a few minutes on the phone to understand why their home was so beautiful - it was a reflection of their personalities! I honestly don't remember our family ever being closer or as happy as during our ten days at Aloha Shores. I am smiling just writing this review. Marie - Thanks For the Memories!
