Escape to Bryant's Brook, a beautiful, unique cabin that's surrounded by woods and completely secluded from all neighbors but easy to access all year round.
Lovingly built with pegged, hand-hewn barn beams, rough-cut logs and wide-plank floors cut from the surrounding pine-covered mountains, this unique home is both rustic and utterly comfortable. Fully furnished with beautiful local antiques, two woodstoves, and an artesian well, but with a modern kitchen, and digitally monitored central heat, it's the perfect place for a romantic ski trip or escape from the city for a couple, a big family or a group of friends.
The three main bedrooms are up a spiral staircase, but if someone has trouble with stairs there is a sunroom with its own woodstove off the kitchen that can be used as a bedroom. Two bedrooms upstairs have double beds, and the third has two single beds and child's bed. The spacious living room has a woodstove that opens to function as a fireplace, a fieldstone hearth, and a picture window looking onto the pond. The french doors open onto one of the two back sun decks.
Off the kitchen is a spacious covered front porch with a gas grill. There are also two campfires. One is on the bank of Bryant's Brook, which has a great swimming hole for summer. The other is up in the woods, by the stone fence. Both have comfortable seating and a giant boulder to arrange food on if you're cooking over the fire.
Surrounded by protected woods on all sides, the property includes an apple orchard for you to pick apples, an organic garden with vegetables, berries and herbs. There are two ponds connected by a spring that winds between them, and 2.5 acres of landscaped lawn and gardens.
This is kid paradise! There is a toddler bed, pack and play, potty, safety gate, high chair, a sandbox and a tree house... Well-behaved dogs are welcome, there is a dog bed, and dogs can run off leash, we're surrounded by a beautiful old stone wall, woods and a stream.
Please don't smoke inside.
Our home is on its own, we have one neighbor up the hill through the trees. We are about three miles from the picturesque village of Andes, which offers terrific antique shops and boutiques, its own museum, several galleries, outstanding restaurants, and live music.
It's also only 20 minutes from Belleayre ski area, 30 from Plattekill, and 1 hour from Hunter. It's one hour and fifteen minutes from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, 40 minutes from Woodstock and New York City is a 2.5 hour drive.
I'm from Colorado, so I didn't think I'd ever fall in love with the mountains on the East Coast, until we discovered Andes. The area is just beautiful, with steep mountain hiking trails, great fishing and water sports, picturesque towns and irresistible antique shops everywhere. My family loves coming up here all year round, for summer hikes, winter skiing and skating, and just relaxing in the house and the gardens.
Tim Gilman-Sevcik purchased this house in 2007
The house is a dream come true - every time we arrive from the city we're amazed at the beauty of the materials and the craftsmanship that went into creating the house and the gardens. The kids and the dogs love being outside all day, swimming, eating apples, playing in the tree house. It's so close to the city and a world away.
Because we're surrounded by protected forests the house feels very secluded, without being difficult to reach, we have just one neighbor, but you can't even see his house, so it's very private. The gardens are always producing apples, raspberries, tomatoes and pumpkins that practically grow by themselves - there's so much water because of the spring-fed ponds and the brook by the house. It's an entirely unique property, unlike any other you're likely to find, built out of reclaimed barn materials and cleverly reused artifacts, including an old gravestone as a step.
Great place to spend quite time. The outside property is phenomenal! Garden, lots of flowers! Ponds with some small fish, perfect for children!!! Stream behind a fire place. Recommended.
Thank you for an amazing stay! My second time staying at this property and won't be my last!
We arrived on Thanksgiving Eve just before the snow became too bad. The cottage looked amazing at first light. It's a beautifully furnished place. The kitchen area is spacious and great for cooking. It feels remote but is actually not too far from many places including a supermarket and liquor store in Margaretville. The dog loved it of course too.
This was the perfect, private winter getaway, while still located very conveniently off Route 28 in driving distance to the convenient town of Margaretville and the charming hamlets of Andes, Hamden, Roxbury, Bloomville, and Bovina. A great home base to explore the natural, bucolic beauty and new restaurants of Delaware County and located in close proximity to the beautiful walks and hikes in the area. We were 2 with a puppy, but the house is spacious enough for up to 8, including satisfying the needs of children, dogs and adults. The 2 wood burning stoves work wonderfully to keep the whole house warm and the owners were extremely communicative and responsive when we had any questions or concerns. Highly recommend for a couple who wants to relax in the country for a few days or for a family who wants some quality time away from it all.
The cottage at Andes was the perfect location for us to bring our two little boys to meet their Grandmother and family for the first time! (we live in the UK). We were very happy arriving at the Cottage which is no less than idyllic. Both inside and out were very special spaces which we were happy to wile away our days. Paddling in the river, looking for frogs in the pond and rambling around the gardens, our two year old was in heaven! In the evenings, cooking farm bought food on the grill and sitting on the porch watching fireflies was so relaxing. Cooking marshmallows on the fire when dark came was a great way to end the day! .We will be back for sure, I don't hesitate to recommend this house as a great holiday spot!
We spent three nights at this beautiful house and had a great time! My elderly parents were visiting from Europe and it was a great way for them to spend time with their grandchildren in beautiful surroundings. It was cold and snowing while we were there, but the house is so cozy and has very tasteful interior design that we didn't mind at all staying inside for long hours. The fireplace was a hit and owners let you use their firewood as needed, which is great. My children loved the tree house and the creek that runs through the property. We are definitely hoping to come back later in the Spring when the weather gets warmer! All in all, a great experience. The owners are very communicative and always got back to us on email when we had questions. We highly recommend this house.
PS. There is no cell phone reception at the house, but it has wireless internet, which can be accessed from your own computer (no password required).
We are very close to several great ski areas. Plattekill, where kids ski free, Belleayre, the big mountain, as well as Hunter and Wyndham. There's also cross country skiing. In summer, we're right on the edge of Catskills Park, so there are almost unlimited options for hiking, as well as boating and fishing.
