Had several issues as follows:
-A window had 2 BB gun holes.
-Garage was filled w/ trash and had a terrible stench to it.
-Broken beer bottles found outside.
-2 areas where "camp" fires were previously, right next to house...
-Outdoor deck and rug green with mold.
-Cobwebs abundant.
-Moss/ mold on roof & weeds growing in the gutters.
-3 dead plant stalks in front yard.
-Many windows would not operable some screens out.
-Dog feces in backyard.
-Large tree branch hanging that could fall on someone.
-Instructions for hot tub were black w/ mold.
-Numerous siding boards and molding piece stuck out.
-Bathroom floor sticky.
-Vacuum did not work.
-No cleaning products.
-No TV in one room as shown on homeaway.com
-Pull out couch springs/ mattress shot.
-Upstairs entertainment cabinet in disrepair/ chipped.
-Insufficient utensils or glassware for a party of 10+. Many cooking pan/ trays were rusty.
-Bed covers were very old, worn and pilled; one had stuffing coming out.
The beach at a block away is a bit of a walk to small pond (as owner notes), suitable for catch and release fishing (we never caught anything) or small kid play (ie: your typical woodsy pond, don’t expect the ocean). Lake Naomi (the bigger and much cleaner) is a short drive (~3 miles) to get to beach club or pool club area.
Owner was advised of some issues a few days in (they called back next day) but we declined maintenance to come over as the issue was age and upkeep, buying new items etc., they'd be there for a while in midst of our vacation and issues were to numerous...
We later contacted owner (upon arriving home) after tallying the numerous issues and asking for partial return in rent. They appeared thankful for our list of issues and advised if they heard earlier that they would have moved us to another one of their properties with no comment on our well deserved rent rebate request… Upon review (of reviews) of their other property doesn't seem like they would have been improvements, guessing a trend.
While house rentals are not to be held to the same standards of say a hotel... this place needs a lot of TLC and the owners, cleaning/ maintenance company need to take ownership and step up. We were disappointed and certainly would never stay at their properties again. Too bad, because Lake Naomi (along with canoe provided) was a fine place for the family otherwise, the private facilities (+$250/ family $25 pp after) were top notch.
