Mainsail Cottage is a charming well-appointed two level cottage situated right on the shore of Hubbards Cove; the ocean is less than thirty feet from the door. This is a safe place to swim with no dangerous currents or sudden drop offs. The grounds are beautiful, enhanced by the color of many mini gardens, flowering shrubs and fruit trees. Our rental is the entire first level, which is the ground floor. My husband Donnie and I live above. Our guests have two private side entrances, with exclusive use of the front and side lawns and the beach. Donnie and I enter our living area from the rear of the house, we sit outside on our back deck where we can’t be seen from the front of the house, and we swim elsewhere on our large lot, thereby giving our paying guests complete privacy on the side and front lawns to enjoy this amazing property. This is a fully winterized one bedroom, non smoking, self-catering cottage that can sleep five easily. It has a queen-size bed, a double futon with a privacy curtain in the living area, and a single cot that can be set up if required. The open plan kitchen/dining/living area is very spacious with lots of comfortable seating, a dining table that can accommodate six people, and an electric fireplace. It is bright and airy, with four windows, two of which measure almost four feet by five to take advantage of the wonderful view up the cove and straight out to sea. This is a quiet and tranquil place in which to relax. Mainsail Cottage has an ample store of movies, books and games. WiFi broadband is included in the rental fee. We are situated centrally within the village of Hubbards so that it is an easy walk to the mall, to the access for the Rails to Trails, the Pharmasave, the Farmer’s Market, the Trellis Café, the post office and the library, but at the same time, as we are located at the end of a long private lane, we are removed from the bustle and noise of the traffic in this busy seaside community. This is a delightful spot for a pleasant , private and peaceful holiday.
Lots of wild life to enjoy. Off the beaten track, therefore very quiet and private . Close to many other south shore attractions. 50 minutes from the airport, 35 minutes to Halifax, just over an hour to the Martock ski slope in the Annapolis valley. The local 'Rails to Trails' provide a venue to cross country ski or snow shoe. Our property is absolutely beautiful in the winter. It would be a lovely place to spend a romantic Christmas. It's an ideal spot to rest and relax, study, write or work in a quiet and beautiful setting. Sorry we can't accommodate pets.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Mainsail Cottage for a few days. It was truly a wonderful experience. The hosts were charming and thoughtful. The cottage was great..it was an additional treat to discover we did not need our Bodum..it had one already!! It was beautifully maintained and very clean. Honestly it was like a home away from home with everything we could possibly need and then some..and the beach towels were fluffy and wonderful!
The view was spectacular and the water was divine! In the time we were there,we rediscovered the joy of being peaceful and the bliss of morning swims and afternoon kayaking.
Dinner at the Blue Tuna was amazing..I recommend the pan fried haddock..YUM!!
Thank you so much for sharing this treasure with us. We will be back!
I arrived o Friday afternoon to set by the Ocean and read my book . The view is amazing from the lawn chair. The sounds of the ocean waves . When I arrived I was greeted by Carol .Oh what a lovely person . She showed me the cottage and wow the views from the big front windows are just as amazing . The cottage has everything you need except some food you want to cook. The cottage feels very spacious for only 600 sq ft.
On Sat my daughter arrived with 2 of my grand daughters. Well lets just say they loved the cottage, the ocean and the lawn area. The 4yr old told me when we went to be that night,Nannie this was the best day of my life. We found lots of seaglass and a dried little crab. We watched the boats.
I will be going back I hope soon. A very peaceful little get away.
Thanks Carol and Donnie for letting me enjoy a little piece of your wonderful property.
We rented this cottage for an evening for a friends 30th birthday. The hosts were very accommodating and the cottage was equipped with absolutely everything you would possibly need while vacationing. The front yard is situated directly on the ocean and the view is absolutely breathtaking. This was by far the most relaxing afternoon we've had as couples vacationing. The local entertainment at the Shore Club was excellent. If you're looking for a relaxing evening, this is your spot!
My husband and I always plan an anniversary weekend get-away. This year, we did not want to travel far from home; however, we still wanted to feel as though we had. We found the Mainsail Cottage advertisement on Kijiji, and it looked like the perfect place for a weekend escape. We were familiar with the Hubbards region of the province, as we had stayed in the area before and had cycled the beautiful Aspotogan Trail.
When we arrived, Carol met us and showed us around the grounds and cottage interior. The sun was shining on this beautiful October day, and we knew we had made a great choice. The cottage provided everything we needed and was extremely clean and comfortable. Donnie & Carol were wonderful and gracious hosts, making us immediately feel totally relaxed and content. We enjoyed every moment of our stay at the Mainsail Cottage.
The weekend provided the perfect restful place—which we took advantage of—sitting on the deck chairs reading and looking out on the glorious Hubbards Cove. We also made use of the nearby Trans Canada Trail for cycling and running, and the short walk to the fabulous and warmly welcoming Trellis Café. We spent the evening of our 32nd anniversary at the Trellis listening to the regular Thursday night jam session—amazingly talent musicians and singers—and savoring the perfectly cooked haddock dinner.
Though we only stayed at the Mainsail Cottage for three nights, by the end of the weekend we felt as though we were part of the community. We will definitely plan a return visit.
Day excursions along the South Shore, to Peggy's cove, Chester, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Bridgewater are within an hour or less. We are twenty minutes away from the exit to Windsor and the ski hill at Martock, and on to the scenic Annapolis Valley. The Aspotogan Trail and the St. Margaret's Bay Trail originate in Hubbards. These are excellent for all seasonal activities, walking, biking, snow shoeing, or cross country skiing. The Halifax International Airport is about an hour away. The closest access to a main highway is exit 6 of the 103 which is about a mile and a half away.
