Located on the Klamath River, Sandy Bar Ranch is in a fertile valley carved from surrounding mountains by the Klamath River and offers a remote retreat for exploring California's largest remaining wilderness area--the globally significant Klamath/Siskiyou bioregion which contains the Marble Mountain Wilderness, the Trinity Alps and the Siskiyou Wilderness. Sandy Bar is a haven for recreationists, travelers, fishermen, and families. Located right on the Klamath River, we have a great swimming hole and sandy beach. We have a large lawn, ping pong table and a "you pick it" cabin section of organic vegetables in the garden. Our goats and chickens offer great diversions for kids.
The Wild and Scenic Klamath River, and its majestic system of tributary rivers and creeks, flows through the renowned Klamath/Siskiyou mountains. From blue herons to bald eagles, river otter to deer, this wilderness sustains a wide variety of wildlife. Plant lovers will find the greatest diversity of plant species in the continental United States along with over 280 endemic species. Orleans is home of the Orleans Ranger Station which offers guidebooks and maps to abundant hiking, bicycling and other outdoor recreational activities in the area. The mountainous terrain rewards hikers and bicyclists with spectacular scenic views. There are easily accessible hiking opportunities of all levels.
