The kitchen has all the conveniences of home. The living room has comfortable seating, a book shelf full of many wonderful adult and children's books, and a large library of movies. The living room has a gas stove with the wood stove look. The campfire pit out back is located right next to the forest for the feeling of camping out while still enjoying the amenities of home!

Lake Cushman: The lake is a short walk through the forest or 1/4 mile drive. When you get there, you'll find a community park which you are free to use during your stay. The park has a playground, picnic area, horseshoe pits, beach, dock, launch ramp, and beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains. Activities include boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, boardsailing, jet skiing, and just relaxing in the sun. There are also many miles of hiking trails nearby in Camp Cushman, Olympic National Park, and Olympic National Forest. Lake Cushman Golf Course and Tennis Courts are 4 miles away. There is a resort nearby where you can rent boats and water toys.

About Paul & Peggy Gleason

We have lived in Oregon for 15 years. Paul works for the City of Portland and I for a non profit agency in our home in Salem. We are outdoor enthusiasts and love our time spent at The Moose House - whether we're enjoying our boat out on the lake, hiking a nearby trail, or just relaxing inside watching a movie or reading a book. Unfortunately, we live 200 miles from The Moose House, so we aren't able to enjoy it as much as we would like. We are considering retirement there, but until that time, we love to share it with others who enjoy it as much as we do.

Paul & Peggy Gleason purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Paul & Peggy Gleason chose Lake Cushman

We first saw Lake Cushman when Paul was getting certified to scuba dive in the Hood Canal late in November of 1999. I drove up to the Lake to find a place to hike and fell in love with it. A few months later we made a trip up there to look at cabins for sale. We felt it would be a great getaway location for our family as well as a possible retirement community.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked at many cabins, but chose The Moose House because of it's very close proximity to the Lake and Community Park, large and fairly private lot, high vaulted ceilings, big picture windows and the overall feel of home. We have never regretted our decision. The Moose House has been a vacation rental since the year 2000 and has become the most well known and best loved rental in the area. Many of our guests return year after year and think of this cabin as their own home. Our cabin is the perfect home for our large collection of mooses, and children love trying to count them all. This home is lovingly cared for by our nearby managers and always kept very clean and well appointed. Our guests come to our cabin to celebrate many special occasions including honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and one couple even returned to have their wedding there. We've had guests from all over the country and the world, and even a famous movie star! Book your weekend getaway or memorable vacation now and become one of the hundreds of very happy Moose House Alumni!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at the Moose House to have a scrapbook weekend. I was so impressed with how clean it was. We loved all the windows that look directly out to the woods. It feels so serene. The owner is very easy to work with and very friendly. We loved it so much that we are going again next weekend. Another thing that I loved is that it didn't cost us our left arm to rent it and that she doesn't charge a house keeping fee. As long as you clean, clean, clean when leave and leave it how you found it, it is all good! I am so thankful that we found the Moose House, we will definately be using it frequently.

comfortable cabin in beautiful nature

  • 5 of 5

I love to camp, but my husband likes to sleep comfortably in a warm bed at night, so the Moose house was a great compromise with the fire pit and woods being all around us. The house was very clean and comfortable. It was also so nice to have a playground and beach for the lake just a 3 minute walk away to take our little one to. Of course, Olympic National Park is just minutes away, with some beautiful trails, making the location of the Moose house ideal. Peggy was very accommodating and quick to respond to my inquiries. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Best Vacation Experience

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was everything we dreamed of and so much more. The location was perfect for a little get away that my boyfriend and I needed. The cabin was surrounded by the beautiful woods of the Olympic national park and minutes away from the crystal clear lake cushman. I have never experienced anything quite like this and cannot wait to go back for more! Peggy and Paul provided us with everything we needed and they were super nice about everything! They answered all my questions in a timely manner and provided great customer service. I was really satisfied with everything. Their cabin was clean, organized, and gave us a warm cozy feeling. I absolutely loved the place! The winding staircase to the loft was really cool and the loft gave us a fantastic view out into the woods. I also loved all the moose decor, the cabin really stands up to its name.

On the days it poured outside we still managed to have a great time indoors. We also took the 5 minute walk to lake cushman every day, hiked up mt ellinor which is 30 minutes away, explored the town of hoodsport, and had breakfast at the girls cafe which was right down lake cushman road near the entrance. The area has so many fun things to do, it seemed like there wasn't enough time to do it all! My boyfriend and I plan to come back with some friends this summer so we can enjoy the moose house once again and explore the area even more! I have already recommended this place to all my friends and to anyone that wants a relaxing vacation in the woods. Thank you Peggy and Paul for everything. We really appreciate you sharing your beautiful home with us!!

Simply wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Peggy is wonderful. Sent us everything we would need to know and bring a week before our reservation. We felt right at home the moment we walked in. I can see why this is the best cabin to rent on Lake Cushman. The house was clean and "user" friendly. Everything just seem to fit us perfectly. We are avid hikers and everything is so close. It was nice to come home to a warm cabin after a long hike on a rainy day. Even got to wash all our dirty clothes (not have to pack them home with us). The Olympics are right there, Mt. Rose, and Mt. Ellinor too. Great climbs! We will definitely be returning to rent the Moose Cabin. It was also pleasant to read the guest books and get a feel for everyone else's experience as well. Very reasonable rates too. Peggy, the proud owner (as I can see why) was very easy to work with. Did the majority of the transaction online and she was very patient with me.
