2 Bdrms, 1 Bath Cabin in the Woods a Short Walk to the Lake!

Established in 2000, the Moose House has been a welcoming retreat for hundreds of guests. A very comfortable and cutely decorated cabin in a forest setting - fully equipped and ready to move in for your weekend getaway or memorable vacation. Located on Lake Cushman on the Olympic Peninsula and a short distance from the south end of Olympic National Park. Highway 101 and the the beautiful Hood Canal are only 7 miles away where you can also enjoy wonderful sightseeing and saltwater activities.

Cabin in the Woods: With it's natural wood cathedral ceilings, large picture windows and beautiful views of the forest, the Moose House is perfect for summer vacations or quiet winter getaways. The kitchen has all the conveniences of home. The living room has comfortable seating, a book shelf full of many wonderful adult and children's books, and a large library of movies. We also have a basket full of maps, brochures, and information about the area. The large loft is a favorite with children and includes a very comfortable seating area which looks out into the forest. The living room has a gas stove with the wood stove look. The campfire pit out back is located right next to the forest for the feeling of camping out while still enjoying the amenities of home!

Lake Cushman: The lake is a short walk through the forest or 1/4 mile drive. When you get there, you'll find a community park which you are free to use during your stay. The park has a playground, picnic area, horseshoe pits, beach, dock, launch ramp, and beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains. Activities include boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, boardsailing, jet skiing, and just relaxing in the sun. There are also many miles of hiking trails nearby in Camp Cushman, Olympic National Park, and Olympic National Forest. Lake Cushman Golf Course and Tennis Courts are 4 miles away. There is a resort nearby where you can rent boats and water toys.

Other Sights in the Area: Hoodsport and the beautiful Hood Canal , a saltwater fjord, is 7 miles away. There you can sightsee, boat, fish, shell fish, or scuba dive. If you don't have your own boat, there are charter boats available for trips into the Canal. Hoodsport has nice gift shops, a grocery store, gas station, liquor store, restaurants, and a winery. Take a leisurely drive along the canal for some fabulous views and interesting sights. Two casinos are located within a 40 minute drive of the cabin.

About Peggy Gleason

My husband and I have lived in Oregon for 15 years. Paul works for the City of Portland and I for a non profit agency in our home in Salem. We are outdoor enthusiasts and love our time spent at The Moose House - whether we're enjoying our boat out on the lake, hiking a nearby trail, or just relaxing inside watching a movie or reading a book. Unfortunately, we live 200 miles from The Moose House, so we aren't able to enjoy it as much as we would like. We are considering retirement there, but until that time, we love to share it with others who enjoy it as much as we do.

Why Peggy Gleason chose Lake Cushman

We first saw Lake Cushman when Paul was getting certified to scuba dive in the Hood Canal late in November of 1999. I drove up to the Lake to find a place to hike and fell in love with it. A few months later we made a trip up there to look at cabins for sale. We felt it would be a great getaway location for our family as well as a possible retirement community.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked at many cabins, but chose The Moose House because of it's very close proximity to the Lake and Community Park, large and fairly private lot, high vaulted ceilings, big picture windows and the overall feel of home. We have never regretted our decision. The Moose House has been a vacation rental since the year 2000 and has become the most well known and best loved rental in the area. Many of our guests return year after year and think of this cabin as their own home. Our cabin is the perfect home for our large collection of mooses, and children love trying to count them all. This home is lovingly cared for by our nearby managers and always kept very clean and well appointed. Our guests come to our cabin to celebrate many special occasions including honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and one couple even returned to have their wedding there. We've had guests from all over the country and the world, and even a famous movie star!   • Rates are based on 6 people - $15 per extra person per night
  • $10 Fee for Each 3-Day Boat Pass (For Day Use Boat Launch and Dock) $150 Refundable Damage and Cleaning Deposit Required. Deposit is returned after check-out when cabin is found clean and without damage. Due to the fact that we don't have a cleaning fee and try to keep our rental rates affordable, we ask that renters bring their own sheets and bath towels. If renters are flying in and unable to bring sheets and towels, owner can supply them for an additional small fee.

Notes:
Downstairs bedroom is accessible to elderly, but stairway to loft is hard to negotiate. Internet access is dial up with your own laptop computer. We have a 'leave it as clean as you find it' policy. If you do not wish to do your own cleaning, we can arrange that for you when you do your booking. The tennis courts are located at the Lake Cushman Golf Course (a few miles away). Guests enjoy free access to them.

My friends and I stayed at the Moose House to have a scrapbook weekend. I was so impressed with how clean it was. We loved all the windows that look directly out to the woods. It feels so serene. The owner is very easy to work with and very friendly. We loved it so much that we are going again next weekend. Another thing that I loved is that it didn't cost us our left arm to rent it and that she doesn't charge a house keeping fee. As long as you clean, clean, clean when leave and leave it how you found it, it is all good! I am so thankful that we found the Moose House, we will definately be using it frequently.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Took my sister, my niece, and 8 month pregnant daughter there for a girls weekend away, and they are still talking about it! we had a great time watching home movies, making BBQ dinner, cooking smores' outside, walking down to the lake. We are going to make it a yearly event! Thank you Moose House!

My husband and I stayed at the Moose House to celebrate our first wedding anniversay. We loved it and hope to return with friends! Kitchen was well stocked with supplies, comfortable beds and couches, house was close to trails and national parks. Great place to getaway while not being too far from home.

A great week with our grandchildren

Everything was absolutely perfect for a week with our grandchildren. Everything you need is there. The kids (7 and 9) were never bored, even on one cool day where the beach was out of the question. Lots of room to play outside, lots of books for them to read and movies galore. The house is very comfortable and cozy. The "moose" theme was a great thing. We spent days counting how many moose references there were. I throw out the challenge to beat out record of 362. From time of inquiry to time of return the owner was always available to answer questions. Our 7 year old grandson wrote in the guest book -" We HEAD a great time "- and we did
What you see is exactly what you get and that does not always happen when booking online. Thanks Peggy... we loved it.

"Amazing Family Getaway; Quiet, Peaceful, and Clean!!"

Stayed at the Moose House for 3 nights over the kiddo spring break!!! What a wonderful time we had!!! Such a cozy and quiet little place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life!!! The kids absoulty loved the loft and the spiral staircase!!! The walk down to the lake was very easy and once there the lake was a spectacular sight!!! Would highly recommend this cozy little cabin to anyone looking for some nice peace and quiet to recharge!!!
